That's not true. When they are going for there second city they are usually moving their stronger defensive force present in their city. Go read GOTW thread. They always walks out with archer army when they can, leaving their caps with single archer or warrior.

The exception is mongol barb town.

Yes I have have this happen to me more than amount of fingers on my two hands (I have 5 on each people). They normally will pay you to do it if they have enough money; normally over 50 and they are at war if you conduct diplomacy. Also, I experimented and seen that you have to go to war with the AI two times for the AI to eventually have another player (after player conducts diplomacy) to go to war with you for a price. Its like that personality thing they mention in civilopedia... they have personalities and if you betray their trust that they may be more hostile towards you.

Speaking of which I notice that 4 civs will rarely yield to threats even early on with no one in their city... Zulu, Aztec, Mongolians and Germans.

Well I think that Chug said it with post earlier...

    Egyptians V.S. Chug Japan

Not much to say, settled 3 turns in next to 2 desert 1 tree and barb I get colossus. He settles 3 turns away, I can see his outline and he only has 1 tree and no water guess he thought he could walk in, which he would've if I didn't get colossus. So he declares war and walks in my desert, I am across the river and the barb is across the river from me. I barely have enough to rush next turn, he tries to walk in but I rush it quicker than him because it was my host so he retreats. He attacks barb next turn and gets hurt with his single warrior. Anyway I end up winning with my second warrior .5-.5 and get caravan and sell it 4 30 gold. He quits I win. He said it was glitchy because it sent his cursor up to the ice caps.

    Romans V.S. Chug Russians

He takes out Japan very early before I settled. Then at 3500 he gets 7cog, great... Well, it looks really bad but I run into Arabs and get lucky enough to get a walk in at 2900 and get fundy. I research HBR, then build horsemen and take out barbs around me after I switch to fundy. So, I end up getting two vet HA I am attacking his 100g city I think, destroying loyalty archers. He keeps rushing them but finally once my second vet HA arrived I was able to take it and both my HA upgraded to march. Before I took it I moved my second HA to block both trees then attack but I saw his non vet HA bottom right so I attacked it. He asked how I knew it was there I said I didn't was just moving to block trees then saw it. So I am in fundy most the time, he built some legions to counter my HA's and destroyed 1 but my other 1 was back waiting for his counter. Any way, long story short he gets monarchy first, GB's Samurai Castle then switches to fundy as well. He has knights and starts attacking I build vet HA out of Rome, (I built a Barracks there). I have an AA on a hill at a bottle neck, he takes back his 100 g city then sends his KA and AA to attack my AA hill with vet HA on it as well. I win 21-27, bad beat for him, I then take out his AA with my vet HA. I use my other horsemen and walk into his empty 100g city and reclaim it. He quits and says "enjoy this glitchy aasss game" I win. Don't know why he quit, maybe he didn't have enough gold to keep up with how many units I could put out? I only had 8 tech without a library he could have come back, I'm surprised he quit I guess that 21-27 loss put him over the edge...

    Just sounds like ultimate frustration.

Settling a suspect spot in the hope of a walk-in, then it not working out.

Losing against the odds, again frustrating, but those happen all day long, It wasn't massively against the odds.

He declared war on them 2 or 3 turns before me so I'm pretty sure they were rushing units to Madrid before there 100 g city. Ohh and Rem you might have gotten Demo, I sold it to them for 25 in case you did take Madrid lol.

Also, if you happened to take Madrid I would've abandoned the 100g city, (since it was nothing special with only 1 tree and running into Madrid) and taken out Deli. Regardless, it was very disappointing and frustrating to say the least.

I can't even begin to explain the glitches that were going on all game. Just stupid $hit that sets you back. I made a couple bone head mistakes too, which set me over the edge. I could've kept fighting. I had 18 techs to your 9, but I was so frustrated that I didn't want to play anymore... ever....

    yeah.. copy that dan.

I'm way out of the running, but would still enjoy getting the games in.

I've got two with REM, one with ID and two with Chug. If Chug is tapping out, I'll just look for REM and ID so at least this bracket can continue on. REM, let me know when you think you've got a window and I'll try to make myself available..

ReM walked into Greece with HA on our second rematch. This game is very frustrating and I agree with Chug to be honest... If we didn't freeze on our first game I would have done VERY well, instead, because of a freeze I lose to a walk in...

we all know freezes are possible in any match. if we were playing for money it would be worth getting truly upset about it.

True, it is just a game, but I dislike losing, especially because of stupid reasons... Not the HA walk the freeze.

