This was exactly my thought as well. Part of the animation is the throwing of the fishing net which spans out and plops in the water. Get a screen shot at a weird time and some graphical artifacts and you could get an image that allows you to make ink blot guesses all day. I will wait for confirmation before I really believe it's anything other than a good ol' fishing boat.

Article has Pictish Warrior as Celt UU
http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/...kings-preview/ has some additional information on espionage affecting City-States
"Spies are off-map units that must be assigned to specific foreign cities. They earn experience and level up for completing tasks, just like regular units do. The big difference is, you’ll select these tasks from a menu rather than guiding a physical icon’s movements. Once a spy is installed in a city, you’ll start receiving a drip-feed of information about the goings-on in that city and the civilization that owns it. You’ll also be able to influence local sentiments. Spies assigned to a city-state can influence elections that are held every 12 turns, swaying the people more toward allegiance with your own civ. Alternatively, you can have a spy incite a coup with the goal of a total regime change."

These aren't new articles - they've already been analysed.
We've had devs saying flat out there will be new resources. Whether they're bending the truth and calling Jewelry and Tulips "resources" or if they truly mean things like turtles or crabs or whatever... I dunno, but I don't think they'd use the word 'resource' if they didn't mean some kind of new tile.
That's a good point that that COULD be a fishing net being cast, BUT the yellow thing in the middle looks like the net being drawn back into the boat -- which still makes me wonder what is that ring of supposed turtles are. Ripples in the water? No, I don't believe the animation looks like that and the shapes are a bit too uniform. They really do look like flippers and big shells and teeny heads popping out the front, but there's no way to be totally sure. It doesn't look like fish, though.

I was thinking crabs perhaps?
Didn't Civ IV have a bunch of resources that weren't in Civ V? Rice, for one. Crabs, for another. I'd like to see seals up in the snow tiles (or maybe walrus for a more politically-correct alternative).
What the articles mentioned was something along that mercantile CS's would have unique resources (like jewelry) that can't be had otherwise. Also, it was mentioned thatt they could be sold.
Omg, last week the thought struck me that those polders (that we saw in screenshot) were going to produce tulips as a new luxury that only the Dutch could trade...! BUT I DIDN'T POST IT!!! Why oh why didn't I post it?! Right that's it, anytime I get any ideas, I'm not going to hesitate in posting them...They can develop polders that generate extra food and tulips that can be traded.
Anyway, I think it sounds pretty awesome. Can't wait to play as the Dutch![]()
Ive been thinking on this, and if they get another luxury... what's that? +4 Happiness they can do whatever they want with? Persia and Egypt gets +2 Happiness per city for free... so I guess that's really not very broken, is it? Granted the more Tulips you have, you can trade those away for 240g or for another Luxury which would give another +4 Happiness, plus positive relations with rival Civs from trading...
I guess it's not really THAT powerful. Arabia can make something-for-nothing trades with their Bazaars giving them dupes of all the Luxuries they own, so it's not exactly unprecedented. Man, that's just really weird!
German article:
"We switch now to the Netherlands with their leader King Willem of Oranje. Their special ability is the East India Company - a company, which helps the Netherlands to bring their luxuries into trades without losing any Happy. They also have the "Sea Dagger", a unit, which can plunder cities at the coast, and the Netherlands can also build Polders, which they can use to gain new land and which protects them from floods."
Translation from CivFanatics.
Nice.
The UA sounds like almost the exact same I had in mind. My idea literally was ''The Dutch will retain 50% happiness of exported luxuries and get 50% extra happiness for imported luxury resources''.
The units; wouldn't those be Sea Beggars, known and famous in Dutch as (Water)Geuzen, instead of sea daggers (I would understand the confusion of beggar vs dagger). Btw, I also had those in mind instead of the East Indiaman. I originally thought a bonus against cities would be fitting or even being able to capture cities (this was way before the announcement of the expansion, so I didn't know melee ships were added anyways). I even mentioned them a few days ago.
Anyways, the Dutch sound great, tulips FTW.
Wow. The dutch are increasingly looking to be very powerful (not unlike in Civ IV)! Theyll probably end up becoming my favourite civ. I would like to learn more about the Maya; we dont know anythign about them, except Pacal being their leader and their UA being somehow attached to the calendar...

