Brain trust: military strategy
Hope that got your attention.
But seriously, I had a bit of an idea (granted it's about midnight here, I hate insomnia). Why not have a specific thread for sharing notes on the finer points of Civ 5 battle tactics? Now, of course, I don't want everyone sharing all their tricks, but I do appreciate shared experiences. I have a few guidelines here: first, please stick to the current conversation, my own train of thought is chaotic enough, I don't need a mass jumble of thought throwing another monkey wrench in there. I'm sure everyone else will appreciate this as well. Second, let's try to get a new topic at least every other week, or however long it takes to go through the last one. Third, let me know if I start rambling, I have a tendency to do that a lot.
Other than that, it's up to ya'll!
Now, to get things started, I'll ask a simple question: When playing as a civ with a tendency towards mounted units, whether they have a mounted UU or just because you wound up with a buttload of horses, how do you balance your army? I use a strong melee unit, such as LS/Musketmen/etc, paired with crossbows to get rid of their pikemen and then steamroll over them. How bout you?
My reason for this is simple: it's just not worth playing the game if your not challenging yourself. Push yourself to your limit to just barely get by, go beyond your limit to succeed. Although I'm not yet trying MP, ( someday) I believe that the greater the opponent, the greater the game. Therefore, the more we know, the further our strategies can expand, and that is my purpose here.
Sorry for the wall of text, Lot of thought, not so much planning.

PS: Yes, this did begin because I was having difficulties balancing out my Mandekelu war machine. It just evolved from there. Now we have Frankensteins monster. Deal with it. But not with an axe, as that would destroy your computer.
