Will the story of Vito Scaletta be continued?

So.. I finished Mafia II for the third time today. And i thought, the ending is kinda' stupid. Then,my question is what the hell will happen to Joe? And Vito? I heard many guys saying that Vito's story is over, but that just ain't satisfying enough.I really hope because I loved the Mafia II game, especially because of Vito,Eddie and Joe.There's a lot to be continued about, what will be Scarpa's reaction to Vito's betrayal on Falcone, what will Galante's men do to Joe? Can he get out of that ☺☺☺☺? What will Vito do about that? I have about 3021412 plots in my head, but they just ain't worth mentioning without information of the new Mafia game.I really hope there will be a new chapter of Vito's story!

Think most accept that 2kcz wanted you to believe joe is dead, and vito without joe just wouldn't work so if there is a 3rd game I hope it will be new characters, I didn't like the ending either but bringing joe and vito back would make it worse

Not everything has to be dumbed down and tied up in a neat package. Even though I think the ending was intelligent and inline with the unfolding story, leaving a slight ambiguity keeps the topic (and the game) talked about for years.

I agree though there's nothing dumbed down about the ending to mafia 1, which is very neatly wrapped up, which is why it's so good

I really don't like vague endings in games or films so the ending was never going to work for me, but the fact is am sure i have seen far more negative comments about the ending than positive, am also sure almost everyone would agree the mafia 1 ending is fantastic.

leaving something for the player to think about is ok but it's a fine line between that and "is that it?"

it was the latter for me and not the powerful thought provoking finale I think they were aiming for.

I love Mafia II the way it was. It was something different, it's a story-action drive game with a subtle story and an open-world tag to it that makes you think and feel. Everything that happen in the game (the truth about Henry and Joe's fate) was all true. Just add everything up and even the conversations in the car so it all makes sense to you and see and understand. I understand people prefer spoon-feeding like many television series out there, but there are many other storylines that features the same technique like Mafia II. Mafia II did not follow any other game such as sandbox. Nor did it follow the personal "wants" and "needs" from people asking what it should be and what it shouldn't have been based on their "own" exceptions and feelings instead of caring what they brought and what they paid for.

True, and many of them don't work there are very few films I can think of with endings that require some thought from the viewer as to how it might play out that work well, and just being ambiguous doesn't make it intelligent, I actually see it as a bit lazy & rushed

To me a neatly wrapped up ending makes something very satisfying to watch, I don't mind my brain cells being worked a little (Inception is a good example) but I don't want to get to the end of a movie/game that is meant to be an emotional journey and be left thinking about the fate of central characters, I usually end up thinking "sequel" which is what mafia 2 left me with...........l

Mafia 1 is a "spoon fed" ending but can anyone honestly say it didn't stay with them? Surely that's the whole point of a story.

It's okay if you don't like the way Mafia II was. It's alright and I see where you're coming from, though I highly prefer to be left with some things that I can add up to realize the truth behind the shadow background of the characters (Henry for example...) as well as death row which gives an entire story meaning and impact (Joe for example...).

Everything is great their own way and I cannot tell anyone otherwise. Though, I myself really want 2K to reveal Joe's fate so fans can't stop going all about "MANG!!! BUT JOE HADDA GUN IN HIS PANTS!!!! HE COULDA EASILY KILLED DA GUYS IN DA CAR!!!!".

I agree RestInPeace, m2 had me attached to its story through and through, and it still have me left thinking, going left and right. So to me it also did its purpose, and since they nailed the caracters I wanted to give them a conclusion.

I think the ending of a film or game should reflect the narrative progression in the rest of the film/game, unless there is a certain point to be made with breaking the pattern.
Watch films like Week End, Vivre Sa Vie or The Last Tycoon (for an American example) for endings that seem sort of unsatisfying but at the same time aims to make a point or connect to earlier events in the film.

In Mafia II's case I would say that it does not reflect the rest of the story very well. The game is careful to introduce the main character, even showing us him as a child (something you didn't see in Mafia) only to cut him short in the end. Showing us his family issues and arrival to America only to not show us how he ultimately ends up. The one thing the ending Does comment is the rough life of these mobsters and how friendship really doesn't mean anything in the mafia. But we don't get to stay long enough to see the reaction of Joe's apparent assassination which leaves us with really nothing.

Hopefully Mafia 3 (should it be made) will have hints or references to Joe's fate and what Vito done afterwards, rather than an entire game about this.

I'd go along with that, similar to filling in the holes of Tommy in Mafia 2.

It would be good to see another mafia game, however if it never came to fruition then I would not be upset.

Well, the ending certainly kept people talking, that's a fact.

Talking about ambiguous fates and outcomes...when you think about it, Mafia 2 did it in a way that people could understand the ending but didn't quite liked it or acceped it; in games like Mass Effect 3, well, the endings were just disgraceful; and then you have Batman: Arkham City, which has a clear ending, though alot of fans just deny that any of it happened or claiming that it could simply not happen.

