Please remove 3rd-party DRM from the Steam version of Borderlands and all of its DLC.

I have emailed Gearbox, posted on their official forum, and tweeted them. I have emailed 2K, tweeted them, and am now here to post on their official forum. The following is, essentially, and open letter to 2K.

Hello, everyone at 2K Games. For the Steam version of Borderlands, two of the DLC items contain 3rd-party DRM, that DRM being SecuROM. The DLC items in question are Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot and The Zombie Island of D. Ned. 3rd-party DRM is unnecessary, as Steam is enough DRM as it is. Since it is against my principles to support any game that uses or has DLC that uses 3rd-party DRM on Steam, I cannot allow myself to buy Borderlands until SecuROM is removed from it and all of its DLC. I know I could easily pirate it, but that is against my personal morals so instead I am doing my best to contact you and Gearbox on this matter.

Why remove this DRM, you ask? Well, there are several reasons. For one, it would get you more sales for Borderlands, its DLC, and Borderlands 2. The removal of SecuROM would receive a very positive reaction from your fans, and would probably earn you many new fans. Another reason is that the store page on Steam for the GOTY Edition does not mention SecuROM, meaning that many people have bought it not knowing that it included 3rd-party DRM. One big thing that separates good developers and publishers from great ones is how much they care about and listen to their fans. Removing SecuROM from Steam Borderlands and its DLC would help prove just how great you all are.

Please, 2K, do this. Remove all 3rd-party DRM from the Steam version of Borderlands and all of its DLC. It would mean so much to me and others. Please.

I hope you respond, but regardless of if you do and what your response is, I hope everyone at 2K Games has a wonderful life. Thank you for your time.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who refuses to buy Borderlands until SecuRom is removed.

SecuRom, language locks, region restrictions forcing certain countries to only play with others within their country...might as well just replace the B2 cover picture with that of a locked medieval chastity belt.

Not sure what your problem is. I'm more than happy with my Secuerom that came with my Borderlands 2. Protesting for the sake of protesting is just weird.

SecuRom is - or at one time WAS - a rootkit.

Uninstall the game, and SecuRom is still there.

    ...

IMO, that's essentially hacking, and I can fully understand why people refuse to buy SecuRom enabled titles..

Umm, so what? Not to sound rude but how is that realistically a problem - at all?

For one, it's the same sort of tricks that virii and malware use.

For two, early versions (maybe current too, I don't know) actually disabled certain hardware devices, like DVD-burners. And even getting rid of the game that it came with, didn't solve the problem. So now, because Product X ever touched yur hard-drive, you are - barring a complete wipe-and-re-install of your entire OS - forever barred from using hardware you paid good money for.

And for three: god damn it, it's MY frelling computer - I paid for it, I own it, I CONTROL IT. Noone, not even God Almighty Himself, puts things on my computr without my knowledge or permission. Nor does anyone put something on my computer that I can't get rid of, when and as I choose. And I mean, get rid of 101% of it.

Meh...still don't get your problem. So what if supposedly 10 years ago securerom disabled a dvd burner. Please provide evidence of anything current blocking anything legit. You're presenting a hypothetical situation that I can't imagine has any bearing or effect on your current system.

If borderlands 2 comes packaged with an anti pirating scheme then so be it. Complaining about this invisible thing seems more about making a point than anything of any worth. So..?bravo? for being so diligent. We're very impressed.

And I don't get yours. honestly, at this point, I'm pretty sure you're just trolling. Because, seriously ... why do you care, if someone else dislikes something?

I for one despise DRM schema that treat me like a criminal by default.

Oh, and complaining about people disliking something, when their dislike has zero effect on you, is somehow .... better?

Bravo to you, sir, in return. I am sure we are all equally impressed. [/sarcasm]
