    Activation on Steam Problem

    Hello,

I bought the PC Uk Retail-Version of The Darkness 2,
but everytime I try to activate the key on Steam, I get this error message:

    Not Available

Sorry, but the following items are not available for purchase in this country.
    Your purchase has been cancelled.
    Is the UK-Version regionlocked?

    Here the same.
A EU product that does work in the EU.
    bravo Steam, as always.

Please 2K, at least you could help?

You can't even install a game you bought legally!! I bet the "others" don't have the problem.

Luxemburg, so not because of German laws, and even in Germany it should be redeemable if bought retail, In Germany 18+ titles, indexed are forbidden to be advertissed and it's not forbidden to be imported and/or played.

Steam should really rethink their philosophy about this! I understand the russian code thing. But this is Europe! I will think now again twice before buying a steam game

Ok I also wrote this to my steam ticket:
if this problem doesn't get resolved in a resonable delay (today), this was the last 2K game and last Steam game I bought. And then the industry complains about piracy, but has no problem pissing off legimate buyers.
get your products straight first!!! Otherwise I (and others) will vote with our wallets! Look what happend in the past to Rare,... Don't f*** over your customers
    I want an answer asap

    Getting angry now.
2K: We've paid good money for this game - Please help us play it!

  11. #11
At first I thought that problem was for Germans only, but apparently the activation seems to be completely broken, so they obviously have to fix it.

Would be really nice to hear some official statement, though. Wrote Steam support, wrote a PM to David, but no one seems to be responding.
At least something along the line of "We're looking into it, please be patient" would be nice...

I have this game since Saturday and can't do anything with it, besides reading the (really REALLY great) comics, you can obtain via the limited edition, but I'd really like to play the game...ASAP.

Same problem here in germany! I've paid for the game, i'm old enougth (30 years!) to play it nut it seems that nobody is interested in helping us to solve the problem!

Hey there, guys. The team is looking into the issue currently.

In the meantime, we definitely recommend that people purchase the game in their own territory, as importing can lead to complications such as this.

I've sent a few of you a private message requesting a bit more information about your copy of the game.

When, if ever, will we get notified that we can actually play the games we bought?

You don't seem to know the German version. I would not pay a single dollar or euro for this torso of a game!
Because of that I bought the English version, but I'm not able to activate the key on Steam right now.
There is no reason for a region lock. It's absolutely legal for Germans to play the uncut version of this game.
Blocking other countries by accident is even more ridiculous.

Thank you for your reply David. I hope your team has an easy way of fixing this issue.

But I have to say, I would never buy the german versions of these games.
As Shark Bait already said: It's a torso of a game, and not even that. As a european grown up, I have the right of importing my uncut games. My advice for the game developer would be, to get in contact with german politicians and explain em, how the rest of europe is dealing with it and that the german market economy suffers from handling german gamers like minor babies.

And something extra: German games with less content (because of being cut) are mininum +15 Euro more expensive. Pay more for getting less. I'm sorry this will never be supported and I doubt and hope the gaming community in Germany will ever do so.

It is the Darkness we are talking about. Take out the violence and the horror of the game and maybe as well (like in SR2) some skills. What will be left? Mafia1?

^I doubt the german legislation will ever change. "Your" politicans and public opinion (which is guided by a few papers (bild, spon,..) on violence is too square.

But as you said it is your absolut right to buy a European product and that is absolutly necessary that it works within the EU. That's one of the fundaments of the EU. In German it's called "Binnenmarkt".

Therefor the Steam key locks are not really legal (on Eu level), and that would change if a German takes it to the court.
The same applies of reimports of car within the EU (grey imports), it pisses off auto maufacturs but is legal!

Thanks 2k for looking into it. But as others said it is within our rights to import it from Uk, and if it is for the gore, language or whatever reason.
In the US is the same, a game bought in Texas should and will work in Cali.

I hope you find a quick solution because as you seen people are upset by this, and those who wrote in here are just a minority of thoes who imported it.

In Slovenia still dont work but in evey store selling this game and most of people dont know that this game dont work.
Why is this locked??I dont understand.

  26. #26
    Hey,
I'm from germany and I have the same problem with my retail uk edition of the game... I just don't know what to do... wait and hope that there will be a solution so I can play in the near future?
Or should i box that whole thing up, send it back to amazon and never play the game?
It just would be nice to hear from 2k or Steam if we will be able to play the uk version of the game soon or if we have to send it back...

One thing for sure: This was my last 2k game and pretty sure the last one that uses steam...

  27. #27
I have the same problem. I preorder the game and arrive today, and when I open it and type the code into steam it says that this game is not available in my country...
Are you serious, guys? I bought borderlands with ALL the DLC's, plus BIoshock 1 and 2, and I really enjoyed them, and now, I save my money long time to buy this game and what I have is a region lock?
I would be very glad to hear something from you, guys...

It's really annoying that these nice games always get censored in Germany... I would also never buy the german version, so I got the AT version, this one is also uncut and worked immediately and it's even in german. So if you're still lokking for an uncut version I suggest to buy the AT ( Austrian ) version, for all germans of course... I don't know if that version would be in swedish in Sweden for example...

People are complaining on the steam-forums as well. Apparently the steam support answered with something like:
"the error message indicates a territorial restriction and that territorial restrictions are noted on the packaging of the game and that steam support cannot change these restrictions and that I should contact the reseller for a refund."

You can find this comment here: http://forums.steampowered.com/forum...2536987&page=2

There is no information on the packaging, of course! Steam is just trying to avoid work.

  30. #30
Of course there is no info about that on the case... What is happening here? Also, as I have said on a post in this section, on the FAQ page of steam support about The Darkness II says that the retail version of the game cannot be register on steam...

At the 2 last post: WOW!!
That is hillarious in a bad way.
As I said above, EU law clearly states that goods sold in the EU, should work in all EU.
As exemple: PayTV. EU court decided that you can buy PayTV cards in the EU in an other country (for less €) and that I should work in your country and that is not illegal.
    This is the same.
I clearly goes against EU law. Multi million companies should know their enviromment in which they want to be active.

Lolxd17: Some people want the english sound and then there is also the price difference.

I am not gonna state the obvious here, but if we can get helped here or at steam, go look somewhere else. We bought it, they made their money of it, now you are entiteled to play it.
The excuss that we are responsible for buying an import Good just shows how they see their customers (we already paid so they couldn't care less), that they don't know legislation abroad of the US,...

    **** Steam, 2k, ACTA.
No specOps, Xcom,... gonna be bought, your loss 2k. Gonna play Bf3 with the spyware Origin (grounded in the sandbox).
And then your industry cries that nobody plays or buy your games.
Change your philosophy 2k or your going the way of Rare, ubisoft, thq, activison,...

I will do that, but need to wait that steam activates my forum account (never posted there)

Wow, I never saw that I need to wait that long to post in a forum!

Doesn't improve my opinion on steam.

    Will wait a bit more...

Maybe they know a ☺☺☺☺storm is coming?

  34. #34
Actually, that's normal. Late on 2011 I create for the first time an account and I had to wait over a day, I think... Hope this will be fixed by tomorrow, but maybe I'm a bit optimistic...

Ok I will try again then tomorrow.

And what i said is true, I studied International Business, though I believe there is no jurisprudence on this, thus it would need to go to the EU court. But it is surely not in accordance with EU law.
