Developer Request - More footage or Demo of Tactical Combat

This is a request for the Developers

After reading a lot of the posts on this forums, there is a common theme coming from the X-com old guard and that is that they are really going to miss the TU's

I personally am in favour of the changes that are happening with X-Com Enemy Unknown and am eagerly awaiting the release

What i think would be great would be either a mission Video showcasing the mission from start to finish in detail or some news on possibly a full tactical demo

I think the actions system will actually improve the flow of combat (also some more info on how the move/action will improve as soldiers do)

    Thanks for your time

Vansar (Veteran 1994, Battle for Earth)

Good luck with that. I'm amazed we've seen even one video. Usually, game releases especially those that claim to be 'major' releases don't give us anything until around E3 time. Fifa 13 for example - you won't see a video about that, or even screens, for months yet - but the game is coming out at a similar time to Xcom EU.

Aye but we can live and hope Sectoidsquisher ;o) It's because i am getting quite sick of the "its not 1994 X-Com" moaning that is the hot topic on lots of these threads.....

I can't wait to get my hands on this game to see what magic the developers are going to breath into this franchaise ;o)

Tell me about it. I'm glad it's not the 1994 Xcom! If I want to play the 1994 Xcom - guess what I'll do? No, I like the look of this new game - although I have some reservations about things like the squad cap. I'm not sorry to see TUs go - they were a functional system, but had a lot of flaws, only having one main base doesn't really bother me - I only ever had one Skyranger anyway and I still beat the game several times. I think Firaxis are thinking outside of the box with this one and like you, I am very much looking forwards to seeing what surprises they have in store for the finished game.

I agree, I had reservations about the game but it looks amazing and seems to play amazing. I cant wait to see a ufo and how that is going to look and play out. Do we still get to investigate the ships! Come on September!

I think we have enough preview on the tactical battlescape. So far the information on the strategical geoscape have been very limited.

We ARE talking about Firaxis here, I'm really exited to see what improvements they can bring to this side of the game.

Pfft. There can never be enough!

I'm not particularly concerned about any particular aspect (like TUs) but I would definitely like to see more footage. It's doubly entertaining. You get more exposure, more tease, and more to drool about, and you also get to enjoy seeing people either completely freak out or write epics speculating based on a 2 second glimpse of something in a video. It's almost as good as the stuff for the upcoming civ expac...where 1 screenshot can launch 10 threads of speculation and violent debate that go on for pages and pages.

Personally I'd like to see some narated and explanatory gameplay footage, step by step, without constant interjections of interview, concept art, whatever.

It would be good to see a complete run of footage from UFO detection through to the end of a battlescape mission.....preferably on a different map.

Of course it would be nice to win the lottery as well but I don't think either will happen any time soon. :P

It would also be nice to get to discover some parts of the game on our own

Indeed. That's one of the problems with the internet - it spoils all the surprises in a game, and it's not very easy to simply ignore the information when you know full well it's there and available for you to look at.

too much teasing will spoil the surprise indeed. Personally speaking, i'd like to see a few more stuff tbh. Well i DO NOT want to see any more aliens that's for sure (meeting new alien species on the field was always my best part when i played the old one at 1st time). Only some interception sequence and a short combat footage (without "demo magic") having some civilians there running around. Nothing more.
Let everything else for the playthrough surprise hehehe ;P

Found a better version of the existing Video

    Gaminglives Video

This shows a bit more of the flow of the combat system

It's just a copy-paste version of the Deep Dive #1 with a horrible soundtrack. =)
But yes, the interview parts are removed.

I agree Heinv, i don't know what "madness" takes over some people when making a video but at least the action parts are put together so we can see a sort of flow.....ish

So far, from the demo footage, I am skeptical that the return fire from the aliens is very lethal at all. The squad takes out like 6+ aliens while only losing one guy, and that was because they put him on a sacrificial run up to an unscouted building. In fact, I didn't see the aliens score a single hit, let alone a kill.
