Hey, 2K. The time for news is, now.

A year ago today, the beta for Spec Ops: The Line ended. But, since then, we haven't heard one word from you. In my opinion, this is the perfect time to start putting news out there.

Primarly a release date. But, some new screenshots will do or a new trailer.

Either way, it's time for news and for you guys to prove, this game is still coming out.

You have no idea how much the single player story for this game interested me when it was first announced. I cannot wait to see if it holds up to that excitement.

I'd like to hear a bit more about how the dynamic moral choice aspect will work. Given that it was a huge draw for me that you can actually effect the storyline by choosing to do things a certain way (in the E3 demo I believe it was go in guns blazing, go in stealthy or leave it all be), I want to see if that dynamic has been expanded on at all.

I am all about the mutiplayer as well, more so a solid clan system. I believe Socom by Zipper to be the originators of the clan system for online shooters on consoles, and there simply is no game currently that supports a traditional clan system as Socom did. I understand SOTL is it's own game, but a great clan system allows for a great community appreciation of the game. The fact that a person can create a clan, be the leader, and no one else can take that name is unique, and provides some pride. Games like BF3, R3, COD all can create clan tags, but anyone can sport that tag. It is the clan name that associates greatness. Look at the current Socom: 4 and what that community has lost there. Zipper totally reinvented the wheel for Socom: 4 and lost 75% of it's traditional fans from previous iterations.

We understand developers use ideas from COD, and I just don't want to see another COD version shooter. I want to see true clan battles where players die, and they are dead. It relies on other soldiers during battles that are alive to get the map won or to tie it. 8 vs. 8 lobbies, 4 vs. 4 lobbies, 16 vs. 16 lobbies. Allow for clan members to play together, and to join a battle together. Have a true ladder system incorporated in the game that allows for clans to join, and to challenge other clans do take that #1 position. Make it a working ladder system that benefits all that use it, and drops clans off after 30 days of not having a single match. Make it a true 3rd person view with no over the shoulder camera views. Allow for a true spectating mode that would allow a ref to spectate tournament matches that sites such as www.elitebattlezone.com, and gamebattles.com do. All for a complete lobby system rather than a queue system that people join and wait to enter a room. Allow for lobby creation by clans, and players where they can name the lobby so clans can have tryouts for new recruits, and so that allies of clans can find where each ally is playing. Clans like to have home lobbies, and this provides a clan the ability to post on their website forums where they play, and what times they will be there so new recruits and clan members can always play together when on the game.

Have the dev's purchase Socom: 3 and Combined Assault to understand a true clan system. This is what I would like to see with SOTL. If SOTL is a true 3rd person shooter, and has a great clan system, and is marketed to the masses as such a manner as MW3 or BF3 was it will be a great success. I am looking forward to all future released information, and I look forward to an invite to a PS3 beta if they have one.

The members here really listed some good question, and I got a really important one for myself, How long exactly is the SP Campaign ?!, This is a big thing to me, I feel Spec Ops The Line will deliver a great story, and I don't want it to end in 6:8 hrs, I want a 20+hr experience, the most great TPS ever, It been really too long since I last played a Military TPS

Also I would like to see a Demo, not a 2 min gameplay video, no an actual 10min+ demo, that showcases the game mechanics, the sand gameplay, the environment, the different strategies to handle the situation, and most important the moral choice

Come on guys make it up for us for the long wait, would ya ?!

You made some good points, EBZ. For all its flaws, I think S4 is still a fun game. However, SOTL could definitely take a page from its (lack of) success to deliver a game that would have the potential to draw in many of Socom's lost fans.

As you said, a lobby system would be most excellent. And I'm not talking a private game, but an actual user-created public room. The more I played S4, the more I found myself wishing that I could have the option of joining a lobby with no grenade launchers (especially in the non-respawn game types). The queue system in that game for groups is also subpar, so that's something that I think SOTL should consider and improve upon.

A ladder system is a must if this game hopes to consider itself in any way "competitive," and I think you described such a system pretty well.

Also, I would personally love to see a classic-Socom type no-respawn system in place (granted, in S4 I do like to get a warm-up in on the respawn modes, and respawn is also helpful for learning maps and figuring out the game types, but there's nothing like the rush that comes from being the last guy alive on your team, outnumbered, and pulling out the win). Round-based non-respawn is where it's at.

