    Borderlands 2 Custom Xbox

    Borderlands 2 Custom Xbox Slim

I have not modded a Xbox Slim case yet, but as they are getting real cheap now i thought i would play around with this spare case.

The plan, so far. Is for a Borderlands 2 themed case. I have some ideas but i wont reveal all my secrets straight away.

    Stripped it down

Rough designs, i wanted a radius on the corners

Files. These make your job alot easier then trying to sand your edges down smooth.

    Top window cut out

When you are marking out your windows, check behind where you will be cutting, it makes it alot easier if you fit your design to the case.

    Some more progress

    Expanding Foam

Wanted to add some rocks / terrain to the bottom of the case, add a display for the Xbox case. Wrapped the case in some foil and tape to not get any foam on it. Raised the case up a bit from the base to add some height.

I was filming the expanding foam but the camera went flat 10 seconds into the foaming. Real dirty stuff, definatly will be wearing gloves next time, sticks to your fingers real good.

Sony Bloggie. Never will i buy one of Sony's products again. Battery life is terrible. Needs to go in for warrenty.

Removed the case from the base, this is why i used the foil, made it alot easier and nothing stuck to the case. I will be carving the foam and using filler ( bondo, body filler ) to get the shapes i want.

These are the rocks im trying to make at the base

Spent some time on the expanding foam carving out the rocks, sharp flat edges, they don't seem to have much curves.

I removed the foam and other things from the centre and dropped the case lower, looks better then being raised up so hign. Now the rocks look like they have grow / formed around the case, rather then just the case sitting on the top.

This side looks a bit plain so i thought i would keep the foam / rocks higher.

The rocks are far from finished. It looks like not much has happend, but its hard to see in the photos.

Sprayed the base with a light coat of primer. You can start to see the shapes that i carved alot better now. I like how it is, just need to make the foam a bit stronger and fill in all the air pockets

Starting to get the look of real rocks. It will look better when all the rocks have a light skim coat of body filler ( bondo ) and sanded back. I think i will paint the rocks a black then grey over the top, i will lightly sand the edges of the rocks so the black comes through, just like the above pictures of the rocks in game.

The controller for the Borderlands 2 Case, Yellow and Amber LED's, thinking of adding a mix of yellow and orange buttons ( A B X Y ) but don't want to over do it with the colors.

Amber Perspex, transparent not a solid color so you will still be able to see into the case, may paint the disc drive behind so it does not stand out so much.

Strip of RGB LED's these can be cut down into sections and joined together. 12V power. Maybe RED

LCD Tempreture Sensor will have this cut into the side of the case. Orange LCD will mount the sensor underneath the heatsink.

    Dremel 300

I had a rotary tool before, but i had my brother borrow it and it never came back

Marked and cut out with the dremel using a cutting disc, quick and easy. I like to lay tape down and mark over that and cut over it. Remove the tape and it leave a nice finish, the plastic won't melt back onto the case.

Cut less and file to fit, nothing worse then cutting off to much and having it ruined.

Rocks are slowly coming along again, had to take a break from them and take my time. Still some work to go.

More rock progress, starting to take shape now, trying to get those sharp edges.

    Engraved case badges

You may have seen the samll drawings of Gearbox Software and 2K Sports logo on the case, design has been sent to the engraver and has come out perfect.

    LED's

Started getting some work done on my LED's, wanted to change it from the boring single color but wanted to keep with the Borderlands colors ( red, orangeand yellow ) in the build.

RGB strips make this a lot easier, when i wanted to use yellow i would solder the Green and Red Connections together. I even used Orange and Yellow wires to keep with the theme.

Red hard drive window will have red and fan grill will have yellow

Red LED's on the other side will be hidden inside the rocks and have a slight angle so they point up along the case to give it a glowing red effect.

Keeping the paint idea as a surprise for now, ill show you step by step as i go though.

    Matte Black as the base

Lightly sanded back, ready for the next color over the top.
Picture resized a little weird the badges have come out rough.

Can't wait to see the finished product.

As a total aside: I would love to see Xbox (and PC) casemods themed after each of the weapons-manufacturors in the game.

A big thank you to Chris.F at Gearbox Software, he has sent me out some presents.

Gearbox Software Shirt, Traiding Cards, Fridge Magnets, Stickers and a bag to fit it all in. Appreciate you helping me out with this build.

I have watched the Doomsday trailer over and over.

Found some nice designs for the case, i used the image below and wanted a paint effect to go along with the design.

Painted all parts in a Matte Black base

After the black base was dry, i sprayed a wet coat of silver and quickly laid over some plastic wrap over the top and placed it down and lifted it back up to reveal a nice finish, similar to the pattern in the trailer that i was trying to achieve. This is the first stage of the paint, more to come.

Thanks to Modiify for sponsoring the Borderlands 2 Case.

Giving me a nice price and delivery on some parts for the controller and the case.

    Modiify Elite Thumbsticks

Orange and Yellow A B X Y Buttons. Going to mix and match maybe A X Y will be Orange and B Yellow.

Yellow and Orange Ring of Light to match the controller.

I would think that the B button would simply stand out, as being out-of-place, if you did that. Go for a straight orange look.

Maybe you can work the yellow in, if you can get the bottom half of the controller case in yellow? You know, the part that's grey on a standard controller?

Ill definatly have a play around with colors, not final on anything yet.

    My new old toy.

Scroll Saw - it makes it so easy to do detailed cuts and designs, in a heap of different materials. I find it better then the dremel for some things.

Borderlands logo, the plan is to cut out a big logo and have it on the side of the case, the left hand side.

2 holes were needed to be drilled so i could thread the blade and continue cutting, this weekend i will have a lot of progress done.

Thanks to Modiify for the package, received it today and within a couple of minutes i had my controller finished.

I decided to go with the orange buttons and to make it stand out a little i kept the original B button, i played around with a few different combinations till i came up with this design.

Modiify Custom Thumbstick, they are the mushroom shaped like the PS3, i prefer these over original.

This whole project is just MAGNIFICENT Ozzy. I am in awe. Thank you SO much for sharing your journey with us in designing this very special custom Xbox. The pictures and comments along the way are very well done and professional. Can't wait for your next update! Recently I've come to realize there are SO many independent artists, designers, craftsman and sculptors out in the world today. I've found that the work they do is often filled with more passion, dedication and creativity than anything else anywhere...

I support you my friend. Keep doing what your doing and keep sharing it with everyone...

i think it would be pretty awesome if you did the front power switch with the lights around it as either the vault sign, or as a Hyperion eye.

Looking at these pictures makes me feel like I'm wasting my life. My 360s are no longer safe.

Excited to see the finished product.

    Paint Update

As you can see after the first coat of clear, the textured finish was still there.

Wet Sanded down with 1200 Grit

Another coat of clear, getting better

    Final coat

As you can see the finish is a high gloss now and can see a nice reflection, ill leave it for a few days and a light wet sand and start buffing and polishing.