I still hold fond memories of Mafia 2, I guess I'm kind of happy that it's different, and that it didn't do what ME3 did going completly ambiguous, or neither what B:AC did, going completly clear.

I don't know, I know it's just me, but something about Mafia II still catches me, even today though, it's understandable how endings like that can piss people off, I know it pissed me off too, but hell, I still love it.

I think what made the ending so emotional for me was what happened after the dialogs. At first I was surprised and then when the camera slowed panned out to reveal a gloomy, wet city was when it hit me. It was truly an awesome scene, one that has stuck with me. Overall, I think the use of weather and atmospherics in Mafia 2 blew Mafia 1 away (along the city and characters), despite the apparent weaknesses in the story and some of the missions.

I don't agree mafia 1 was a little more open ended (you could drive in the city as well as the country side) but in mafia 2 i think vito's story isn't quite over if they do a mafia 3 who's to say in that they don't have vito try to save joe??
    because joe's a tough character.

I think the main "thing" that is missing in a lot of games is a real evolution of the character, theres always an appeal evolution like in max payne 3 but theres no real change, i think it must be hard but it can work for a good story. Whether they continue the story of Vito or not, they will have to take some steps back to the original formula of mafia, like life meter, good secondary missions, and im still convinced that the music when you where out of the car i mean, the music "theme" of the different parts of city Lost Heaven was a original detail.

I personally think that joe figured out that the mafia was going to kill him and shot both of the goonies in the car and went undercover.

Although it would be cool if veto was a mob boss in the next game. You end up killing him and picking up bits of what happened after mafia 2. Not enough to bore people who didn't play the 2nd game but enough to get a good idea of what happened.

Yes indeed. The first game was very original and big, and by "big" I mean HUGE. So many extra missions, easter eggs, secrets and all... That's what I call a perfectly crafted game. It only tells you how much time was spent and effort put to create a game like that.

Same for me, the ending was very emotional and sad and left loose ends. But, if the 3rd was about Vito and possibly alive Joe, It wouldn't be as great as if they go with another characters and story. Also, Dan wanted away from 2K because what they did to M2 and now they need a new writer / director to the possible 3rd game. I don't think the new writer would want to go to "Dan's boots" but rather the franchise would have a fresh start and see where it goes from there. It's just that will we ever experience as great MAFIA stories as 1 and 2 was? especially the first.

DV LinkedIn page has always had "lead designer/writer 2kgames next project" on it, could be anything but it could also be he started work on a M3 script before setting up warhorse....

New direction might be interesting as long as it is movie like, still think it'll be sandbox

I just love the ending of both Mafia games .
I certainly would not like to see Joe escaping his death, because I think Mafia II's story is about loss. At the end Vito trades everything he cared about in exchange for money and a (probably short) life in the mob, and his most significative loss is Joe's.
I would love to see a Mafia III with new characters and story.

I also think it would be cool if we were to see some type of connection to some Mafia II's characters, like the way Mafia II connected with Tommy Angelo's story.

For what it's worth, I just got done playing the main game for the second time and found it an even better experience than first time. It was more emotional for me and got more into the story, paying attention to details and mood swings. I liked the ending before and now I like it even better. I don't want Vito's story to continue, I think Joe was a better character and I had a blast playing him in JA. I know I've said this before but this is truly an amazing and awesome game, same with Mafia 1. If that's all we get, I'll be content.

I think that if Mafia 3 is made and am sure it will be. Vito Scaletta will possibly be in the new game but he wont be the playable charictor. I think by the time Mafia 3 comes around Vito will have been made a Don of one of the crime families in Empire Bay. I do believe Joe Barbaro was killed and Joe maybe referenced in Mafia 3 by say Vito going to visit Joe's grave and promise to avenge his death. Hell whoever the playable charictor is in Mafia 3 one of the missions could be to track down Joe Barbaro's killers and assasinate them. Sorta like in Mafia 2 when one of Vito and Joe's missions was to kill Mafia 1 main charictor Tommy Angelo. Mafia 3 will be set in the 50s and 60s so Vito will be much older and will fit a profile of a Don.

One of my wishes for Mafia 3 is I hope its as long as what Mafia 1 was. Mafia 2 had alot of missions cut from it and the game was much shorter than Maifa 1.

I'd like to see Vito return but also not as the playable character.
I want the player to see Vito, older, bitter, lonely.
See what a tough life of crime can do to a man.

In my idea of creating a whole new Mafia game that would span a few decades and starts in the 1920s and ends in the 1950s or 60s, we would be someone completely different but also involved with crime in the same city.
It would be fun to play some of the Mafia 1 and 2 missions from a different point of view, see Joe and Vito but as your enemies or competition.
How much would you laugh if you're about to rob a jewelry store and stumble upon Joe and Vito?
And maybe you're the one who has to shoot Joe, at the very end of this game, when you and Vito are old men, maybe you're the one who has to take Vito out too.
