After talking with MultiPlayerBeast last night, I want to give my opinion on the whole Jr/Sr posting, “elitist”, or whatever you want to call it issue that I feel has been lingering around the forums for a few months now. I’m going to tell it how it is and whether you agree or disagree is up to you.

First off, being good at this is not a life accomplishment. Until someone finds a way to get rich and famous playing CivRev, it is simply a game that we all enjoy. Please keep this in mind.

As others have said, we have no problem with new players joining the forums. We actually encourage it! The only thing we hate is when new players come in with the attitude of, “I’m the greatest ever at this game. Nobody can beat me! I got the Zulu into the top 10!” It happens over and over and over again and it’s really annoying. First, if you have not been part of these forums then you cannot be the best at this game. Period. Why? There is such a collection of knowledge that the learning curve is drastically sped up. Also, you have to play the best to be the best. That’s just how life works. As far as ranked goes, yes you have to have some skill (or cheat) to get into the top 10. However, due to a faulty ranking system, cheating, resets, etc, the best players are not at the top. Not even close. In fact, one could argue that none of the games top 5 players are even in the top 10. Mainly b/c they don’t play as much as they used too. And don’t think I’m just talking about myself. There are better players than me.

Also the attitude of, “you people all suck at this game because all you do is horse rush.” No. We just use the tools the game provides to provide the best possible chance of victory. Simple as that. Just because you prefer winning with tanks does not mean it is your best chance of success.

To the newer posters, I think you will find that if you participate respectfully then there will be no problems. Please feel free to challenge conventional knowledge or strategies. That’s how we progress in our learning. Just be prepared to provide logical explanations to back up your theory.

Two final things. You’re only as good at something as other people tell you. And I still think Mawpawk sucks

I totally agree with you Duke. I haven't posted for a while because i didn't like the feeling I had from recent poster on the forum.

I was under impression that age difference could explain some of the bad attitude I was seeing here recently.

In the end, us newcomers aren't praised for what we have done in ranked. People consistently abuse cheating as if it is their "end of the world" but AGAIN AND AGAIN I STATE, THERE ARE NOT MANY PEOPLE CHEATING AND IF THEY WERE THEY SHOULD SHOWN NUFF BE TRYING TO CHEAT AGAINST ME WITH AS MUCH TAIL I WHOOPED!

20% of the top 10 in either category of ranking I have personally seen cheat. Some even say I cheat... Cheated or cheating now. Everyone has done there mishaps and such but in my reality ranking is something to strive for. If these forums wasn't here, the leaderboards wasn't here... What fun is it to then play civ rev? From what I can tell in the few games I've played you, you have improved a lot. My honest opinion is you can be one of the best players as long as you don't let your attitude get in the way. Learn everything there is to know about the game and play player matches as much as possible. In order to get great at this game you have to "get it" and you definately have the characteristic. Once I lost EITC in a resynch I kind of stopped playing b/c I couldn't get BC tanks anymore haha.

As for my "ego and pride", I feel like other posters talk me up more than I do. I have some nice accomplishments but so do a lot of other members. I know I'm good but I also know I am not nor ever will be the best. I've repeatedly said this. In fact, here are 5 names that are better than me in no meaninful order: Morte, Headless 10, Pedal2Medal2, TyShine, and Thrasher. Ok, maybe not Thrasher . There are also people who I have simply not played against enough to judge. Grizz comes to mind. I haven't played Mawpawk in forever, hes probably better than me by now. Like I said before, you cannot call yourself great. Other people will do that for you.

Ahh thanks for the compliment Duke.....scottie and I both said the same thing about being great last week in the junior vs seniors post.....As for the subject of this thread I agree with svpm to be honest......I tried to come back to the forums a few months ago but the aura seemed so hostile I didnt post or anything for the first few weeks.....

Also, when it comes to rank I feel the same way about it as both multi and duke.......Multi....if civ didnt have rank and/or the forums and tourneys I would have become bored of it quite some time ago.....Duke.....we talked about this the other night....in H2H ranked the only competition...and I mean the only real competition I come into contact with is DigitalPackrat...or sometimes AKAHB.....occaisionally I run into a fellow forum member which raises the competition but overall it is definitely lacking

Oh....and once and for all....for all to see Mawpawk is one of the ELITES ......but he still sucks.....

I haven't played a game of Civ Rev for months or even bothered about the forums. I do agree with JackH and Grizz there has been alot of B.S. talk lately. Were is Pedal when you need him?, If I start playing again and I have no real urge to start playing again, Pedal is who I would like to play against because it's been so long, and he is a top bloke.
I think the hey day of playing this game is slowed down quite a bit, I think late 2008, 2009, 2010, was the Civ Rev heydays, my meaning is all the top players were playing and the competion even in ranked was good compared to today.

First off, if you implying JackHall I'm some noob, high school, reality tv watching, Justin Bieber Chris Brown Rihanna Miley Cirus loving, ignorant minded Call of Duty playing, typical weed smoking, illiterate scum then you wrong! I argued for civs I used that old timers (even simple complainers off these forums) on this forum seem to badger highly! In my defense, I did the modest and humilty route once I started to see that those like you, other Jack, Svpm, Duke, Redaf, Grizzly and some other mentionables were not liking some DEBATE from a newcomer. But it is becoming clear I apparently cared a bit too much concerning the forums and my acknowledgement because whomever else these rants are including don't really give a two flying F#%&$ concerning the veteran posters thoughts.

