OOC: I thought she was talking about the box.

"That will not be necessary, but I appreciate the offer. Thank you very much for the pie."

"If you insist. What is your name? Do you have any family? I see no one other than that extremely rude man that is using you as a toy and pretending that you are a traitor to this country. Your employer has made stranger deals though, even tried to offer me a job. Found my maddness to be unique."

You, a mad assassin? "Well, I'm not exactly here voluntarily. Name's Daryl O'Connor. I was an only child and my parents died in a car accident three years ago," he lied. "Had a wife once but that barely lasted a year. So, no, I have no family." He wasn't certain that the cover would work here. She'd already alluded to his treason and there was doubtless more to her than met the eye.

"Oh stop lying to me.I know you are. You hardly look like a family man. You aren't as damaged to be an orphan. Now are you goig to tell me the truth or are you going to hide forever behind such a veil."

"I got the impression the whole act was in vain," Daryl said, sighing. "Truth be told I've been under false names for so long I don't know who I really am. I would like to say, however, that neither my cover nor myself have ever been a family man. That part wasn't an accident. My parents- haven't talked to them in over ten years," he said truthfully. "Don't even remember their names. Never had a wife, either. Guess I was just the perfect fit for their purposes."

It felt good to be honest for a little, but he knew he was taking a very large risk by doing so.

"Thank you with being so honest with me. Not everyday a case of identity falls into my lap, then again I've dealt with much worse. You have made yourself a very powerful ally, whether you realize it or not. Now enjoy your pie." She walked out.
"He saw something, I'm sure of it. Eric had to have used the failsafe law or else they wouldn't be alive right now. Pipes don't burst all at once. I need to know what's going on." She headed to the elevator and went down to the lobby. There she saw her one true weakness.

In the lobby, the staff kept a grand piano. It was in decently good shape with occasional chip on a key. The instrument was a magnet for her curiousity and before she knew it, she had sat down on the bench and lifted the board revealing the keys. She began to play with such beauty and brilliance and everyon in the lobby stopped and stared. A gift of music to rival the great masters themselves.

"We have confirmation that the organization exists," he said. "We have men investigating the remains of their headquarters. The entire structure is closed for the moment. The basement and portions of the ground floor were used for the SPO," he added to show that they now had a name to go with the rest of the evidence. "Rest of the building was dedicated to the legitimate SCP Foundation, a charity. The legal portion of the building being shut down means it will be that much easier to conduct a real investigation.

"The SPO operating outside of the law. They do business carefully, all under-the-table stuff. They choose clients wisely, using their secrecy as an advantage over other, similar organizations. We now have proof that CIA has employed them for preventing the release of the Slime drug into the United States. As you know, the effort would likely have been successful if CIA had done it themselves, but they didn't want to get their hands dirty. Now they will pay the price for failure."

They were in Washington, D.C. in one of many highly-secure government buildings. Both of them, senior government officials, were here to share information and to attempt to devise a plan. The man speaking was a 20-year veteran of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

"The agent?" asked the other man, a senior member of the DEA.

"He wasn't a real agent. He can fend for himself. We already have everything we need from him, and he's got enough enemies in the world that he won't be a problem for long. We're trying to track down the head of his old 'spy club', but we've had little luck. We have confirmed the Chinese connection, and we have also found American documents in his apartment that would indicate that the Russian government has penetrated our intelligence-gathering community."

"Lovely," the other said. "So, you will leave him as he is, break contact, and confront CIA?" He got a nod in return. "Very well. I still want eyes on him, and if he tries to make his way back to his old friends, you can put him out of business for good. If given enough time, god knows how much damage he could have done to our country. By the way, I'll have some of my people head your way to see if they can't be of use." With that, they shook hands and left the building.

The poor boy has not lost his innocence. He truly does not know what is going on. People are not toys for others to play with an those who are players will pay, one way or another. The war has already begun and they are too stupid to realize it. Time manipulation is a powerful gift and will save many, but is he ready. Only he will tell me. Crystal stood up from the piano bench, knowing what she needed to do.
Their corruption will be their death as I have done to thousands of their kind.

OOC: He can only slow down time in situations where he would normally have no chance of survival, and only he perceives it. I could change that for the purposes of the RP, but that's what I had in mind.

Also, did we scare off Rosie?

OOC:I have no idea.Perhaps she has gotten deployed like she wanted.
With the time thing, he would be subconsciously activating it though such a scenario as his adrenaline is reaching its peak, much like a self defense or fight or flight.

    OOC: anyway lets continue.
The next day Crystal returned to the hospital.

According to the news, the National Guard was now patrolling the U.S.-Mexican border and SWAT teams across the country were in a frenzy. The President had made a speech assuring the public that all would be fine and to exercise caution when travelling. The media was now showing security camera footage of the encounter in the New York hospital, and, much to O'Connor's chagrin, his killing of the beast. Fortunately, his face was not discernable and the bandage over his nose almost made him appear to have been wearing a balaclava.

He was now eating the pie, a particularly delicious one, he noted. Between bites, he wondered whether or not being honest with Eric's wife meant that his government controllers would come down on him. She clearly already knew, didn't she? Besides, your "masters" are just a bunch of bullies in suede denim suits. Relax and eat your damn pie, and be grateful that bullet didn't hit something important. He had taken life on several occasions before, so the fact that his rounds had been fatal didn't worry him. He was already seen by some to be a hero, having saved one man's life (enemy he may be) and bringing justice to the arsonist.

