Combine your 3% chance with my 3% chance and our chances of playing are about equivilent as the chance of you beating me the next time we play.

Okay, so there's a 0.09% we'll play tonight and a 6% chance I'll win if we do. What are the odds you'll start whining about how you always get terrible starts?

Yes, RickWJ is still the best domination GOTW player in my view although I would be interested to see how Kadera would stack up if RickWJ were still playing. When the official Firaxis GOTW competition was on, RickWJ won every single week in Deity & competed against Nutrasweet, generic toaster, etc.... It used to be posted on the web.

I always thought you and a good number of other players had a stronger grasp of certain nuances of the game that I often overlooked. Example: Properly making an archer army so they are fully fortified immediately.

There are a number of other instances of "little" things I think I am not particularly great at. But the things I am very strong at are weighted at a significantly higher value than the sum of all those little things. This game is about aggression, aggression, aggression. I can bring the heat. Most players online can't handle that, and even the great players it is much harder to function if you are playing the game fearful that an attack could come at any point.

So I would still put myself in the "second tier" behind the true greats (Duke, Morte, Pedal, Mawpawk, etc.) If I had more experience against them, I think it would've trained me to be more conscious of the little things and elevate myself to their level.

I do not really think you can credit anyone with starting a settler or knight rush. I have played since the game came out and walked my settler most of the time depending on which civ i used.

Swift has really tarnished his name in my eyes. He has cheated me personally barb glitching and continued to do it after I called him out on it and I assume he has done it to many others. I don't have any respect for cheaters and he was and is an all american player on top of cheater not a good combo

Some of the best guys are the ones I played in the one tournament I was in. I remember going 1-1 against Morte and 1-1 against Duke. Great games, especially the Duke one I won. I was India and he was Mongolia? Anyway, long story short is we were going back and forth on these two cities (making zero progress tech-wise or anything) with warriors and the like. His capital was way northwest so when he wasn't looking I sent a lone warrior this long round-about way up to his capital and it was a button race to get in. Epic conclusion for a game that involve approximately 10X10 tiles on the map and two cities lol.

Yea we kind of let this thread go because it was pissing some people off............but rushing american settlers doesnt get you on this list...you have to be able to manipulate all civs to be considered one of the best.....also morte and pedal and many of the players you mentioned are considered living legends in many of the forum members eyes and Im pretty sure they are all on the list. Kyodai is pretty good....but if you like swift refer to packrats comments as atleast 5 people witnessed the event in question via a party and conversation..... oh btw....I have no problem if calling out swift gets this thread shut down.....

yeah i would have settler walked the first game i played. and cap rushed the other human player on the second game. It was natural for a person who had played GOTW.
but yeah if he means settllers with USA thats a little differnet.

On the PS3 I started rushing settlers from America in ancient without republic. RonnieBooCiv asked me what the hell I was doing and I said I didn't really know. I'm not ashamed to admit that I was a noob like everybody else once upon a time!! I suppose that happens when you dive straight into MP though. Learning curves that were always going to be needed though.

For much of that time was me. I played partners with Swift too, and he was good. Also we played partners, and I can remember a game where we were camped like crazy by some power civs, and we still came back with a sneak attack. Good times.

Yea. I miss playing teams. Every time we play together we had this strategy. Give ur partner withe better or startrt or rusher most of the barbs. While I tech for him and put up defense scouts and baits.

    Hey Jack,
Apologies for the late reply but my schedule is very erratic. I don't play many video games to speak of since December of 2011 when I injured my nerve bundle coming out of the left side of my neck due to... wait for it... playing video games! Yep, I played Forza Motorsport 4 like a maniac (top-50 in Class A Ovals & #1 Class A Ford GT times in the world on ovals) & it cost me. The number of hours you have to spend to tune your car for each track & running laps is simply ridiculous. So now I basically can't play anything w/o paying for it disproportionately so I just don't bother much. I have played GOTW like 1 or 2 times since January but I can do that at my own pace & limit aggravating the nerve somewhat.
I've filled the time with more productive activities so it's not a loss. In fact, in some ways, I think it's been a blessing in disguise. My devotion to video games was undeniably unhealthy. I think I needed something like intense pain to break me out of the cycle frankly. Now there's a genuinely valuable purpose of pain: to indicate unhealthy excess & provide motivation to change.

Anyhow, thanks for asking & I hope all is well down under.

    best regards,
    Pedal2Metal

Mawpaw isnt high enough Zef.....the old school players we grew up with cant hold a candle to todays best players.......many of these players are definites on the biggest contributors to civ rev of all time....but many of them cant compete with todays best players the way they could 2 years ago when they stopped playing regularly....the strats have evolved too much.....example...the mass expansion strat doesnt wor anymore against top players.....

But the thread asks about the best players of all time, not who's best at any particular moment. So you're no doubt right that if players from 2 years ago played the way they did 2 years ago against the current best players right now, they would lose. But that would be as bad as saying that Wilt Chamberlain, if he were playing in the NBA today in peak shape, wouldn't change his game to adapt to the times. He certainly would! So I would classify Chamberlain as one of the top 5 players of all time even if he only ranks in the top 150-200 based strictly on how he played 50 years ago.

But even if you grant my rebuttal, I will agree with anyone here that these lists are somewhat relative and subjective. For example, I put Duke and Headless way up top b/c they beat me so often, whereas I split a lot of games with players like Grayson and P2M---even though both of those players might be considered top 10 or 15 based on their contributions and how they dominated so many others. So if it's based even partly on personal experience, there's bound to be a subjective element in the lists, and thus I wouldn't necessarily disagree with anyone who put MawPawk up higher.

I'm also unsure about Morte and P2M2 based on questionable activities.
