Sound problem - Help me, please!!!

I installed The Darkness II last Tuesday and it worked perfectly. On Wednesday, I re-installed my Windows 7 and installed all my drivers. I can hear sound from music, videos, films, yahoo!messenger, facebook,... but only when I run The Darkness II, I cannot hear anything in the game. What's wrong with me?

Help me, please!!!

To anyone who is having audio issues on the PC version:

We are currently investigating an issue that some people are having with The Darkness 2's audio, specifically where players' audio device is coming up as "undefined". While we are still investigating it further, the issue appears to be related to incompatible DirectX run-time components. Please try updating DirectX from the following URL:

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35

You may also want to make sure your system audio is set to a setting other than 7.1 surround. The Darkness 2 does not support 7.1, but 5.1, 2.1, or stereo should be fine.


One other thing that you may want to try is to run the game as an administratior.

To do so, right click on the executable, which is DarknessII.exe and scroll down to “Run as Administrator”.

The executable can be found in the following directory:

C:\\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\darkness ii\DarknessII.exe

You can permanently change the permissions of the program by right clicking on the executable, and scrolling down to “Properties.” On the Properties menu, click the Compatibility tab, and check the box at the bottom for “Run as Administrator.”

I'm on a new Mac pro, 10.8 with radeon 5870. Installed darkness II twice via steam. No install errors, but I have no sound at all in game or menu/intro screens. Audio works fine with all other software and steam games. This is a new os installation, not a migrated account/system. It allows me to select any of my audio device options, but none produce sound. I have verified the installation via steam, still no audio. Assistance?
