Thread: How to check if city-state is under major protection before getting friendly or ally?

  1. Question How to check if city-state is under major protection before getting friendly or ally?

it hapens to me many times when gifting a gold to city-state to become ally with them, then next turn or two some AI says "hey back off, this city-state is under my spare of influence!" or something like that.

I know AI will publicly pledge protection for citiy-state for example at turn 16 but that means we have to remeber that trough whole game
for example you become ally at turn 466 and then AI says "hey back off" (lol what to say back to him? hey dude you pledge was 200 years BC.

there are many CS and many AI's so to remeber their public declarations from the past is not pretty easy.
also if declaring war on CS we get no notification about major protection do we?

is there some overhead for this?
    thanks in advance.

The CS screen with the Declare War button will tell you who (if anyone) the CS is allied with, and then the confirmation pop-up tells you if they are under one or more AI's protection

  3. oh thanks, I didn't notice that since I almost never declare war on CS, also is there some trick to track which AI's pledged to protect some CS in case when gifting gold? ... to avoid "back off" proposal

    Click "Declare War" then "No"

Failing that, try the Info Addict mod - don't play with it myself but if it's not in that I'd be surprised.

Usually, you can check to see if they have any current alliances. Also, paying attention to the log will show who has previously been allied to a CS. That could be a good indicator of who's already invested.

As far as I know, info addict doesn't contain that information, though.
