i cant play SP or MP without the disk in the dvdrom please remove the disk check

ok so i bought the retail version of bioshock 2 on amazon great game an all but this is stooping me from enjoying the game i cant even play the single player campaing without the disk on the dvd tray which is annoying as hell ...

why don't this game uses the unique key attache to the user email system like ea does to confirm the customer identity ???

the game launch years ago so why haven't this "legal customers restriction has been removed yet " while pirates enjoying the game without any of this problems

in case you are wondering this is proof that im a legitimate customer

I'm not sure if there is an update that removes the disc check from the game, but there might be one online somewhere.
I cannot say where as you'll have to look for it and half the time, they don't work. It also has to do with the legality of them as well.

Why should they release a fix, when there is no problem? You bought a retail copy of the game. The game installs some data to the hard drive, and loads other data from the disk. Because data is loaded from the disk, the disk must be present. Digital versions, such as one bought from Steam, do not require a disk to be present because of the method of distribution. Games bought at retail and come on disk have always required the disk to be present for as long as I can remember (at least 15 years).

But I recall that you can activate a retail key on Steam and get the digital copy.

sir you seem to be new a pc gaming, pc games are installed complety on the hard drive it does not load anything from the disk "in this case it just check for the original disk " since i own "Battlefield 3 , battlefield bad company 2, medal of honor and Hawx retail version and none of them force me to have the disk in the dvdrom in other to play only bioshock 2 they all use unique key linked to an email acc so yes this problem needs a fix.

ps : im also a proud owner of hawx 2 and assasins greed 2 which use the infamous "always online" ubisoft drm but guess what!? even that is less painful than having the dvd on the dvd room always, also ubisoft patch it and now it LETS YOU PLAY OFFLINE in case you don't have internet access

Not with BioShock. The only titles that can do this are listed here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...7480-WUSF-3601

Apparently you overlooked where I mentioned I've been gaming on PC for at least 15 years. No, PC games are not completely installed onto the hard drive. I have an entire box of PC games that would love to say hello to you. You purchased a retail copy, which came on a DVD-ROM. The DVD-ROM check is there both to do a disc check (anti-piracy), as well as load any data not installed to the hard drive. Because your copy of the game is doing just this, there is no problem. The purpose of the CD-Key is not to allow play without the disc, but another method of anti-piracy protection. Nearly all PC Games come with them anymore.

Also, just because Ubisoft issued a patch for their games, does not mean 2K will, or even should. What likely happened is that Ubisoft removed or altered their DRM in the game, and in doing so allowed for offline game play.

I activated Prey on Steam since my dvd wouldn't work and used its CD key couple years ago.The DVD itself is scratched, but repairable. It got that way due to my last dvdrom giving me errors.

Prey is one of the few exceptions to that list, primarily because it isn't a Steamworks title. But it has been confirmed that BioShock and BioShock 2 are not Steamworks titles, and do not activate on Steam. I know, because I asked 2K Elizabeth myself before buying BioShock to ensure I had a Steam-compatible version.

this is what im fearing !! my DVD is dying and when it does i wont be able to play the game anymore if so, this will be my last game from 2K or any other company that force into using this method of anti-piracy which only affects legitimate customers.

and mr nbajammer remember that hawx and neither one of the EA games that i mention force me into having the disk into the dvdrom in order to play it even though they are one of the most played MP games nowadays

If the problem is your DVD drive, you'll probably need to purchase a new one if it is in fact dying. If not, contact technical support of your PC manufacturer, especially if it is under warranty. They should be able to resolve that issue. If the problem is with your DVD itself, contact Support. I believe they have mentioned a disc replacement process on here more than once. It might cost you a nominal fee, but I believe they will replace the disc with a new one. My copy is a digital copy from Steam, so I don't use a disc to play.

Also, just because 2 or 3 games don't require a disc doesn't mean PC games in general don't. For all I, or anyone else, knows your games might have been digital downloads which naturally don't require a disc in order to play because of the method of delivery. PC games, in general, require data to be installed from the disc and the disc in the drive. The exceptions to this are those bought from Steam, or which can be activated on Steam when purchased retail. As I note above, there are some exceptions to this - such as Prey - because they aren't Steamworks titles. Unfortunately, neither BioShock nor BioShock 2 is purchaseable at retail and registerable on Steam, so if you want to play those without a disc you will have to buy a downloadable version from Steam or one of the other online retailers.

while i understand all you are saying i just wish they give people who bought the retail version the option to download a digital one just like EA is doing with origin with all their games ....

this just makes me buy real sad in a way, some devs after the game is shipped just don't care about supporting their games anymore and moved on into their next project without solving their customers complains and leaving their old game to die

The only way they can do that is if the game uses Steamworks - fortunately 2K's latest games (Duke Nukem Forever, Mafia II, I believe Darkness II) all have it. I saw BioShock Infinite on Steam for preorder. So hopefully Infinite will utilize Steamworks. If it does, you should be able to register the key with Steam and download from Steam where you won't need the disc to play (but it does help install faster as it wont have to download as much).

Ultimately, they cant keep up on a game forever. It's been nearly 2 years since BioShock 2 came out. They can continue to support the game, but they can't keep adding to it and fixing it forever. Eventually those resources will be needed elsewhere to work on other, newer games for us to enjoy.

If I recall, the devs won't fix BioShock 2 and had moved on since.
