Name your first squad of 4

    Julian Gollop
    David Braben
    Ian Bell
    Jake Solomon

If I end up with female soldiers, Jade Raymond springs to mind.

With names like that I'd be too terrified to let them run around unguarded back home in the base. =/

I have no idea what this is refers to. But if you end up with a female soldier, might I suggest "Sue".

I like the way the devs seem to have a meme about suggesting players, in each interview I've seen, to name their soldiers after friends and family members. It shows well they are fans of the original XCOM games since we probaby all did it back then (at least, I know I did).

So, I'll just do that and name my soldiers after my real world army squadmates. It has the advantage of making it personal when a muton horribly smash your best buddies to pieces!

Just let them follow the base's Roomba around on their off-duty period.

I usually think of these threads as cheesey, and never reply.. but heck, we have 6 months to kill so why not.

Acutally, I am also replying because I came up with the perfect names for my first 4 squaddies and I'm really excited about it !

    Gen_Pho
    Gazz
    Inkidu
    Katscan

the next two followups will be
    SectoidSquisher
    Brian Damage

I will let you guys know how you do. Unfortunately, I can tell you right now not all of you will come back home after the first mission. Although I think I have a better chance than the rest of you because, guess what? Inkidu is on point and my ass is in the rear !

I'll bet our squad motto is "Exercitus est sicut stercus gallinaceum. Quam potest relinquo?"...

    Larry, Curly, Moe, Shemp.

    J/k.

Doubt I'll even bother with the first squad or three since I'll restart the game repeatedly while learning and experimenting.

Mine depends if I'm gonna play it classic mode, then I probably wont name them, if I'm going with my favorite train-5-guys-into-elite-squad-then-win-the-game mode: my family, if I'm doing the terminator soldier thing (one maniac with 100 accuracy, 100 Health, 80 Psi energy, 65 psi attack and 75 Psi defense) I have a special name for him: ErazemPredjamski

Hehe.. people lining up to get shot up. I should put money on which forum member gets killed by a berserker first.

I always name them after their strengths:

James Snipper, Heavy D., B-Man, Chuck Norris.

I'll join, too! I can't shoot straight but I can sing. (If you've seen "Mars Attacks" then you know the awesome power of song.)

Hurm... I think I'm going to go niche with the names of my first squad:

    Edmund Blackadder
    S. Baldrick
George Colehurst St. Barleigh (Or just George Barleigh, if need be)
    Kevin Darling

    Alternative names:
    Melchett
    Nursey
    Queenie
    Bob Parkhurst
    Lord Flashheart...

    And that's enough.

There are enough active people on these forums that I can just pull their names for my squad, heh. I wonder how many of us will be still 'active' after the game is released. I, for one, will probably not be around for the first couple weeks since I don't want to see any spoilers. That's going to be hard tho, since I'm watching all the podcasts and interviews.

I think I'll just play a game with Katscan the assault soldier and see how far you get on your own.

Probably pretty far (distance wise at least) given the very large movement distance ! Ba-dum-boop. Cymbal crash.

Name 'em? I never name em. Even the most highly trained operative is expendable, and I'll be too attached to the little buggers if I named them...

    Actually never named them too.

    Probably should have tried...

Well you could always give them code numbers, like gunner 41256 / HW

The consequences are (as JS has mentioned about a designer) if you have a soldier named after your wife/girlfriend, maybe after sustaining a wound you retreat her to cover instead of going all out and risk losing her ...

Sorry to bring this old ass thread back, but the title is still relevant, and it brings back old memories.

I might actually pick names from that thread where everyone told where they're from and what type of soldier they preferred to be.
