H2H America Cup Tournament

This Tournament is for Xbox only and no, you don't have to live in America to enter.

Rules

1. This is a simple round robin tournament. Play two games against each other participant. The two highest-scorers will play pairs of games until one finalist wins both. Ties will be broken in the same manner.

2. The only civilizations allowed for this tournament are the Americans and Aztecs. You must play each civ once against each participant.

3. No Adar.

4. No democracy glitching. All peace requests must be accepted. All Great Wall requests must be accepted ONLY IF the player with the Great Wall has not attacked that turn. If the player with the GW attacks, he must wait until the following turn to send peace. Please play nice guys.

5. No pause glitching. No glitching of any kind.

6. Players alternate hosts. It is recommended that the host play Aztec and the other player play America, but that's up to the players. They can choose to play a mirror match instead or simply not discuss it.

7. Anyone is free to sign up. Please be sensible, if you have commitments in another tourney, that should take precedence. Please try to complete all games in a reasonable time frame. We're going to try to have this done by the end of March. If you can't play a dozen or so (mostly quick) games by then, then please don't sign up.

8. Rules are subject to modification up to when the first match has started.

9. You may not build the Oxford University wonder. Getting it from Angkor Wat is fine.

My americans with GE got a decent USA start and the game was pretty much over by 3000BC. USA beats Aztec.
I believe I didnt really play safe enough in this game after i got a good position, will need to work on that but it turned out ok.

yes played scottie who got his 100gld by 3700bc i walked in2 a dead end and didnt settle till 3300 after he had taken the greeks out. by the way scottie not 2 impressed how you ordered me 2 be aztec while u chose america i believe these matches have a fun factor on what civ u secretly use first! so beware people dnt let this neanderthal choose yor civ

i thought we were going with having to be opposite civs... and you picked aztec.. but um yeah you picked it - I prefer fixed starting civs. If i had picked i would have gone aztec vs your USA as the first game. I like the underdog wins

very close settled cities and early 100gld for us both but a clever caravan bait trap kills my horse army giving liam the win.

2nd game america mirror

huge game going all the way 2 bombers...yes oxford so we had a restart after liam wiped my attacking cruiser fleets out with the air support..
restart saw us in early wars i camp his tree with warrior army liam finds angor for demo, i find 7cog for a typical usa money fueled nav and legion hit, wondering if artifacts should be banned?

well id say we both had an advantage as liam had indust and all the great people! but my cruiser fleets cats and legions in fundy would have swung the game my way i think.

banning artifacts was just an idea as im pretty sure that in an american mirror match whoeva gets 7cog bd 1500bc is the winner with out no need 2 play on...but im not complaining i just feel like its a hollow win when i get that much cash and can super spawn armies or cities

Good games Mawpawk. I sent you a message before I built it if it was allowed as I couldn't remember and you didn’t send one back but I saw that you had teched university so with 50 hammers banked and 1200 gold I wasn’t taking the risk. I generally get it to stop others from getting it but couldn’t resist taking out your cruiser fleets when you went gung ho. I could of rushed sam castle and probably defended myself adequately as an alternative. 400g per turn whilst still teching I wasn’t going anywhere fast! It’s a shame I spoilt it really.

The second USA game you had big position on me and I had to threaten Greeks to get to 100g because silly barb gave me alpha. This time I started with GH which isn’t ideal but you work with it. You nearly walked in on me but I just managed to rush that warrior and then it seemed like I could end the turn when I wanted actually as the timer had elapsed but I could still do things.

I saw Angkor and knew you had horses and was pestering Spain. I thought if I can quickly tech to COL and then get a few cities out plus maths I’ll be able to defend myself in fundi but I was a turn off Cats when he landed at my tech city with 2 vet LA’s, 2 HA’s and a vet galleon fleet. EEK! Made short work of my 2 AA’s and 2 single archers (They were only 30g’s each). If one of them had held and vetted up I still wouldn’t of got cats there in time. It’s one of those that you know it’s coming but there isn’t much you can do to stop it.

The mistake I made was sending those settlers down there when they should of gone on the galley near AW where there were countless small fish islands. I had just started to expand with settlers on boats to the left but with you having nav I probably wouldn’t have held them. GG’s I enjoyed all three.

I'm not sure as I had riflemen/knights and a huge production city just set up which was capable of 75 hammers per turn in demo.

