pause menu stuck

I just bought the game on steam and when I play new game I can only hear sound of the cutscene with a black screen yet I press pause and then take pause menu back off the pause menu is still showing but the cutscene sound starts playing again. If I tap the pause button quickly I see flashes of the cutscene video . This problem also happens during the gameplay. I am using a nvidia 460 graphics card if that helps.