As far as camera view goes, I don't mind OTS. I find that I'm pretty adaptable as far as that goes, and honestly I don't understand why it's such a huge gripe for many players, though cosmetically, being able to see your character's legs and the gear they've got strapped on is cool. Also, I feel that the aiming system found in S4 is perfectly fine. I notice a lot of players complaining that you can zoom into OTS and how it slows your movement down, but all I take from that is that they're mad they can no longer strafe side-to-side while being shot at and while putting accurate return-fire downrange, and instead have to rely on actually placing more shots on-target more accurately than their opponent (which as far as I'm concerned is a more realistic military-style of play). If that makes sense...

In any case, I'm very excited to see what this title will bring to the table.

I just remembered a few more things, is there a squad control ?!, and how does that work excalty in the SP ?!, this is a very important matter

Also will the moral choices change the SP experience each playthrough ?!, different scenarios, different outcomes, or what exactly is the effect of moral choices on the game ?! (and the player)

Will there be any sort of customization in the MP ?!, and what are the modes the MP will support ?!, I am asking cause you may give us a new mode or something

Please do not have open mic system. It is very irritating and violates my gaming experience when I have to hear people having sex, babies crying, children yelling, wife's yelling, husbands yelling, want-a-be rappers, obscene music, other TV's being loud, you name it open mic has it.

Have a mic system like Socom: 3 where you have to push to talk, and you could switch channels to only talk with team mate on same channel. Socom: 3 had channel 1, channel, 2 and channel all. Clans would split up into squads during some of the most intense clan wars I have ever participated in, and have the squads use different channels to communicate. It would only be they switch to channel all if they where down to 2 or 1 on a squad to be able to communicate with the entire clan or what was left during a war. That is the mic system to have, not open mic.

Let's try to keep this thread about what we want to hear from the info release today rather than what we want to see in game. It's starting to get a little off topic guys.

Not to be rude but the topic is as follow: "Hey, 2K. The time for news is, now." That is title of thread, and it was not until #2 post which is a link saying "And news you shall have". If an opinion of what we hear from a release is requested this topic should be closed, and a new topic created titled "What are your opinions on latest Trailer and Information". The conversation in this particular thread has been the most activity in this forum related to SOTL in a very long time, and I think that this traffic would lead to more, and than possibly a great community being built in this forum for SOTL. When you start requesting us to be silent and to stay on topic which the topic asks for news, you push away fans that would contribute to the community.

Post #5 by 2K David states "Really excited to be able to show the game off. What are some of the things you guys hope to see in the new updates on Tuesday"? To me that is a question posed as to what we would like to see, and does not ask for feedback on what we saw. I think within scope of my replies and a few others we have stated what we would like to see based on that question.

There have been several threads with "these are features I want in the game" discussions. This one is asking "what would you like to see in the trailer coming out tomorrow?"

I get that you're passionate about what you want to be "in the game," but try and focus on what you want to know from the info-release tomorrow. Maybe I'm nitpicking on grammar, but there is a difference between saying "this has to be in the game" and "can you tell me if the feature I want is in the game?" That's all I'm asking, EBZ

Point taken, and understood. However; I don't believe I have used either of those phrases in my above posts. I will however abide by your request, and I look forward to the information provided tomorrow. I can than critique it, and than say again what I would like to see in SOTL. Now I am a big fan of the 3rd person shooters, and have found none greater than the Socom series up to Socom: 4 which killed my socrack addiction. Socom: Confrontation was alright, but was quickly run wild with glitches, and cheaters. No dev support, and no DLC other than Cold Front map pack.

Ever since I lost my love for Socom I have had to play games such as MW2, MW3, Black Ops, BF3, Crysis 2, Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2 & 3, Resistance 3, and others. If you see a pattern they are basically 1st person shooters, and don't provide for me the hours of enjoyment I previously had. Now my birthday is March 6, and Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is slated to be released that day which is pre ordered, and is 3rd person shooter. I look forward to that, and I am also looking forward to SOTL.

Once I first saw the SOTL website, screenshots, information, and trailer I thought I have found a new 3rd person shooter to fall in love with. I am passionate about gaming, and 3rd person shooters. I will be a great contributor to this forum, and my mannerisms are good as I do not violate forum rules. So let's enjoy, and see what tomorrow brings us all.

This^ Socom used to have a great communication system and I think it was even improved upon in Confrontation with the addition of proximity chat. However all that went down the tubes once Zipper decided to do tap-to-talk instead the the regular PTT and then they decided to just say "Screw it we'll just make it all open mic." Really hoping this game has a good communication system in it, alot of us that have come to these forums loved the way we had things with our favorite franchise, but Sony/Zipper decided to do something completely different so that has left us looking for something to vill the void. If this game has a good clan system, lobbies, true third person view, no health regen, round based play you guys would probably get alot of new and very hardcore fans.

