New bug for me - boat in a landlocked city

Today I have an AI landlocked city hitting me with a trireme. Anyone else had this? Landlocked city that has a ship in it and uses it to barrage my invading units?

Are you sure the city isn't next to an ice tile? Ice tiles technically count as sea spaces.

Saw this a couple of times. Not sure how it's done. But yeah, the AI cheats.

It happens when a city is razed and there is a vessel still inside. The boat will end up in a near city which may or may not have access to a water tile. Its seemingly random..

    No city was razed.

    No ice tile.

Just a ship in a city in the middle of land. Cheating AI.

happened to me as well. I already knew the AI cheats but this is a little silly. I think they have to cheat a lot anyways, partly to the horrible workers AI. In all my games, I'd have several plots worked and 2-3 resources for (about turn 30-40) and they don't have anything built.

If the ship in a landlocked city were the AI cheating, you'd see it a lot more often. Instead it's extremely rare. It's much more likely to be a bug. It's really hard to find examples where the AI cheats - that is, plays according to different rules than the game states. Production and happiness bonuses are not cheating. Lower levels remove most, and the VEM mod removes all at Prince level.

I've only ever seen it happen when the AI builds a new ship in a port where a) there is already a ship in port and b) all available sea hexes that are closer than the land-locked city are "full" (either with ships or embarked units). At the end of the turn the AI has to jump the new ship to the nearest available hex, and that is the land-locked city. So the bug is in the "land which is a city can host a ship" logic (as it needs to be "coastal land which is a city can host a ship")

Wow. I was not expecting such a definitive explanation. Thanks.

Another situation where the ship jumps is when it is in another player's territory and an Open Borders treaty expires. Or I guess if it is just tagged by an expanding foreign border. Possibly the same scenario could arise there?

    Never seen it personally.

I just had this happen to me - with MY ship going into MY landlocked city! I had moved a frigate into a city to heal, but it was a conquered city that was being razed to the ground. After the city was destroyed, the frigate was transported to the nearest city - which happened to be inland. So now I have a frigate that's stuck in an inland city. I'm going to keep it simply for the lulz.

Don't forget to upgrade it to a destroyer for the extra artillery support

You can see the Destroyer in land-locked Kumbi Saleh. At the bottom is the ruined city where it had previously been stationed.
