Need iron!!!
So im in a pickle and I need iron really bad. I cant seem to conquer any city without siege units because hey! siege units require iron! None of the other countries have iron listed to trade. I dont know what the hell to do. Any effective ways to capture a city without iron? Im at the point where i just got the one siege ship. not sure what era but its around the musket era.. right after knights and stuff. please help guys. thanks.

Just overpower one with infantery, i rarely build siege units before artillery. Crossbowmen + musketmen should do just fine.

Some options:
a) Build a lot of Musketmen and overwhelm them in numbers
b) Beeline to chemistry for cannons and lay siege to them with those. They don't require iron.
c) Don't conquer the city. Focus on other things like economy, science, culture, and/or diplomacy. Often, the land around you determines what type of game you're best able to play. Use it to your advantage rather than focussing on areas you know you are currently weak in (e.g. lack of iron can equal less capability of conquering cities until the renaissance).
Just some ideas. I'm sure others will have other ideas for you.
Out of interest, which civ are you playing as?

There are always city states that have iron. Ally one, and the iron is all yours.

I like crossbowman but you have to get them early before the city strength gets too high or have 5 of them attacking for a few turns then roll in the Longswordsmen.

Just remove the iron requirement for a catapult that will solve the problem if you don't have iron you're ☺☺☺☺ed
reasoning:
1 historicly uncorrect catapults don't require iron
2 because in gods and king you need siege weapons to atack cities So basicly if you don't have the resource you can't atack someone.
3 Siege units will have a extremely reduced damage against units . So they are even more vulnerable now why should it have a resource?