New players are just as good or maybe even better than old timers. Its funny how the people who criticize rank often are those that make lies of "I been this high ranked" or "I get cheated all the time EVERY GOD DAMN GAME I PLAY". I will say this for the last time and only time too: Leaderboards will always be some measure of skill and give you some record, reward, notice of what you doing against other human competitors. These forums have made a laxed society of playing with no cheating, non-constant overpowered civ using, strategical based competitions, al fun on the table place. I respect that but if there wasnt for some of the posts and threads that newcomers have posted, this forum (civ rev multiplayer) would be dying as even if some of these posts and threads have been repeated within nature of subject, new people aren't going search archives or post to old stuff. I appreciate the tenseness and aggression and personal valor of others. The rest of you veteran posters should do the same.

We love debate...what we dont like is senseless, distasteful sh1t talking.....the stuff I was refering too wasnt just junior posters it was how certain senior posters.....like in the jr vs sr post just acting like total dooshes for no reason than they think they are great....and some jrs too.....you might have misinterpreted.....duke wasnt just refring to jr posters when he said you shouldnt have to tell people you are great, they will tell you.....also....i dont come to the forum to hear people calling other people vag's and talking about how they dont get any...that isnt debate...thats tasteless banter that I could do without....

the reason bringing rank to the forum and demanding respect doesnt work is we know that many of the best people dont play rank...and that many of the best are here at this forum..you have joined this group now multi......you have just gotten to the point skillwise where you now understand why we feel power civ only players arent portraying true talent......its just too easy.....its fun for sure....but too easy.....thats why our friendlys and tournaments are the true way to earn our respect.....but you also know how I personally feel about rank....since you check the boards.....and I do too....congrats on getting up to 8th in FFA......almost in the top 5.....I know it feels good......

I thought Atlantis was great..however I didnt get into the series until ssn 9 of SG1 so I watch both at the same time through reruns.....so I didnt notice how Atlantis just redid a lot of sG1 themes until I finished it all...SGU started slow for me but was definitely on Atlantis's level or better in the 2nd season.....oh why oh why did SyFy give up on its franchise series.....

I can't say I don't get offended when I see a post that seems it includes me in the "jr" poster factor. Many of you sr. posters do come correct and kind with reiterations of what was meant from what was posted or simple consultation. I have my personal issues and take offense to things I misread towards my trying hard to be supreme at and I try to kinda speak for those that won't. But I'm probably making somethings too bigger than what it is or was, ya know. I just always strived to have a name at something... Civ Rev became that.

I can go on for hours talking about Civ Rev. I know I still knew little with my constant use of Zulu and then only using Arabs but truthfully I can say I have a love for them all (except America perhaps). I accept humility for what its worth and criticism too but sometimes I do view things (especially written) in what could possibly be sarcasm. But I get it... I do "get it" concerning the way the wave of this forum has gone especially since my joining and appreciate JackHall and Grizz calm replies to my frustration.

p.s. I am very excited to be number 8 in FFA. I miss being up there and that reset took me from rank 4 to rank 833. Horrible time in my civ life... but I aim to be past Kyodai GT4 but as long as he continue to pound with America once a week... I may never see that far. Probably 2

Tru tru it sucks...I can totally relate though......Morte dropped from #1 in FFA back in 2010 from being reset....I claimed the title a few weeks later for myself(japan) but was also reset from 1st back to 1200 pts a few months later....I totally stopped playing for....well at least a month.........kyodai has been 1st ever since....

the hey day might be past us, but i hesitate to believe the game play was better then just because some players have stepped aside. just like in baseball, people think old time stars like babe ruth and ted williams are better than todays stars. civ players have advanced and perfected strategy since the supposed glory days. that doesn't mean our absent hall of famers wouldn't still be on top if they stuck around, but they would be challenged to dominate against todays top players.

Yes dan there was a lot of cheating back then, city collapsing, barb glitching etc, but alot of people were doing it back then compared to now, and yes the skill level is much higher now. As in "baseball" given time you can only get better.

I remember being crushed by some of the forum greats a few years back only to figure out later how, for example, they knew where my troops were via something we now call adar. Not quite a fair match. To be fair, though, many such matches took place before the forum debates determined such activities as either cheating or quasi-cheating.

Thrasher and Grayson, for example, seemed to have sparkling reputations with everyone. Probably most of them flirted with glitching but then played fairly once the forum decided what was deemed acceptable. But there are a few elites where, imo, it's difficult to disentangle legend from unfair advantages.

It looks like your experience with today's competition is similar. Some of those guys in ranked are beating you not because of talent and skill but instead due to adar and probably a few other things you'll discover.... at least once you know about it you can be more informed about what you need to do.

It looks like your experience with today's competition is similar. Some of those guys in ranked are beating you not because of talent and skill but instead due to adar and probably a few other things you'll discover.... at least once you know about it you can be more informed about what you need to do.

Real talk Zef. I did something in the past that helped me for today. I'm ashamed of it but I befriended someone named Scobert whom the Civ Rev FFA community should know. He no longer plays anymore... or maybe changed his name but he was a huge Zulu player but unique. I can't say what he did or whatever because the forums forbid it. Me becoming cool with him though had me learn what he did to hurt people... I could use to counter or get revenge on someone doing something illegal in Civ Rev to me.

Adar, I would never do something in return to hurt the player for using it on me, because I didn't see what it was doing or knew what it did. Conducting diplomacy is no crime... doing it to find location is though in my book. Doing adar causes for the one committing it to get what he/she deserves for doing it. People who are cool with me do it to me, then I will outright do something of worse nature back... There is almost nothing illegal in this game for someone to do that I don't know. I can't lie... I use to BELIEVE that certain players that people accused of cheating were people I idolize and thought were elite. Perhaps they are or were but only the civ gods know if those who were cheating if they were, didn't cheat... be a elite.

scobert was childs play compared to some others in the past wrt to cheating. Even with some of his 'issues', scobert was beatable (consistently) by normal play.
