Help or advice: with Game Booster/Optimisation Apps. for PC.

The basic idea sounds great, you download one of these game booster apps. and it sorts out all of your optimal game and system settings for you.

Questions:
1. Do they actually work, and make a great difference to the game play.
2. Are they safe to use.
3. Can they be fully uninstalled.
4. Which is the best, free, game booster app. for PC.

I have seen a couple of free game booster apps. that seem OK.
I am playing games (currently BioShock 2) on a Windows 7, PC.

If anyone has some experience of free game booster apps. any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated.

I wouldn't trust a single one of them. Too great a risk that they're just Trojans of one sort or another.

You'd be far better off buying a good, reliable Disk Defragmentation utility, as well as a good, reliable Registry Cleanup utility. And then running them on a regular, frequent basis (defragment every week, and clean the registry every month, for example).

And then experimenting yourself with the in-game settings, to find the level that's the best mix of performance and quality for your personal tastes, given the hardware you have to work with.

They are not bad tbh. But there are better game-specific solutions if you want to squeek out some extra fps in your games. Better yet, just upgrade your hardware because those, for the most part, actually yield noticeable improvements.
