Smile SCivCast Episode 02: "Socially Complex"

Complex socially too. Regular co-hosts Doug "ShuShu62", Melissa "wwjdfakb" and Troy "troyd" re-launch SCivCast (SC) as its new regular co-hosts with its second episode entitled "Socially Complex" with first-time guest co-host Ed "random user"; now netcasting, it has a runtime of 29m59s. The summary of topics is as follows:

    - 03m55s | Topic #1
For new players to Civilization: World, getting oriented and then getting settled.
    - 09m44s | Topic #2
The role barbarians play in the game between themselves and players, and between players themselves.
    - 14m16s | Topic #3
On the ability to jump from civilization to civilization, the value of 5-minute "trickles" and moderating harvest levels in CivWorld.
    - 17m35s | Topic #4
Reasons to play the game other than to win.

SCivCast is the fourth spin-off of the Civ strategy-centric PolyCast; follow the show on Twitter. Fellow sibling ModCast focuses on Civ modding, RevCast on Civilization: Revolution and TurnCast on Civ multiplay.

Funny you should ask. We just started coordinating the next episode. And now that we know we have 1 fan clamoring for the next episode we will be much more diligent in getting it done.

As near as I have been able to gather, this coordination has not yet come to fruition unfortunately.

    Well then...

You noted publicly a couple of weeks ago that you had started coordination efforts on recording the next episode, and combined with my not having heard back via PM, figured we'd update the Civ community where we're at. Episode 2 has been well received with the feedback provided us, so here's to the next one!

The problem is, was... 2 months is too long between shows.

The community has changed a lot in 2 months. My life has changed in 2 months. I took a month off from playing. The only topic I have posted on in the last month is a can of worms I don't want to revisit.

I took the time off because the commitments of the game were shading too many other aspects of my life. Unlike most of the grand 'I have played my last game' statements folks like to make, I still enjoy the game. It is a one of a kind social gaming experience. But I am trying to find a way to enjoy it without getting entangled in time commitments to it.

The Pod casts are one of those entanglements.

What you describe, ShuShu, is an unfortunate Catch-22: too much time in between episode recordings, yet not having enough time in your schedule to make those recordings. One of the primary reasons that the recording cycle has remained every other month is because of co-host availability; others being gauging ability to obtain an audience and measure its presence and balancing my time as editor with the other bi-monthly Civ podcast RevCast. Perhaps the two other regular co-hosts, and maybe even the guest from this episode, will be available to make the next recording even if you are not?

In short, I'm open to suggestions on next steps in order to have SCivCast retain and grow its existing audience without losing momentum.

    I appreciate that.

Chalk it up as a lesson learned.

A second lesson learned, the desire to have your hosts own the pocess, is very intimidating. The need to purchase Pamela Pro was one stress too mony.

Why did you buy something to make a podcast? There is enough software to do a podcast like this that is free.

Pamela Pro is the software I use to capture the voices of everyone on a Skype conference call and recommend. It has been a one-time purchase, but a purchase nonetheless. There is a freeware alternative called Call Recorder for Skype which I last tried some time ago, and while not dissatisfied with it prefer the functionality of PP.

Lightbulb SCivCast Episode 03 Panelists Sought

At this point in time still, SCivCast Episode 03's progress cannot get underway as panelists are needed to record it.

If anyone reading this is interested and available to do so, send me a private message here on the 2K forums. You will need a microphone (with headphones), Broadband Internet access and Skype.
