Getting disconnected...

So, I was beating some zulu punk down with my aztecs. So he decides to freeze the game when it's not looking good for him. I tell him "Hell will freeze over before i quit". He even admits he cheated and says he's not quitting. I text him back saying the only way i'm quitting is if i get disconnected. Then i decide to watch a movie. After that, i come back expecting game to still be frozen but instead displayed on the screen is my dashboard menu. I was somehow disconnected. I checked and noticed got a loss. This is second time this has happened to me. I'm wondering if my opponent had anything to do with it.

The only way you will get an auto-loss in ranked from a disconnect is due to a connection or console issue on your end - in my experience this can't be intentionally done to you, at least that is my assumption after over 1000 games, since these disconnects appear to happen randomly (i.e., with different opponents) and in several instances when I was losing... so presumably no incentive for opponent to cheat. That said, most of those instances were within the last few months so I wager this may reflect diminishing server space and support dedicated to Civ Rev (in line with diminishing revenues from game sales). The worst is when a disconnect is coupled with a reset to 1200 - that has happened to me 3x in 1 1/2 years, and is clearly an act of retribution by the Civ gods for rising too high

Some account reset others don't. My Stratga never resetted, my SVPM account resets all the time or it will be in front of you by a long run.

When I'msat in 347,678th place and the guy above me has won 0-3 loss record and mine is 2750 - 1100 I pray for a reset!!

Your game counts don't reset only your score...

Some account reset others don't. My Stratga never resetted, my SVPM account resets all the time or it will be in front of you by a long run.

Is that true? Both of my main accounts have been reset - BBAW has been reset from Top 5 twice and Civ Addict has been reset once. BBAW would be at like 1800 by now if no reset, all things considered. Then again, you probably lose more than 30 points per loss after 1700, so who knows. May be time to retire those accounts - every game now feels like tempting fate (and the freezers).

I figured you had already encountered a bunch of freezers as the top ranked player. I thought there'd be alot of those cheaters eager to gain a lot of points by beating you.

Oh yeah, I run into freezing a$$holes almost every night that I play ranked. A few are even explicit in their intent. But I've gotten very good with recognizing and blocking or avoiding most freezes and glitches - as I'm sure you know, that's unfortunately a big part of staying highly ranked. The disconnects are the real killers - had 2 last week that dropped me 60 pts - and my hunch is that freezing and glitching increases the probability of a hard DC. But I'm usually very busy at work so I have no problem waiting out some of the more egregious violators, even when I don't need to, just for the sake of deterrence (and to frustrate their boosting). Honestly most of these morons can't even articulate a coherent, debasing taunt while freezing you, let alone with any degree of finesse, and I have to admit I do get perverse enjoyment out of brutally excoriating their weak young minds with well-crafted insults that will likely require psychiatric care later in life
