Question Civ5 activation on steam for mac

I would like to Play Civ 5 with my girlfriend. She got a mac, I have a notebook with win 7. I wanted to buy 2 copys from amazon. There it said its for pc...

I like to know, if I activate it with the key on steam - will it be playable on the mac?

    Thank you for your replys!

Yes it will, but the Mac version will have to be downloaded from Steam first.

Be warned: a Win v. Mac game will only be playable as long as the versions are the same (at the moment it's something like x.xxx.xxx.585 or similar, can't check that at the moment).

As soon as the Windows version is patched, the games will no longer be compatible until the patch has been implemented by Aspyr, who are porting the game for Mac.

To maybe be a bit clearer, you need the PC version for the PC and the Mac version for the Mac. You can't buy the PC version and install it on your Mac. My understanding is that the key you buy with the PC version will only set you up as a PC user when you register with Steam so you can't then download the Mac version from Steam uisngthe PC code.

However, rather than buy from Amazon, just buy what you need from Steam (1 Mac, 1 PC) and save money when the game is on sale.

Sorry, I don't believe this is correct.

Civ 5 is a Steam Play product. (The Steam Play logo is on the product in the Steam Store)
