"Whatever the mess may be, it looks like I'm in for the ride." He gestured toward his company name tag on the table beside him, right next to a half-eaten slice of pie and a bottle of doctor-prescribed painkillers.

  2. #282
"not even I am quite sure."
    A doctor walked in.
"I was hoping to find you here Mrs. Angelious, Your husband is waking up."

He nodded with approval. "Go see him, I've got a pie to keep me company."

  4. #284
"I would like to see him now." The doctor escorted her out of the room.

OOC: Not really much for me to say here

  6. #286
"That woman is a tiger, a snake, and spider, all rolled into one. Watch where you step if you don't want to be bitten." A man in his early sixties entered. He stopped at the head of his bed and leaned against a beautiful ebony walking stick with a silver eagle head with rubies for eyes and silver talons for the foot.
"Tell me something, my dear boy. What do you think is more dangerous, a warrior that fights for honor or one who fights to survive?"

"Going to have to go with honor, Mr. Mystery Man. Someone takes away your honor, you don't have anything to lose getting revenge, do you?"

  8. #288
"Clearly you and I have different views on that. I am merely known as The Boss. Don't ask me why, it just is. I still haven't gotten the joke and the guy who gave it to me has been dead for nearly twenty five years, so what ever it was, he took it to his grave."

"Alright. Is this about the man I killed? He shot at me first, it was self-defense."

"No, no. I'm not here for that particular reason."

"Okay, then. 'Boss'... I've heard that word thrown around a lot in my time, but it could mean any number of bosses. There was someone in Mexico going by 'Jefe', I've dealt with mob bosses, that sort of thing... but somehow I get the impression you're different. You don't look like a criminal. Tell me, what is it you need from me?"

"Ah, that one. I apologize, I've only just started working here and I don't know all the faces yet. Sir, how may I be of help?"

He let out a deep breath. Thus far, he had only heard good things about how the SPO treated their people. He was here as a plant, forced into it by a government that he had once loathed. Whether or not that loathing was justified, he wanted out. Time to spill the beans.

"I'm not even going to try to hide it. I was planted into your organization by a mob of shady government types. It was something about the CIA hiring you when they shouldn't have, and I've been on Uncle Sam's bad side for years now. They'd just gotten their hands on me, and they stuck me with you as soon as they could. I thought they were trying some creative scheme to get rid of me when the fire started. So, I went into the fire to maybe find whoever started it, or what, and of course help any survivors- or just die there like they probably wanted me to. I found what I was looking for, some shady character in a trenchcoat who pulled a gun on me as soon as we met.

"I still don't know if they sent him, if it was someone from my past, or if your group has some enemies, but he sure as hell tried to kill me. I had one man suffocating to death that I had to get to help immediately and Mr. Trenchcoat was in my way. I shot him and got to safety as soon as I could. In retrospect the smart thing to do would have been to evacuate like everyone else, but I guess I wasn't feeling very smart.

"So, I'm a spy, but it's not my will to be here- if it were I'd have just given you some bull about 'doing the right thing'. If I can help you in any way cleaning this up, I suppose I'm obligated to."

  16. #296
He blinked a few times then began to laugh, hard.
"Is that their reason? They couldnt be farther from the truth!" He wiped a few tears from his eyes.
"I haven't laughed this hard in years, not since Fredrich died. We weren't fully commissioned by the CIA, The president asked me personally to help with the effort. It was our civic duty to help our country, and that's why we are helping. I apperiate you being honest with me, and I am sure the president will forgive you too. I'll report this to him and the head of the CIA immediately."

He didn't know how to react. "...Thank you?" Traditionally, traitors have their heads displayed on stakes for all to see. What makes me so special?

"I am not a fan of politicians myself, I'm old and I don't have time to run in circles, but I can get you a presidential pardon, if you swear to tell those...oh, how should I insult them...Buffoons that can't tell a good man from Jack The Ripper, a thing. They will receive their just deserts with time."

OOC: I was originally going to throw a presidential pardon into the mix but I couldn't find a way to fit it in. Thanks!

    "What would that be, sir?"

"If it means returning to semi-normalcy, I'll do it. I understand if you only want me working on very low-level stuff, I just need a job."

What's the catch here? This is all way too good to be true.

"For ten years I went by John Doe- clearly that's not really my name. I was part of the 'black helicopter' crowd, gathering government intelligence by any means possible, often meaning doing under-the-table deals with all sorts of criminals from all over the globe. The aim of the group, or what I was told it was, was to horde information and evidence of government corruption and expose it to the world. From what I've now been told, the vast majority of that information was sent straight to China. Don't know if that's true or not, but the important part is that I was so involved in the group for so long under my false name that... my real one slipped my mind, to be honest. I've got a believable name now, I'm thinking of just going with it."

