Sorry no come to think about it he wasn't Spanish. Maybe he was Egypt for the last two games? I can't remember to be honest as it wasn't much of a game. I only know he couldn't of picked Spain because the game before that I had picked them before he informed me that they weren't in the list so we restarted.

There were four seperate dye spots between me and Karakoun so I started pumping settlers out of the mongol cities and attack Greece to the north. He seems to have had a great start and I rushes Collosus with a GB. My gp comes a bit later but it's a scientist which I use for nav to carry on expansion. I lose my horse army 9 vs 7.5 to Greece (I tried to retreat but left it too late).

Not to worry I have the entire mainland to carry on expanding. I hit democracy with 8 cities and catch him up at about invention 16 techs each when I think I accidentally froze the game by pressing R1 (Or its xbox equivalent) at the end of the turn trying to make peace with Greece. Good example of library vs. expansion. The library gives you early tech but expansion means you will eventually overtake your opponent.

Well... I used japan in the first game where u Liam won the o,67-1.0 battle.

We never now, but i belive the first match would have been mine. I was 2 turns from Cruiser fleet and teched like crazy. Also had a gs for intustri. Had plenty of gold and just settled 3 nice dye, whale cities.

The Egypt Greece match was over when u got a warrior in an prevented a drop in(tryed to be fast, but that fu....warrior never landed :-) ) Started off on a really bad place.

GG Liam u where the best but as I said yesterday..ur bad luck is
    not used in this tournament.

Lost both my games to Duke last night. I really wanted to put up a good fight here but just had nothing going for me in either game whereas Duke had th world! First game my Japan versus his English. I decide not to walk settler more than a tile as it puts me next to a barb which with one tree and water I can take down 1 flag. It shows me angkor wat but thats all I ever had. I get another warrior out left which travels 5 tiles to a dead end with nothing and the other wararior goes east along the largest "pensulina" I have ever come across! In the mean time Duke has got Karakoun at 3500, 100g at 2900 and I see his borders at end of pen. I don't get 100g till 2100 by working gold and I rush a galley south just to see if I can see any weak spots I might have a chance with legions but no there are longbows everywhere. I didn't have the funds or hammers to make them anyway and when I saw one of his cities on double dye I knew I was just delaying the inevitable so I called it.

Second game was my germans versus his india. This time I'm at the south pole so definitely decide to settler walk north. I walked for 4 turns through what just seemed plain after plain with no tree. I get a naming tile and see egypts borders. I settle next to a barb with one tree two grass rest desert!! I take down the barb and form warrior army and attack egypt from hill when it hits three pop hoping to get BW too. Duke has taken kyoto and got KT early. I take thebes with stonehenge in 2900 just as Duke gets 7cog and soon AOC as I saw his galley. I settle my 100g city next to 3 tree and rush barracks and start making elite warriors but this whole process was just too slow again and he was right at the other side of the map with plenty of scouts in between. I had no tech going on (berlin was landlocked) and Duke just got too much too early again so I called it.

We played a friendly game straight after and I used English versus his Russia. This time he had the terrible start getting barb choked and my first two warriors hit barbs for 50g each so I had 2 settlers out on dye in no time. He hits angkor wat so I start to tech. We had some good knights versus legion battles but the knights held firm. It really does go to show that the start goes a long way in this game. I know people like to hang in there sometimes and try hail mary attacks but I think this will only work against average opponents.

    Thanks for the games!!

It will only work reliably against average opponents. I almost always try a hail mary attack when I'm behind and usually it fails against forum members. Sometimes it succeeds. You should always try.

game 1 in the books with preyforme, my russians vs his england. once again starting luck was huge. i had 7 cities on my map to start the game. after taking out a barb i took it and was off to the races. i formed 2 HA's, and took down bejjing, kyoto, and paris w/gb. he took aw in the meantime, so i set my sites on expanding while teching to engineering. turns out he had a crappy island start, but set to tech and passed me up around at 10-12 techs. i wasn't worried, as i had lots of good cities that were still working food and hammers to make more. i decided to harrass him before he could get to 24, and sent 3 HA's, a CA, and AA to his nearest island. i took it but he used a gs on steam. he sunk to lot of them, except for my CA which was still on the island. he formed a fleet and landed at my nearest city, still at 22 techs. this was a tactical error as it slowed his treck to 24 down considerably. i managed to rush 10 g riflemen while the rest of my empire grew. i got both gold techs and started rushing some libraries. with this sudden boost i cruised thru to steel. i ammassed a battleship fleet on the turn he hit 24, sinking his cruisers and ending his game. i would have taken the 5th cap before he could have re-rallied im sure. i had a gs and could have brought along tanks just to be sure. gg and hopefully we can play again later.

