Talking Should I build a Monastery?

Most games I find Monasteries to be marginal, however, every so often it's a "no brainer!"

(There's another wine out-of-shot behind the Danish Spearman on the left that will eventually come within Osaka's borders)

The monks are going to be drunk! That is a sweet spot to plop a city. Two iron, two wheat, two rivers and six wine? Did you choose abundant resources, or what?

It's abundant, but I find even that very rarely clusters 4 of one resource within reach of a city, let alone 6!

I've just built the Hermitage in Osaka (and Denmark is no more, they attacked me once too often!)

    Absolute no brainer.

That's the best city I've seen for building a monastery. Production will be low, but you should be able to grow the city to a massive size whilst making lots of money and generating massive culture.

I'd be making a beeline for Hermitage and building that ASAP. Unfortunately, the only negative about that city is it's inability to build the Sydney Opera House.

    It maxed out at 204

Which is way short of what you can achieve with Moai

Repeats don't count. Thus Monasteries will only provide 5 culture at minimum, and 7 should you have both wine and incense available to one city. Maybe 3 if you get your goods stolen through a culture bomb.