I got 3 games in last night: 2 vs. turtle and 1 vs. Itz Deni3d

1st game vs. turtle: Egyptian mirror match

I settle 1st turn w/ 2 deserts and 3 forest and get HGB - not bad! Start pumping out warriors. One or two turns later turtle settles and I can see his outline 4 squares to the NE of me. So I start sending warriors over and we meet. I retreat one warrior and try to sneak around a single mountain. Catch turtle with my WA when he was trying to work on a barb across a river and kill 2 of his warriors with my army. Get wounded twice and he takes my WA out 1.5 vs. 1.5. Ok, I had more coming. I walked another single warrior around the mountain in the other direction and caught him when he moved his warrior out of the cap. Button race is a tie, so his warrior attacks mine defending his cap 1 vs. 1.5 and I win and finish taking the cap. REM018 wins.

2nd game: My Indians vs. turtle's Russians.
This game took a little longer. I did a strange move settling on coal the first turn for the free warrior, but with only one water tile. I figured I would get my 100g quickly enough to justify the trade off. Worked out fine and I settled my 100g city on spices/dye and 2 trees. Pumped out 2 horse armies, took Athens for demo and choked of turtle's path to me with a vet WA on a hill. Later he took out Spain, but did not get Nav. I took out Rome on my way to him. I expanded a little and teched to cats/nav. Turtle made a surprise attack with his HA that he shipped around along the south pole, but chose the city that had 2 horse armies, pikemen and a cat army next to it ... I build a galleon and ship all that stuff over to him and GB Sam's castle while in fundy. My CA took out his vet and/or loyal AA in cap and he quits. REM018 wins.

Game 3: My Russians vs. Itz Deni3d's Greek.
I move two turns and decide to settle with no barb or friendly in sight in a oxen/plains/2 tree/3 water spot. I liked the oxen :-) Turned out ok since my first warrior discovers a friendly around the corner and the 2nd warrior reveals 2 barb huts - so all good. While I was working on both huts, I teched HBR, but saw that ID got it 1 turn earlier than me - so he is going the aggressive route. The turn before my injured warrior can take out one of the barb huts, he shows up with a horse and switches to anarchy. I decide to sell the warrior and get a horse out myself. He did not know that there was a barb hut and moved in a different direction. I took down this and the other barb, got a HA together and moved it towards him. He had no scouts in place and sends his horses in a different direction, so I walked in unseen from the SE diagonal. REM018 wins.

That was a productive set of games for me ;-)

I got 3 games left, 2 w/ Redaf and 1 with Chug E. My remaining civs are Japan, Germany and Greece. I will probably be online today after 1 pm EST and until 6 pm EST.

Won't be home Saturday, but could play either Friday until 8 pm EST or Sunday from around 12 pm to 6 pm EST.

    Exclamation

Ya know this whole thing with Chug quitting civ is malarchy man. That is a very unsporting and bad move to up and quit especially when he dedicated himself to a tourney. I knew out of one of us someone punk out and call excuses because they lost. Same people make excuses about ranked matches and cry that they don't give a care about rank because freezers, glitchers or game flaws ruining their record but I don't let that mess stop me from playing one of the best dang games ever. It has its issues... plenty but over 100,000 people still play this game despite the garbage that can happen in a match.

Chug... I thought you were more stand-up than what you depicting now. If you going to leave then at the least play your last games of the tourney. Or be known to be a quitter when the fire is a blazing but you still have a freaking hose to douse it with. I'm PI$$3D OFF!

Thanks dan, you a great guy! I consistently run my mouth about these tourneys but I think people afraid to commit to things, let alone sign up to a forum. Can someone give me some icebreakers to get people stirred up about the forums and its different contests?

id be a little pissed 2, i spend a small amount of time allocating particular civs vs my brackets opponents 2 maximise my chances of making the final cut, so if some1 was 2 leave it would give an unfair advantage 2 those yet 2 play the quitter, just a thought.....

also i think we should rename these tourneys....world championship sounds alot more enticing than ;round robin

Just play like a kitten in the 1st game and those elite knights are going to stay in the supply closet for my game with Chug E (if that ever happens ...) And never underestimate the power of stone henge Egypt - once you find 7cities, AW, SoC and AoC, you are pretty much unstoppable ;-)

Ok fine I'll finish the tourney. And Multi, it wasn't because I lost. I lost all motivation to play the game period. It just isn't fun anymore and I'm not going to waste my time on it. Games that don't work properly make me very angry and I don't like to get very angry. I know it's just a game, but my time is valuable to me and wasting countless hours on this game isn't enticing to me anymore. I'll finish all my games this weekend so I can officially put the game down for a while.

Honestly tho, I picked the game back up a while ago thinking they were going to come out w/ a 2nd Civ Rev. That's not going to happen, so I'm done w/ this glitchy ars game.

Not too much or he'll get stuck in the final... or maybe the game would become more interesting then...