Whether his honesty was to show defiance toward his government controllers or if he was trying to soften the blow of his crimes, he didn't know.

He couldn't help but laugh at the irony. "Corruption's a smoldering pile of rubble right now, and I've got a bullet lodged in my gut. I think it will be a while until I'm back at work, but I'll be glad to work with you. Seems like my old... line of work, except more legal."

  26. #306
"I'm glad you feel that way. We try to keep as legal as possible, but sometimes it's best to go underground. Like the saying goes 'you have to fight fire with fire.' I was in the corruption department myself when I was first hired as well. Thirty years spent until I was promoted to Head."

"I'm glad to have a job, but I just wonder how long until the FBI or whoever they were finds out I spilled the beans. If I'm getting a pardon, there's not much they can legally do, but I've seen people do crazier things."

  28. #308
"They would get in more trouble than you would. Conspiracy and blackmail are hard charges, especially for ones in their position."

"Good to hear. I must admit, I'm mostly surprised my neck is still intact right now. If something like this had gone on five years ago I'd be at the bottom of the Hudson."

OOC: Chicago is in the northeast... actually more midwest.

"Thank you for the chance to redeem myself. Unless this job turns out to be the greatest thing ever, I'll probably try to make a return to 'civilian' life as soon as my debts are repaid, but until then I'm at your service."

  32. #312
"I won't let you retire that easily. I have a few still in their 70s working in the southern branch. Hate to call you a weakling who can't take out line of work."
"No you won't, as soon as he's done. He's coming with me to learn how to control his powers. Something you are not very good at."
Crystal entered, glaring at The Boss.
"Now Now. No need to get angry at me."
"you hardly are giving him anything long term. I can at least offer him a home and a good life, if he chooses to accept it. He'll have a family in Falcon, I can make sure of that. My disciples will welcome him warmly in our ranks."

"Eh, I've heard that one before and it didn't go quite as I had planned. At the moment I have a debt to repay to this SPO, and however long it takes, I'll repay it. My... eh, powers... I might need them some day, God forbid, and because of that I would indeed like to understand them better. At the end of the day, though, I just want to find a nice home and retire on my own terms. Not that that matters to either of you, of course."

  34. #314
"Your organization is like a parasite, sucking the life and energy out of your workers until there is nothing left to use. If I had the choice, my husband would have left you long ago. Our powers are not to be controlled by anyone but ourselves! You treat Eric like a...a...dog! That is the reason I turn down your job offer, I will not be your dog!"
    "that isn't true!"
"Then why is my husband in a hospital bed! Answer me that!"
The Boss fell silent for a moment.
"I do not know who is doing that, but I would never abuse Eric's loyalty to the SPO and to this mission."

He made a dismissive gesture and maintained silence. At least it's less pysically violent than what you're used to, though a war of words is never a pretty sight.

  36. #316
"You and your organization has caused enough destruction for one day. Why don't you just leave."
"We are not parasites, contrary to your belief and what Eric does with his powers is his business. I have never ordered him to use them! I have also never ordered him to kill. I know we may not see eye to eye, Crystal, but I am not your enemy. I saved your husband from death row for a reason, so he can fight on the right side. We reward loyalty, not abuse it, well at least I don't. Frankly, if this place wasn't in such a stage of chaos, I would pull Eric out, but he is one of the few who knows how to kill things like these, except him of course."

I see where this is going... that one I took down in New York was on national television so it's no secret I know how to deal with them. God, hopefully this place has good security, I don't think I could do it again with a bullet in my gut. Docs'll get it out later, but you can't schedule an enemy surprise attack, can you?

  38. #318
"What am I? A suit of armor!"
"If your volunteering, you can hunt to your hearts content, with those monsters as your prey. Eric would've killed me if it was my idea."
    "...I'll think about it."

"I think you'd both be interested in how you're supposed to kill the things, would you not?

"Sir, if you and your agents are going to be taking these things head-on, you need to know how, and Crystal, ma'am, I wouldn't recommend going against them on your own but I can't exactly stop you from trying."

"A student is only as good as his teacher, my dear boy." She chuckled.
"Just because I am a wife and have three kids to take care of, doesn't mean I am less dangerous than any of you men."
"You are ten times more. I have heard the stories of you killing whole armies, I am surprised you haven't taken over the country yet."
"Not interested in that. Falcon city is perfect for me, even though I dont actually run it personally. I wish to make a utopia of sorts and you can quote that."
