    Legend of Grimrock

Legend of Grimrock came out today!

Check out the video trailer: here.

This is one I've been following for a while and later on today (it's 5am as I type this here) when my local store opens I'm going to go purchase a disposable credit card and then use that to buy this!

LoG is basically a modern implementation of games like Dungeon Master (screenshots) and Eye of the Beholder (screenshots). Those two old games were not actually 3d, you moved in tiles or "jumps" of 8 feet at a time. Legend of Grimrock, by comparison, is fully 3D and since I loved the old DM and EotB games when they were new I'm absolutely positive I'm going to love LoG. A game like LoG doesn't get made often nowadays as everything is shooter-shooter-shooter because studio's making games have become too risk-adverse to anything that isn't "safe" to make.

Here is a video review for Legend of Grimrock: here

Headkase did you play it, how did you enjoy it? It has gotten awesome reviews. I had bought it at release but my computer crapped out so haven't played it yet. Just got a new desktop so hope to put some time in too Grimrock the next few days.

I'm with you in that, I grew up loving the Eye of the Beholder games, hope more games like these come out. I also picked up Stonekeep on a GOG sale heard that is a similar game to these as well.

I've been playing it: it's awesome. You have to like the "dungeon crawler" as a prerequisite, but, if you do: totally awesome. And a cheap price too!

I heard that the puzzles get redundant after a while, but other than that it looks awesome, I want it!

Right now they're working on a level editor. When that is complete it'll be a free download. The game comes with the "Grimrock" dungeon out of the box: once the level editor is out expect many third-party dungeons! And since Grimrock is so cheap to start with that'll just be icing on the cake!

A level editor would be dangerous to my free time that is. Only issue would be maybe digging through to find the highest quality created dungeons. Def looking forward to putting some time into it Grimrock as well as Max Payne this weekend. Glad to have someone to chat about Grimrock with!

Just started and put in about 4 hours today into Grimrock, awesome game and pretty tough as well, got wiped a few times only playing on normal. I just got past the level where you put 4 scrolls into their respective alcoves you , I think it was the 5th level. Running with a minotaur fighter, human fighter, human mage, and lizardman thief. Also downloaded some classic portrait packs which were for NeverwinterNights also work for Grimrock.

@headkase, curious what you went through with on your first run? and have any tips? Also did you download any cool portrait packs. I'd seriously kill for a Bioshock pack with Ryan, Cohen, Steinman, and Fontaine!

I went with the default party my first time through. Also, I didn't know you could get portrait packs!

Yeah, when I put those 4 scrolls in and the walls opened up and got swarmed with those little green monsters: I ran like hell. Right into the next level!

Just check the LOG forums to find links to various portrait packs which work! Did you know you can also play as just Toorum the guy who leaves you all those notes in the dungeon, he moves at double speed and has a unique skill set. You have to find his bones and resurrect him though first. Def look it up if your interested in going through as him.

I just finished LOG, the end game with no way of turning back kind of disappointed, would have liked to have a chance to have gone back. Great game overall though not perfect - could have used a few varied more enemies/environments, a cleric class would have been nice, and casting spells with the runes got tedious would have liked them to perhaps remember the last spell you cast. I think my characters were almost level 13 would def like to be able to export them to future LOG game's or custom created dungeons. I started a Toorum run on hard but didn't do too much may give LOG a breather and try out Stonekeep.

@Headkase, anything in particular you didn't care for or would like to see improved?

For any Grimrock fan's out there, they have been releasing new info on the development of the game on their website. I also checked out this pretty good video of a preview - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=hDmF-h9dRF8 of the dungeon editor which is in alpha right now. Looking forward to more content for this game!

Legend of Grimrock 2 has been announced!!! - http://www.grimrock.net/2013/02/21/a...e-new-project/

Very exciting news, as Grimrock was one of my favorite games last year to play, never got around to doing my Toorum run or mess around with the editor or any of the fan created content, as their is just not enough time in the day but will def pick up the sequel!

    Oooooo!

Even though I never finished the first Grimrock (got distracted, never got back to it) ... hearing of a sequel makes my wallet itch, hahaha!
