Finally played Mani4c, 2-0

First game: germans vs germans
Settled 3700 close to a barb and get a galley. Spot KT nw and head for it while I explore to the east. Meet the romans, but by the time I had a WA it's to late to take them out. Meanwhile Mani4c take out the chinese. Bring the KT to mainland and spot his borders. Next turn I take Berlin and see he has a WA close by. He brings his WA and I attack 8-4,5 and loose?? Rush archer and build road from my 100g city but find the road is blocked by barbarian? Long story short,- he take my 100g village, I take it back and he retakes it. Then he attacks my AA in Berlin og looses three WA's and quit.

Second game: india vs india
I pick up two goodie huts and net 50g while he gets an island start,- we quit

New game: india vs india
I pass two barbarians and settle 3700 next to the third barbarian. Takes it out and move another warrior north. Spot india on a hill and head back for Dehli when he forms an WA. I fortify my WA and rush another warrior. Thought about attacking him with lone warrior, then WA, but wait one turn. He attacks, looses and quits..

To bad we didn't get any epic games, but finally the luck was on my side. GGs

Rem0, sunday evening would be perfect since I have a lot to do this weekend. However it is reported to rain heavilly tomorrow, so if you're not going away, post it and we might be able to squeeze in a couple of games. Nice to get a pause from hard garden labour !!

Ok guys week 7 is in the books......after week 8 we will officially be half way through the season.....awesomeness...

Week 7

Well big things might have happened last week but huge things happened this week.

Division 1: After being 1st(sole or tied) for the first 7 weeks of the season Blades was finally removed by a huge sweep by Duke. This moves Duke into 1st place by 1 game and after liam pulled off his 3rd consecutive sweep(a feet only matched by DP and Blades) he is now tied for second with Blades at 9-5. Multi is still right in contetnion being 2 games back with 18 games left to play. Also Ade went big this week not only recording his 1st win but his first 2. Well done on your captains choice ade you pulled that off well.

Division 2: Less excitement here this week as Packrat still manages to remain all but flawless. At 13-1 he is dominating the league being atleast 3 games ahead of all competitors in all divisions. He also has the longest winning streak at 8. As for the rest of the division REM is solid at 2nd with a 10-4 showing while Mawpawk and Prey are battling it out for the 3rd and last playoff spot at 7-7 and 6-8 respectively. Dan also made a nice move pulling into a tie for 5th.

Week 8 History Month: Battles of the Past:

Well Im quite excited about this, June is officially history month for civrev. It was an idea I garnered from dan and think it will be quite fun. For the next 5 weeks we will be playing grudge matches that all represent a well know battle from the past.

This week we will be starting of with one of the most famous battles of all time.

Battle of Thermopyolae: 480BC: India vs Greece

Well if you didn't know the Battle of Thermopylae was what the movie 300 was based upon. This battle took place in September of 480BC and was between the alliance of Greek City-states led by King Leonidas of Sparta and the Persian Empire of Xerxes I. The battle took place over a period of 3 days and actually happend simultaneously to that of the Naval Battle of Artemisium which many would say turned the tides of the war for the Greeks. During the Persians march into Greek territory they had to march through the pass of Thermopylae. they were rumored to have over 1 milion men but scholars today estimate it to be much closer to that of 100-300 thousand. Anyways, the Greeks only had 7,000 men to guard the pass and they faught valiantly over a course of 7 days to hold it.

For the first few days of battle the Spartans were able to hold the pass despite the outrageous odds. It wasnt until a few days later that Ephialtes, a local Greek resident betrayed his fellow countrymen by informing the Persians of a small path that led behind Greek lines. This set up one of histories most famous last stands as the Greek rear-guard was annihalated. Leonidas, knowing that his army was being outflanked called for his bravest men to stay behind. He sent the bulk of his army with the women and children away from Thermopylae and stayed with his 300 Spartans as well as about 400 Thespians and 300 Thebans. These last 3 days of battle are what the Spartans are known for. Most of these men were killed during the stand including Leonidas but the amount of lives they saved by holding of the Persian march was a testament to their courage and pride as men.

Well anyways fellas, Greek is supposed to be at a disadvantage so this week is fitting. Good luck this week. Since no games have been played yet and its already Friday I would be open to extending this week. With duke being out of town and it being summer(last week was a holiday in the US) I think a lot of people were waiting to see if ade and maniac would get there games in. Well they did.....so good luck fellas.....we will play it by ear but hopefully we can get it all in this weekend.

First game: Multi=Greeks and Dan=Indians

I have a great start by taking out the Zulu and then I get my 100g to then find AoC. The game was pretty much dead as there was never conflict us as Dan started on a island but didn't know until later apparently as he played it out with him finding SoC. I had 5 cities the whole game as teched straight for cruisers. When I get cruisers Dan decides to quit but he couldn't have known as he never seen what techs I got but only know I was killing him tech. He did manage to take out the English but it was so late when he did.

Second Game: Multi=Indians and Dan=Greeks

I started off so dang bad on this map and I knew it right off bat but the map I remember having alot of barbs didn't have not more than one barb for me to see after settler walking for 8 turns. I eventually found a friendly going back the direction I came. I see the Arabs on a small peninsular and settle with oak next to my cap. I send a WA to them in which loses even after the 3 warrior trick. I have no gold and have to hammer another WA for 6 turns and then manage to take them out getting religion. All this time I don't know what the heck Dan doing as he settled pretty early and went into despotism( I guess to take out Mongols???). Nothing is never heard of or noticed on his side from what I could view and he never got his 100g.