If the other guy doesn't get much gold, yeah it's pretty much over, but America is so powerful you might actually be able to stand up against Seven Cities with a decent start if you make a few good moves and your opponent gets complacent. We all know how that goes. Remember the long game is earned. If your opponent gets Seven Cities, you just have to earn harder.

I'm pretty sure (but not certain) he had a ton of gold as well as 7cog, definitely put him way over the 2nd gold milestone. With what he could produce also even with counters I couldn't of held that city with it being end of a peninsula so one unit to counter per turn and single cats weren't going to get it done anyway. If I had maybe 5 more turns I could of possibly done something but I'm not kidding when I say he had probably 80% of the map with me at the bottom.

You can't ban artifacts you've just got to get on with the cards that you're dealt. Some people might of questioned me going for democracy this game but I just wanted to get to COL quicker as pointles going republic and rushing settlers for 40g when I can pretty soon have them for 20gs. I went fundi temporarily when I first saw the two HA's lurking so that I could counter with AA's but I hit republic 2 turns later and Maw was patient...

PS the rules state I cannot build Oxford. I didn't I paid for it....! ;-)

My Aztecs vs his GE Americans. Surprise, Surprise - I lost!

It was a pretty enjoyable game all the same - All 105 minutes of it! I had the tech lead at 800ad. 6 tech, but unfortunately he was only 1 behind. My biggest mistake? Far too conservative early.

America vs forums America - I get an explorer, but soon realise i'm on an island. forum got Madrid for nav. I gave it a go, but he had 5 tech and 100g. Win for forum.

America v Mawpawks Aztec. Builder start and lots of gold. I just managed a win but nearly threw it all away.

America mirror match. I got a walk in on Moscow and the 7 cities. Totaly outclassed by Scottie though. He got Tripoli for religion and just wiped the floor with me.

Aztec game, He walked far longer than me. Fast on the butons for a change, My Horsearmy takes out his 2 warrior armies and his cap, so another 1-1 split.

the two vs jack. I played well with america and badly with the aztec. so I think i deserved a win /loss vs jack (rather than just map luck)
also played 2 vs liam which on the other hand were both luck.

first game usa vs aztec - he got 7cog as USA... and i got destroyed..

2nd game we had some miss starts due to ur bad connection or some dumb button pressing and so forth, including one where he had a decent advantage - but from my point of view not a decicive one... Sorry about that liam.

anyway in the final game my usa mets his aztec early. I move my settler away from him and settle by the ai. he attacks the ai and looses - so he calls it. If he had won he would have a ai cap right next to mine with a aztec WA in it - so things would have been tough unless i could win a 4.5 vs 4.5 or 4.5 vs 6 next turn.

oh forgot to mention it was like 2-4:30AM for me and i had switched my router around (was having connection issues) so my setup here was in an annoying configuration.. so i didnt get to record the games... (the time matters because I really wasnt up to applying my brain to rearranging the living room to record a game... and it was a risk that i'd wake up someone and they might beat me to death with my controller...)

We can play some games, but we should really just let the original one stand. I had a bad start. That happens. In the most recent one we played, I was going to bait you with my single horse and I was sitting there with my units selected waiting to move them late in the turn when suddenly the turn just ended and I didn't get my moves. Just a random thing I don't think I've seen before. So I tried moving in anyway and suddenly I'm fighting your pikeman 2-3 and finally my horse army that I had never gotten to move doesn't have any movement at all so it's just sitting there next to your pikeman, who is obviously blocking your horse army and eventually you trot up and kill me. Ha.

However, you were America with two caps plus Democracy and I was Aztec very far from you with one weak cap (Zulu, 2 pop) and one tech, didn't have my 100 gold and had no real prospects for earning more money aside from doing it the hard way. If a game has to bug out like that, one that I'm sure to lose is a good candidate for it in my book. I'm totally okay with letting the result stand.

Okay, fair enough. The game we are calling a result was the only one of the 4? we started where I had my GP, that last one my GP was a turn behind again, just general glitchyness?

Sorry no I won't be home till about 9pm tonight as I've got a quarter final snooker match to play from 6pm. Wed I'll be onfrom 8pm also and thursday prob not at all. Not a good week for me to play civ but should be on a whole lot over the weekend.
