XCOM is delayed until after March 2012

In what can only be described as a good decision for XCOM, the game is being delayed and so is getting two very important things:

    1) More time to make some much needed adjustments (IMO) and most importantly, mechanical polish

    2) Will no longer be releasing next to Mass Effect 3 - quite frankly that's the best decision for the game.

There isn't any solid release date now, just "Fiscal 2013" but it will come out after April 1 2012 to March 31 2013. Hopefully this means they will have the time to look at implementing the base building aspect mentioned in a previous interview.

Edit: This also explains the complete silence since the full E3 2011 playthrough and the first developer diary, especially with the game originally coming out in March. Plenty of time to make sure they get it right.

HA! Knew they would do that. I can just imagine a Hilter Rant Parody of 2k going "We'll release in March, as there should be little competition about then", only to be told that Mass Effect 3 is releasing the same day

I'm not concerned. It will be nice to have that little buffer of more time between ME3 and XCOM's release.

Thank you 2K. As I've reiterated many times releasing on the same day as ME3 would have been suicide. I expect this won't be a very long delay, but any delay that gets you out of Mass Effect's line of fire is a good one.

Just heard the news. Mixed emotions, but I hope it all works out for the best. This surely throws a monkey wrench into the ARG, but it might benefit the actual game.

Maybe some of the features that the developers were "going to look at possibly doing" will now get more attention. Like base building or alien containment.

BTW, 2014 (20th anniversary of original X-COM:UD is getting closer.) Hint, Hint.

I heaved a sigh of relief for this exact reason.