We meet and he puts a pikeman on my Oak but I'm in fundy and kill the pikeman. Strange thing out of Dan was the every unit I seen running around was a pikeman as if he never built warriors. I attack the only barb I seen and send caravan prize to Spanish but apparently Dan made war with them as they were working on two trees with 4 pop. I get my 100g and make a galley with 2 settlers. I go up north approximately 6 or 7 squares to the east of Athens is 7cog... Dan quits.

i knew i was on an island early in the 1st game, but it was 25 squares or so. i'm not calling a restart on that, and no one else should either. i got a tech from my only barb, then 2 ge's from the school. except for a late barb on an island it was the only gold i got.

2nd game the map was huge, and i used all my early gold to send out units. only 2 pikes and the rest warriors. pikes come in handy for choking and camping. if i had held your oak it would have been well worth the extra 10 gold. i didn't war on the spanish. i lost 3-2 to a nice mongol barb city. i had 2 fish and wine in athens, so maybe i should have gone mega and hung in. mainly it was a frustration quit, as i knew that 7 cities was there all along, but i couldn't get to it. i had just rushed a settler and was going to settle it up there when you grabbed it. if i had just done a standard horse rush i probably would have been ok, but the map had so many approaches to athens that i didn't feel safe until i burned all my gold on single units.

The fact I expanded and came back from you getting 7cog/angkor Wat/took out 2 caps for navigation & something else and then got early east india!!? Also had to fend off 2 fundi horse armies of yours and then started the comeback with some very angry knights!! We traded a lot of cities but as soon as I took Athens with EITC and held it there was no coming back for you. Good game.

We played the reverse this morning he got a great start and I got pottery. He steals my only other barb but does it double turn style whilst I was changing governments and my units locked up. Said he could have it though as my start was pap...

I wanted to show him my true greek power of teching and did so the next game courtesy of early republic 10 cities from angkor then the switch back to Demo.. BOOM!! 120 tech per turn!

I didn't have it quite my own way and the fundi infil knight army with gg wouldn't of mattered if it got injured attacking at 37.5 to 7.5 each time. Your downfall was that needless road to athens which I could continuously spill units down. I lost a ka at madrid and also a HA trying to take a city back both against the odds.

I took both the AI out after 40 turns while you got yours around 3700. I shouldn't have built the road but with all the battle luck I doubt it would've mattered. The closest Ai was on an island and the second closest, Spain was at the end of a peninsula. We were polar opposites. My HA's weren't fundy, you flipped one of them and I got injured on a 9-2.5. If I don't get injured I would've taken your library city but thats how it goes. After that I spent everything trying to hold that city but your invencible KA just wouldn't even get hurt. Finally when I got odds in my favor 23.5-22.5 I lose and you get a GG. Without that you lose the game. You lost a fundy HA to my pikeman in Madrid because you attacked after you got injured with the march upgrade. So I doubt it was in your favor. Guesing it was 6.75 to my 7.5 and you lost.

No I was in republic. I teched it after I gb'd EITC and then I switched. My attack was only 9+1 with the galleon if you noticed. GG though, not easy to come back from that. I shouldn't have made that road but there were tons of battles you didn't even get hurt on that you should've.

I was under the impression that 6-3 was the start date... not the completed date for this week. Am I wrong? I know MawPawk and I were prioritizing the 8 man because we though we had all this week to play.

Either way, I think we are planning to get our games in tonight.

That is what I thought. This is a league. It is supposed to be spread out. 2 games a week. I think Grizz desearves mad props for this. I have absolutely zero complaints so far. Multi, you have to realize that you play this game more than 95% of us.

I had said I was considering this but most of the people probably just skimmed the synopsis and missed it. Lets have a vote, I have final veto rights but i always like opinions. Setting the weeks all back one week would set us back on track. However, I would prefer people to just get their games in and get back on track that way. Opinions?

Lost game 1 to Mawpawk. Could have been an epic game but turned out to be a bit of a dud.

I got a terrible start. Nothing around me. I meet my first civ in 1800 which is the Spanish which I take a few turns later for Nav. Sounds good, except Mawpawk and gotten a walk in on English for Monarchy and the took the Romans for CoL soon after.

Anways, I get 7 cities of gold shortly after the Spanish so I have some hope. I mess up bad and accidentally sell my 100g settler. Oops. I have a bunch of gold though so I got for galleon fleet, fundy legions which are really hard to stop. I have the fleet, a cat army, and about 12 single legions (they attack at 7.5 each). Everything is vet.

The Mawpawk uses a GB for the great wall the turn I'm about to land everything. I keep playing but it takes my ages to get to engineering and he already had industrialization for about 7 turns. We had some good battles but he had about 6 knight armies and a bunch of pikemen units. I think I would have taken him out if it wasn't for the timely GB but oh well.

I should add that I think Mawpawk is one of the few people (even forum members) that would have been me in that situation. He probably outplayed me in the game anyways... my selling my settler mistake might have cost me.

He said he though it might be an island on turn 1 and I told him he could check it out and we could restart if it was. Turns out it was and then he elected to stay in the game. Not sure why... maybe he felt bad about the GW from last game. I wouldn't have minded the restart since we almost always have good games.
