Thread: The Darkness should be an Animated Film.

  1. #1

Exclamation The Darkness should be an Animated Film.

Like Dead Space . . . see how good they pulled that up? a film in it self would not look any good, specially with the concept of shadows and darkness the director and producers will have a field day by hiding the real action in the dark! now where is the fun in that.

Here is a list of reasons why I think Darkness should not be an action live film but an Animated one:
    1. In an animated version they are limited only by their animation not technology.
    2. It is way cheaper, so they can achieve more with the same budget.
    3. voice actors are cheaper than stunt-men and actors.
    4. dont have to ruin the franchise by making somthing crappy.

unless what they want to cover is not actually darkness itself, but more revoled around jackie, how he grew up in an orphanage and became what he was in the begining of darkness 1.

I know this has nothing to do with the game, BUT I say it does, I think if the style of the movie is similar to the 2K game adoption (The Darkness 2) it would be so much better, and smoother.

    Dont you think?

I like the idea, it seems like a natural progression from comic to animation. It would also mean they could use the game's voice actors rather than trying to shoehorn in live action versions of the characters which usually ends up as a failure due to bad casting.

exactly, and it wouldnt come out as a shocker. do you remember Dr. Strange? That is exactly the theme suitable for The Darkness.

Dont you think? -- damn . . . the mere mention of it, wants me to watch it again! brb :P

I think I would rather a live action movie with actors and such because you get to see what the darkness could look like in real life and I just prefer those types of movies anyway

Yeah but we have no idea how the Darkness(the tentacles I mean)would turn out.It would probably look very cgi-sh i.e. crappy.I'd say animation is the better route.

If you look at movies in the theaters, how many movies are animated?.... not many or if there is any at all. I think the majority of people (at least in america) don't like animated entertainment in general (including me). We will just have to wait and see how the darkness will be adapted to a film. But from a sales point of view, perhaps a live action film would be more lucrative for them to sell, yet more expensive to produce.

So many licenses that have worked great as comics or games have turned out some of the worst movies ever made. I really, really don't want that to happen to The Darkness. If they get the casting wrong for Jackie it's dead from the start.

But with an animated film there is more creative freedom, just as long as it's American made & not Japanese anime, God that would just be awful. I remember seeing an anime series of Wolverine that just completely pissed all over the character. But think of something along the lines of the Spawn series, that could be pretty cool. Or possibly even a CG feature like they did with Final Fantasy & Resident Evil.

Imagine a 2 hour Darkness movie that looked like this:

tbh i must say i too am for the live action instead of anime or full cg route, why?

simply cause hollywoods cg is top notch and not cheapish as long as its used in moderation ...moderation beeing the magic word, and as long as they dont have uwe boll as producer it should turn out alright xD

    live action all da way!!!

p.s: america and animation dont fit into one context sorry bro xD

well I guess its time to return the favor -- I think your "clearly thinking too positive or rather naive should i say?"

Do you think they are going to give darkness (a new and young title) a big budget like other super hero films like the ones Marvel and DC make? even they understand that something just cant be made in films.

Do you know how good can the movie get to be? the MAXIMUM. the EXTREME of their efforts will create something as good as Green Lantern, and if you like a movie like that then thanks . . . im washing my hands of this topic now, but if you agree that GL was a crappy movie that F'ed the lore, then you now know how bad they can make the darkness be.

On another note, what is cheaper? a good actor or a good voice actor!! they can do wonders if they go for animated, see movies like Dead Space, and Sorceres Supreme.

I say darkness doesnt have room in the theaters yet, it must first make a mark, like Dead Space! they made loads of cash on the DVD sales!!! and it even made the game better! do you know what they could have done? They could have made Darkness 1 into a animated film for all those who havent played the first game or that they dont know the background lore . . .

    see what I mean?

perhaps im being naive but seeing as what has been done with iron man , spiderman , blade, thor etc etc id say it has a chance? xD

and yes i really hope the darkness does get a relative big budget to work out of,dont wanna see this be a fail itd pain me to no end to see it go the ways bloodrayne etc did xD

p.s: green lantern was using crappy cg, but yeah i guess you have a point it wasnt exactly lore , only good part was the actor hes funny xD

and tbh beeing used too top notch animation like metropolis, akira, memories, paprika or ghost in the shell as a couple examples....dead space animation sucks BAD its on the same level with the riddick chronicles animated feature -.-' ...sorry bro, even wicked city or urotsukidoji had better animation -.-', thats mainly why i wouldnt like to see the darkness in animated form

hell i could imagine it to turn out like the max payne live action movie weve seen ....wich wasnt all too bad btw except that it wasnt exatly lore xD thou its cg miles better than GL

If the creative director of the Darkness 2 (a.k.a the bald guy with the goatee) has any hand in the movie (for so he claimed) then the movie is doomed. I dont even need to know the casting to know that the franchise is already destroyed!!

Have you red the comic books? do you know how AWESOME! darkness is? even though they say he is a don, they are still treating him as a street thug killing . . . wth? I think if they fire the guy, the game would end up better . . .

but then again who reads this other than us fans . . .

In my opinion "again" im not sure if The Darkness is a theater worthy movie material at all . . . sure there is alot of gore, and sure there is a certain lore. but . . . like green lantern is too much to fit in one movie, and too violent to have a wide audince.

THE ONLY reason why horrible movies like Green Lantern survived were because of the rating of PG-13! but if they make The Darkness anything less that +18 then the movie is down right horrible even before the screen, cause they are taking away one great aspect of the movie.

Perhaps it will be something like Spawn? that one wasnt bad either, but then again that is a totally different persona.

ummmm thats for what we have R ratings ...lolz , its not like they make a loss in profit if it was quality stuff -.-'

    1 movie? who said there cant be a 2nd and 3rd part ? -.-'

and youre answering yourself , see damn spawn was great if the darkness turns out to be anything like it we have a winner btw theres a dir cut of spawn making it rated R protip

bottom line the darkness is pure quality material ...only depends on who does it and if they put some blood and sweat into it , you get me?

lets just hope they do so ...dont wanna see it go down the same path bloodrayne did tbh xD

I still think this is a horrible idea!
I want it to be animated, I recently watched the Sorceress supreme again, and it was very amazing and it could have been really interesting if they would have made something similar for the darkness 1 and released it before the game was released so everyone -- even those not playing the game would be able to see the back story.
