No, not really. I thought my points were valid, and I didn't come here to troll or start an argument.

"Who's that trip tramping over my bridge?"
Thanks for the info Greg. Looking forward for all these. Hopefully we will get some sort of preview or interview from the dev team soon(ish). What I am mostly waiting for is the info are there going to be any new Civilizations/Leaders released?
Seconded! Something I would definitely want to see being done.
Good news, Ive been wanting the option for the server to toggle animations on/off since the game came out, will finally play multiplayer now.
I'm going to be frank, I've waited over a year for this. Honestly I gave up hope but I'm glad to see it's finally being done. Once this is in place I'll start playing Civ V again and will be buying the DLC I've held back from. I bought Civ V for the multiplayer, and lacking animations had made it unplayable for me and my friends.
I'm looking forward to this, but I'm not giving up a red cent until this is put in, no matter how many months it takes, no matter how many cool new features will be made beforehand. This is priority one for me and my friends.
So yes, I'm excited for this, but annoyed that it took so long post launch.
Hey 2K Games, I just wanted to come back and give you guys a huge THANK YOU for doing this! We have been waiting for this for some time, and I am very excited to see it make its way to Civ V.Would love to hear some hints as to when this may be released, even ballpark?
Awesome news.
This is great news indeed. I also bought Civ V to play it with my other half, but we were completely put off by the lack of animations and after playing for about an hour we gave up and haven't touched it since. It just wasn't enjoyable.
But now I hope that we can actually get to play. Certainly news I've looked forward to hearing.
Thank you![]()
I bought the game to play multiplayer, not really anything else.
We quickly got tired of barbarians and other units randomly teleporting into our territory from some unknown direction and having to guess what they've been doing and what they're going to do based on next to no visual information. It felt like a major step back compared to a system that we felt worked perfectly in Civ 4.
There were also other aspects of multiplayer that we disliked, such as the poor AI compared to SP, but the animations were the biggest issue.
It's a big problem if you don't play competitively and just want to have a bit of fun in your own time.
Why on Earth is that "unfair"? It's why I (and every Civ player I know, about 5) never bothered with MP. It's a completely valid priority/preference.
That's like saying "Who cares what your RPG character looks like or if the armor and weapons look cool? As long as you have good stats, none of that matters." I don't think many immersion-focused RPG players would agree with that either.
Hey, diff'rent strokes, right?
My point was simply that I find it strange someone would give up Civ 5 multi-player altogether because they miss combat animations, as if they have ever been a genuinely substantial part of the game. It's not like you're at any sort of disadvantage, or there's a massive hole in the game. If you bought Civ 5 - a great game, as we here all know - and then booted up multi-player only to find you couldn't have two-second combat animations, and then decided to stop playing multi-player altogether for that reason then I'd say you were fickle. In fact, I think fickle is a pretty good word for it.
I mean sure, it's his/her choice (as I say, diff'rent strokes) but it doesn't change the nature of what I've said.
Incidentally, I think stethnorun is under the impression that I shouldn't say something purely on the basis that it may have offended him because he disagrees with it? I am assuming that's not actual forum policy.
Thank you for making them optional! Y'alls rock!!
Well, as a matter of fact, you are wrong. In the same way that character creation and armor style is a substantial part of RPGs. You have very little understanding of why games are fun for a large percentage of players. And the sad thing is, you would rather remain stubborn and ignorant. *shrug* That's your character problem to deal with.
You can say "TO ME, it has never been important" That can be truthful, and anecdotally relevant if still not terribly helpful.
But you can not say "IT IS NOT important, because I do not care about it." That is terribly self centered, at best.
I turn off animations too, because I prefer a quick-paced game to a pretty one. We are not wrong for doing so, or for thinking it superior... for us. But not everyone shares our goals, our motives, our idiosyncrasies. That does not mean they are wrong any more than it means we are.
A million kagillion thanks for this, 2kGreg!! Just found this post now. I've been dying for this feature ever since day one, when I bought like 4 copies of Civ5 for me and the family...at which point they immediately started gathering dust when I realized multiplayer animations weren't in and they'd never be able to follow a multiplayer game.
I've since moved four hours away from home but rest assured I'll be finding them and dusting them off once this is released, as a result. Thanks!
YES! I cant express how excited i am for this! My friends and I thank you! This is gonna help the immersion of our co-op games immensly
Okay you dodged a bullet there. I only made this account to give a mediocre internet-idiot whoopass rant about the state of multiplayer, but seems that FINALLY you are doing what you were supposed to do from the start. Please keep in mind for such (forgive me) ☺☺☺☺ ups in the future title releases
Anyways, thank you for doing something for the issue.

But as a stupid medium internet user I have to complain about the fact that you are making a 'DLC' which includes religion. Seriously? Shoudn't that been in the first release crying out loud. But noooooooo "this trend we drop some features from original game to make you pay for features they've should been in the first place (because it was in final Civ4)"... Bugs me... A LOT. The next dlc after that: corporations?
Well let's wait to get them animations and then find something else to complain about (I have a feeling about multiplayer comps, but just can't say yet because haven't played enough).![]()
There's no reason to claim religion should have been in V to begin with just because it was in IV, nor that they deliberately left it out so they could put it in the expansion. V was an entirely new game, with a new direction. The chose to leave it out of Vanilla because they felt it wouldn't work with the diplomacy system. There are tons of features in one game that never show up in sequels.
Hey, any word as to an ETA for this yet? If Gods and Kings comes out in June...could it be that this'll be here for vanilla Civ5 in as early as about 2 weeks from now?
Hey guys! This is great news! If this gets done then I will go on steam and buy allll the DLC, a gesture of thanks to 2K!
I might be wrong but its coming out around this month right? (Now being a couple of months down range from the first post) Anyone know any dates?
Sooo June 19th came and went. Is this ever going to happen?
Really? When did that happen? I looked over all the patch update notes on Steam and there's no mention of it:
http://store.steampowered.com/news/?...es&appids=8930
I looked through all the patch updates on Steam and didn't see any mention of it. But I'm glad it went through.
It was the 14th June update - while it isn't mentioned there, other things related to the animations are.
Or, you know, you could have read stuff on this forum talking about it. Or just tried it to see if it worked.
