Boudicca only "ruled" a tiny corner of Britain.
Washington only ruled the Atlantic seaboard.
    Kamehameha only ruled Hawaii.

Boudicca never ruled the Iceni (the Romans took full power after her husband's death, instead of sharing it with her daughters, and then killed her when she led a revolt).
Theodora never ruled the Roman Empire (Byzantium).
    Gandhi never ruled India.

    Dido was mythical.
    Hiawatha was semi-mythical.

16 votes is not exactly a huge number, so I highly doubt people come here from other gaming forums just to vote.

I think they meant relatively speaking.

Good point that the leaders didn't necessarily lead their entire nation to be added and the fact that Dido is equally historical as any character from the Illiad. So if Alexander got moved to Macedonia who would be the best to represent Greece? I don't see this happening in 5 but it is interesting to theorize since they could change it later on if they make a 6.

Huh? I thought she was the queen of Castille.

Queen of Aragon and wife to the King of Castille. She never really ruled Castille, which of course is the majority of Spanish lands.

I thought Ferdinand was from Aragon and Isabella was from Castille. Did they marry and switch kingdoms or something?

Ferdinand looks like a drunk. I hate portraits, they either make them look ugly, fat, or disfigured. Anyway, Slick is right.

Wow he does look like a drunk, a drunk that tries to focus and look sober so he can get into a bar... and fails.

    *****

About the UAs of Byzantine and Celts, we know that Byzantine gets an extra belief and Celts get extra faith from cities near forests, but do you think that's it? I think if they are just that it's kind of small bonus.

On the other hand maybe that's how Celts are supposed to be, getting a huge early faith bonus from the UA and the Pictish warriors (they get faith from killing enemies).

For example I'd love Byzantine to be like "Extra belief. Religious buildings boost the defence of capital" referencing the great walls of Constantinopole.

Huh. For some reason, I always thought Isabella was from Aragon.

I'd imagine the Celts and Byzantines would get more than we've currently been told. The Celtic UA was told to us very briefly, and the Byzantine UA we discovered ourselves.

I want the Celts to be a strong civ. Don't disappoint me, Firaxis.

edit: I also want them to be partially Irish. It can be done.

I am looking forward to actually using the English now that I can have +1 extra spy fun. Looking forward to stealing Germany's enigma machines and sharing my knowledge of German U-boat pens on the western coast of France.

I'm looking forward to Ethiopia, I may do a One City Challenge and try to out-tech my opponents, then I could easily dominate the battlefield with stronger units based on tech, and stronger units based on the Spirit of Adwa UA.

There should be an "I can't decide!" option

That may change, but right now I'm particularly interested in the Maya. Early UU and UB... and their UA seems promising as well.

Wow is Sweden going to catch up to the Celts? There must be a bunch of Swedes on this board or something. Is their popularity because they're new to the series?

Probably because of their UA reveal. They'll be up there with the Diplomatic Civilizations.

Should we use Vlynor's new poll for this? After all most UAs have only just been revealed.

I know that I'm late to this party, but what do politics have to do with this statement? Last I checked, it was grade-school textbooks that taught us how the Native Americans were peaceful, earth-loving folks. Not some liberal agenda.

Anywho, I went with the Celts. I have been really interested in them ever since I saw the user-made mod, but I don't generally download mods, so I haven't been able to play as them. =P

Sounds like textbooks written by those with the aforementioned liberal agenda. Many Native Americans were quite content to shed each others' bllood. In this respect, they were no different than the majority of humans on Starship Earth.

He answered it before I did. The textbooks (at least those particular ones) were written by liberals.

I think it's more likely that they were written by bad historians looking to make a quick buck, who may or may not have been liberals. You can find ☺☺☺☺ty historical non-fiction on any group of people that generally cater to such stereotypical notions.