Crappy start for sure. 12 tile island and no gold. Could have stopped playing after 5 turns but had to try. Hoped to get one city at 22 techs and cruiser fleet, but that didn't happen. Had little to no gold and could not wait. gg

3 games in and lost all of them with a start from hell. Fun anyway.

1st game against jackofallcivs, my japan vs his india. this game was a non-starter for me. i picked up 35 gold, but butted right up against his warrior in 3700. he was already 3 spaces from his cap it looked to me. i had to retreat back to the original area, as there was only 1 other tree between us. he took 1 barb between us, and choked me out from the 2nd. i had to hammer a WA and win a 3-3 just to take it. it got me inf for my WA and i rushed a galley as i knew i was done for without a miracle. i saw egypt and hoped to find it under defended, but instead i found an AA and one of jack's 3 HA's lingering about. i quit right then as it was late and i knew he'd be coming for me shortly. there would have been nothing i could do to stop what he was bringing. as a sidenote he took down athens before i found him at egypt.

gg dan. not a lot you could have done there. As is becoming increasingly common in these tourney games - it's decided by the start and not the skill.

got in 5 games. 1st 2 against duke my romans vs his germans, and my french vs his egyptians. the roman game started promising. i walked in on spain for nav, while he took america. i sent my 1st horse north towards egypt, with a nice 3 flag barb to train on. i took it down twice, but he won a button race and took the barb. he took egypt soon after, and it started going south. i readied a galleon and was sending a 2nd settler to it, along with my HA. if i had only moved it instead of waiting at anchor for the settler i would have seen his HA approaching on a galley. he landed it and sold the galley. i swung around to try to kill the HA with mine, but a march WA showed up and took madrid before i could jump in. i settled my 2 cities and tried to sneak up on him with the HA. before i could he took rome for the game. in the next game i had about as good a start as i could have with france. i got a number of nice cities including berlin. i couldn't press him in time, instead relegated to keeping his KA's at bay. he started teching way ahead and i called it. no way i was catching up.
against liam it was my germans vs england, and my egypt vs russia. i started well as germans, but slow. i took rome and thebes w/oracle. i was settling some nice cities on cattle, and was just getting warmed up when he snuffed me. must have had some double dye/library cities (at least 1 by zimbabwe) he came to thebes with a KA and galleon fleet. he would have taken rome next, and then berlin, all in a neat row down the shore.
2nd game i walked north, picking up 25 gold. i couldn't find 2 forests, and on the 3rd turn he settled and took my settler. game/set/match.
played my 2nd vs preyforme, my india vs his rome. this time i get the luck i need earlier. barb gives me a galley and a drop on russia. 1st HA take japan. another HA is about to take tripoli, while my 1st takes a roman city (attacking with 22.5, fundy/inf./hill) i sold the arabs a tech and then got math from them, but it didn't matter as he saw the writing on the wall and left. i took rome 2 turns later, getting the 5th cap in around 400 bc.

I'll update it when I get up tomorrow.

    Played 2 vs liam.

My germans vs his indians & a greek mirror match.

The first game turned out pretty good. I moved a couple of turns and settled a balance spot nect to a barb with 10 gold. The barb yeilded a galley and showed me the School of Confucius. I waited a turn to put the warrior on the galley which netted me a drop in on Rome. I also found washington so built the army to try for that but they were first to 100g and had an AA, so took the 100g city. Met Liam at a barb and lost against the odds with my warrior.

I get a GH & GA from Confucius. Liam takes down Athens for Democracy & turns up at the American city I took with HA & KT. Kills my elite army. I use the artist to steal the knights then leave the city for him. Drop the knights off between Athens and another of his cities and promptly lose the stupid KT. My good start looking a bit grim now. all I have is 2 pop Rome and 2 pop Berlin with no gold (still 2 elite armies).

Switch to Republic and slow build a few cities, working gold gets me the 100. Buy barracks and a few elite warriors. USA does a walk out so I grab Washington. March army gets me a city liam planted close to rome and democracy, so go all out tech to Knights. 14-3 down or something. I manage Feud just as Liam kicks off in fundy, but not before he takes out a Legion army with his knight army. He dropped in on one of my cities close to berlin, a few battles here with him victor taking down my knight army, but I had one working at the original US city and another 2 in his heartland. Quite a few battles with Knights and Cats, But eventually I broke through, and with the help of some roads he built, my injured knights won the day. GG.

Greece vs Greece - I get a walk in on Beijing, build some horses. He galley drops Beijing, re-take with the horses. He Gets Tripoli for Fundy? Buillt some settlers. find the ark and then 7C. Liam lost his HA and quit. Think I had 5 2 pop cities, about to pop irrigation and then I can pull another from each in republic.

i looked thru the posted results and didn't see him using 2 greeks. what i did see was him using 2 english. the 1st game against prey, and against my germans. he hasn't posted on our games. i'd like to here his confirmation of using them twice.