I wonder if that means Netherlands can import a luxury from one Civ and export it to another, all while still benefiting from the +4 Happiness?
I doubt it. IIRC if you have e.g. no Gold and ally with two city-states that provide it, you can't trade 1 away. Same with strategic resources, I think. The game knows how much is actually "yours." It sounds more like they have a civ-wide bazaar that makes only 1 copy per luxury.
Actually, they have! Pictish Warriors are in the Civs section, and the short Espionage writeup specifically states you can rig City-State elections. I'll add a sentence clarifying that Spies must be assigned to a specific city if you like.
Thanks, zephyrtr. I was looking in the new units section and missed seeing them in the Civs section. The article also mentioned that spies stage coups.
Has the statue of David been confirmed outside of the boxart?
I don't think David being on the box really means anything. It's just an iconic image that represents human culture, i.e. civilization. I don't think it necessarily means you can build it as a wonder.
I know, that's why I questioned it
Being someone who was made to watch every episode of Deadliest Catch I can assure you boxes are used to catch crabs and the more I think about it the less they look like Turtles and the more they resemble crabs. Why turtles but no crabs? That's like adding Siam and then making Mongolia a DLC. Oh wait....
Great idea. the snow tiles has no bonus nor luxury resources (apart from stone and str.res.) There could be something added.
Heh, cool! Reminds a lot the idea that was listed a long time ago:
The new Dutch description about Polders doesn't mention the tulips? Now I'm confused.. :P
Damn. It looks like the Dutch will be a new A level civ, at least. Maybe it'll contest with China and Germany for S level.
@ Tahitian Moon
It seems to me that all info regarding the uniques should be taken with a grain of salt. Especially the Dutch - they seem to be the only one that everyone's got too many ideas on.
Another page on the same German site as above mentions Research Agreements:
Which roughly translated means RAs now only available with 'good friends', (I'm presuming they mean a DoF), making it something special, something precious - and easy prey for a third party spy.
This should make being friends a well considered decision, and cut a lot of backstabbing. It will also mean you yourself can set your spies onto Civs that have DoFs running, get the best deals.
I suspect much was lost in translation. It looks like they can trade luxuries while retaining the happiness. Hopefully, this means that AI civ's will actually be much more amicable to trading than they currently are. The translation about polders was the most curious part. "Gain new land"? Does that mean they can turn water tiles to land? And protection from floods? Does that mean we're getting disasters?
Which Civ gave us Sydney Opera House? Or Cristo Redentor? Or Angkor Wat? Spawning a world wonder doesn't make you a good candidate to become a Civ.
I think since they're adding the Leaning Tower, they're trying to make sure the stuff on their boxes are actually in the game. Maybe it's something, maybe it's not.
I don't know. With David, the scale just seems off when thinking of it as a wonder and we already have the Sistine Chapel. Ah who knows, I'm not against it, but it feels odd.
I'm with those who think it's just representative and doesn't indicate it's going to be introduced as a Wonder in the actual game.
It would be nice if Great Artist landmarks appeared as baby Statues of David - but I can't see them changing the art at this point.
Almost every Civ game / Expansion had some Wonders in the box art, like the Sphinx, but were never in game. (Especially the Sphinx has bugged me why it has always been left out!?)
Germany and China haven't been S level for a long time. The Dutch certainly look interesting though.
Part of me thinks they'll just end up being a naval Arabia. The ship UU is a real shame. I expected it, but I hate naval units. It might turn me off the Dutch, depending on how good/bad their other uniques are.
Stealing money is all well and good, but can't we already do that through pillaging with melee units? I guess the ships will be a little more versatile.
They've got to have something that's not OP, why not something that's getting a huge boost?
2K Games need to throw us another bone if we are going to get any more meaningful insights into Gs & Ks.
Come on!!!!![]()
I'm not suggesting they should get an OP unit, but what's wrong with wanting a unique pikeman or something? Also, their UI is very powerful, but their UA (so far as we know) isn't much better than the Arabian bazaar. It's a solid boost, but it won't make them A-S tier on its own.
Well... we need more naval civs. Especially with the overhaul of the naval combat system, don't assume your feelings about boats NOW will stay the same AFTER the expansion. Also, BGM is right. They're allowed to have better than average uniques, but not ALL of them can be better than average. Babylon's a prime example of this (AMAZING UA, junk UB and UU)