Wonder who he was working for, he wondered. Black Suit didn't seem too concerned about his death earlier. Probably one of the thugs from my information-gathering days, he reasoned.

'Oh, hello. This pie is fantastic."

  16. #256
"Fourth generation recipe. There haven't been any changes in his condition. The doctors say he might have inhaled some ash as well as smoke. He will have some permanent damage to his lungs. Now tell me, Ser Journalist as my husband calls you, almost makes you sound like a knight when you think about it, what did you see?"

He had been on the brink of death and lived so many times that he had failed to consider that the other man may not be so lucky. At once, he set his pie aside and became serious. "In my life, I have been shot, stabbed, bludgeoned... you name it, it's happened to me, and none of it has killed me yet. The people at the SPO are are there because they are tough, serious forces to reckon with." He wasn't sure whether or not he was entitled to say such things, still being on his first day, but he felt it was necessary to comfort the woman.

"It will take more than ash to kill your husband, ma'am."

OOC: You edited your post as I wrote mine.

"What did I see? Fire, a lot of smoke, some dirtbag with a submachine gun. Not much else."

"I know you saw something." She lifted her jacket to reveal a shoulder holster with the pearl butt of a magnum sticking out.
"Now tell me. You saw wings."

    OOC: He wasn't acting.

"Thanks for the feedback. I see what you're getting at here. I assume your next line is 'keep your ☺☺☺☺ing mouth shut or I'll blow your brains out', and I will. What I want in return, though, is for you to find someone for me, a man who goes by James Doe. He lived in Jersey, but he's doubtless skipped town by now. I want him, in a quiet room, and a gun in my hand."

He was getting angry now, but his words were a low, drawn-out growl. "If it weren't for that bastard, I wouldn't be here. I'd have a wife, a family, everything I ever wanted. I'd have no bullet wounds, no dead men on my conscience, none of this..." The fact that the woman before him would probably snap his neck for the tangent didn't even cross his mind.

There was silence for a moment.
"Revenge will only turn you into a monster or worse, take it from some one who has already become one. And tell me this, if Eric didn't slow time, which he can't, who did? I could sense someone was messing with the time stream. You a half, a full, or just a magister who bloomed a little late?"

Secret civilizations were the center of his life for a decade, and everything before that was a haze. He knew of their existence, and a large part of what he did was looking at politicians and trying to find how secret societies could influence their agendas. He knew he had done something unnatural in the gunfight, and he had tried not to think about it. Now here she was, demanding an answer for it, and he had none. The very thought that he could be part of the things he had despised for so long sickened him.

His answer was quiet and weak. "I don't know."

Just like that, his mind shifted from revenge to his past, a time before he had derailed his life. Do I have a family? Are my parents still alive somewhere? Who were my friends... what was my name, for God's sake?

  26. #266

What all do you know that I don't? "...I think so." His gut said something different.

"Well, I'm gonna be out of commission for a while. I've got a busted nose and a bloody hole in my chest, and the doctors have me on some painkillers."

  30. #270
"Indeed. At least the problem with powers is out of the way. Care for another pie? I have some apple I saved for Eric, it's his favorite. A shame for it to go to waste because of this mess. I was originally here to surprise him with some, but then this happened."

"No, ma'am. Save it for him, I'm sure he'll want it when he recovers." He was just happy that the mood in the room had relaxed. Revenge can wait, he told himself. For now, keep your mouth shut.

  32. #272
"Then I have some a new recipe of peach pie." She pulled out a box.
"Have you ever thought that what has happened is a blessing in disguise. My husband would be dead and you in jail or worse."

"Not sure if 'blessing' is the word for it. The damned fire probably wouldn't have happened if I weren't there. I mean, as soon as I saw the guy he pulled a gun on me. Your husband's death was just an indirect consequence of my presence that I was barely able to avert, at least the way I see it.

"Also, the jail part could be coming soon. I haven't heard from anyone on that guy I shot in the face- four times, that won't go over well- and I don't think the men pulling my strings really care enough about my well-being to do anything to keep me a free man."

  34. #274
"Clearly you don't know The Boss. He believes that everyone deserves a second chance, no matter what they have done. After all he did save Eric from death row. A man of media like yourself should know the name you gave him, The Gentleman?"

"I'm not with the media. Not too sure where that idea came from, but it's not true. I'm more of an ex-consipracy theorist, watch dog, information hoarder and unwitting Chinese spy, at least if what they tell me is true, and I wouldn't be shocked if it was.

"Hopefully this SPO will be my safety net, but my government controllers probably won't do much to save me. If the SPO could get your husband off of death row, though, then I guess I'm good to go. Aside from the bullet wound and smashed nose, not much to do about that."

And all I've done so far to climb that ladder is to get the place burnt to a crisp. "Well, I'll have to climb that ladder. Way I see it, this job is the best shot I've got at a semi-normal life now."

OOC: My character doesn't know that

"I got the impression that someone from my past had come back to kill me, but I don't think we're going to get any answers from the hitman."

  40. #280
"Killing is killing no matter what the cause. The fire was a warning. Another mess that Eric is stuck in without me."