I agree with you on the mic system and everything, but to elaborate towards most of your posts, I think instead of hoping that SO:TL can be like the older Socoms, ( Best console round based shooter of its "time" ) I think you should hope that spec ops innovates where the original socoms did not. We can all agree that zipper did ruin their series, but it doesn't mean you should try to get other games to play like games from years past. It's only Nostalgia. The best thing we can hope for regarding socom is a HD remake. Instead of making SO:TL into something it shouldn't be, let it be its own game. Re-hashing old content is what is wrong with this industry to begin with. *cough* CoD *cough*. Just think, what if Yager had great new ideas they wanted to implement and would have been successful, but their user base wanted something old fashion and the new idea never came. You'd be stuck with the same type of game you can already play now.

TL;DR: Let spec ops be spec ops, hope for a socom 1, or 2 remake. *flame suit on?*

I see what you're saying, but I don't think any of us are expecting a carbon copy of Socom from SO:TL. We just know what we like and we know that it freakin works! That said Socom used to own the market when it came to TPS round based game at least on the Playstation family. Maybe it is time for another game to challenge Socom for the hardcore people who want that round based play, 1 life kind of play instead of the generic ranked respawn that you see in just about every shooter these days.

  25. #25
Counter strike global offensive will be non respawn no health regen. No lame weapon progression bull. Solid hardcore shooter. Only problem is its 1st person. Wouldn't it be awesome to have a third person shooter similar. So:tl could have settings and modes for us hardcore shooters

I don't play a lot of multi, more into co-op but those I have played recently do usually have a mode with 1 life etc although probably not as hardcore as some. Problem is you're fighting against a tide of games with features you don't like that continue to break sales records. It's those that are going to be used as a benchmark......

The market is already saturated with first person shooters of all types, and there has been only 1 to dominate being COD. Socom was the premier third person shooter, and dominated along with introducing the online gaming mic. I have never stated for SOTL to be a mass reproduction of the great Socom game. What I have mentioned was that they buy the game and look at what it did, and offer their interpretation. So many games have the XP points, and perks. Heck; I think even Socom: 4 which I purchased and played maybe all but 5 times added a XP system, and perks along with open mic after some patches. Why did Zipper take Socom: 4 so far away from the mechanics that made Socom great?

I have to play these first person shooters because I cant get my fix on any third person shooters that have provided the skill, clan function, nor skill to survive as did Socom. Who the heck runs around in a military style shooter game, gets shot, and money flies into the air? The games that have perk systems are the games that have mass camping from players building the perks to still camp while using some perk weapon to win the map. What skill is there in that to deploy missiles or a helicopter gunship to just hover and blast people running around. That is why they are respawn, and are mainly attracted to the youth.

Grown men and women such as I prefer to have a challenge, and to use skill at winning not only as a single player, but as a entire group. There is no greater satisfaction kn owing you helped a team to capture a control point, breach a base, demo a base, win by suppression, etc.. A true clan structure allows for 1 person to establish a clan as the leader, have a clan name, and create tags. All these current games do not, and anyone once reaching a certain level can have tags, and no clan name is needed.

A clan communicates on what needs to be done, and they strategize the plan of attack or defense. They just don't rush and die. Military wars just don't have soldiers rush in and die, well not anymore more anyways. There has to be the element of surprise. There has to be that element from the defenders wondering what the attackers will do, where they will come from, and with what arsenal they will have.

SOTL has the possibility of being a good game if the mechanics work properly. They have the potential of being great if they have a solid clan system. They have the possibility of being the current best third person shooter in the market. Would you want to be the best and have great game mechanics, solid clan structure, in-game dev support, dlc, and maintenance, or would you just want to be another one of those games that has mediocre sales, and minimal online activity. I want to play the best, and I want to be the best.

Example: Resistance 3 fell from grace as Insomniac Games deviated from a winning formula. Socom: 4 fell from grace as Zipper deviated from a winning formula.

Spec Ops: The Line is new and can lead the third person shooter market as they have not deviated from anything, and they can set bench marks in the industry with awesome features not currently being used in a saturated gaming market. Take the bull by the horn, crush it's balls, and create something that not only will they be proud of, but goes into history as one of the all time great third person shooter online video games. I want that, don't you.