Next game is my Romans against his Spanish. I move settler and get a hut which shows me a nearby close barb. I move settler north and can see his warrior below the barb. I wait for him to attack it and then settle above it and attack 1 flag to take it for thirty gold with cow underneath! I rush another warrior and he attacks the injured warrior and loses 1 vs 0.67 (very unlucky). I make the vet army and attack Madrid 4.5 versus 2 and win.

Next game is my Greece versus his HGB Egypt. I move settler south one tile to reveal fish and 3 trees 2 grass and 3 desert. Build 3 warriors and set off for barbs. First one gives me 50g after no injury (jackpot) so I have rush gold if necessary. Well in fact it was necessary as I felt the screen lock up a bit and quickly see a galley enter Greek waters!! I rush as quick as I can as he attacks and luckily get a warrior in there in time so he backs off. There are tons of barbs around me so I make a lot of gold and my 100g settlers settle on a double fish spot to the north.

I grow Athens to 3 and rush two libraries in both cities and easily get to irrigation and more importantly COL before him to give me the trading post in Athens. I find Angkor which is always nice for a bit of culture. I’m now doing 57 science per turn very early and getting lots of gold in overspill. I tech maths/nav and rush barracks and put a cat army with hop on and sail to thebes. He quits this turn but I switch to fundi and take it next turn. I don’t think he had a great deal going on in this game and I had a decent start. Maybe if he had been a little more cunning/quicker he could of taken Athens but it wasn’t to be.

Sutty’s tourney is up and running!

Reading the post of the games between Liam/Prey, it looks like they didn't count the England vs England game and replayed with different civs?

i would propose this as the best solution to the sutty situation. he lost the game with his misused greeks, so a replay is not in order. he has 2 games left, and 3 civs he hasn't used (egypt, france, mongols). i'd say his opponent gets to eliminate 1 of those 3 that he has left. otherwise he would be able to play thru the bracket without using both french and mongols, a benefit the rest of us don't get. i don't see it being much of a burden to him, unless he left an egypt w/collusus in the chamber. we will never know.

I'd rather have a rematch with the civ that Jack chooses from those three left. Otherwise I may not even to get to use egypt which wouldn't be fair either. Sorry I didn't fully read the instructions for the format of this game. I didn't realise we had to use all the diff civs. I could have probably been more tactical in civ selection in hindsight. You live & learn!

    Heh, bet you would

No worries, rematch it is. Greeks are crap anyway, so whatever civ you pick should be a decent match unless you land colossus

What time zone are you in again duke? Tomorrow (wednesday) maybee between 4.30 - 6.30 gmt any good to you?

My Russians took on dan's Mongols.

I started at the very north of map with one friendly in view, I moved for that, settled, rushed warrior and skipped the barb that had been triggered to grow getting a 1 flag barb for 30g. Rush another warrior and tech HBR.

The 1st warrior found Washington at 3300 but no walk in, they were 3 pop so must have used GH. 1st horse takes another barb and i meet the Japanese (south of me). HA takes them down circa 2700bc and the now Vet HA swings back north east for the 4 pop washington.

A horse from Kyoto finds Rome (south west), so rush a second army while the 1st makes it way back. Attack Rome defeating a warrior (getting injured) when dan steps on their other forest with 2 x WA's, so I retreat to keep my HA. Dan takes Rome and CoL.

I have no way past Rome and didn't wan't to risk my vet and non vet armies. Had a good hill point choke to keep him out my area, so a third HA kept watch with an archer. The original 2 armies went on a galley with another archer. Confident my are was secure, I pulled 2 settler from Washington one from Kyoto and another from Moscow giving me 8 early cities.

I take a 2 pop barb town (dan having researched irrigation), but promptly lose that HA to dans. I picked up the KT on route to the next and gallop that into another 3 pop barb town. pull a settler and put an archer there hoping to flip his HA as I got a GA, but didn't get the option when he took it back. Onto the next 2 poper (gaining a tech every time) and decide to set up some defence now i'm both sides of his empire. He attacked my KT on a hill and lost his HA against the odds then quit.

GG Dan, that was a pretty good start as they go for the mongols, unfortunately, I was super lucky again with my own start.

it was a bit of a rage quit, as losing 9-4 to your knight seemed a bit much. it was late, and i needed to get back to work today, so i didn't have the patience to ride it out. you had slowed my start with your pestering, and i knew your slow tech start meant you had expanded well. i had a good amount of barb cities, but they were mostly on harsh terrain. right before i quit i got my 100 g settler, and realized there was nowhere to settle him. not one good spot without venturing out beyond rome. the only reason i should have stayed is because my gp was a gl, and karokorum (w/barracks) was surrounded by a huge mountain range. if i could have made it to knights i might have hit you hard, but by then you might have been in modern.
