    H2H Round Robin Tournament - 2012 Group 1 of 6

This Tournament is for Xbox only.

    Rules

    1. This tournament will be conducted in a round robin format. Each player will play two games against each other player in this group for a total of 10 qualifying games. A win is worth 1 point. A loss is worth 0 points. After all qualifying games have been completed, the top two point leaders will advance to the finals. A best of 5 series will determine the winner of this group. The winner will advance to the Championship H2H Round Robin Tournament, a group consisting of all 6 previous or eventual group winners.

Any round robin tie will be broken based upon the H2H records against one another. In the event of a 1-1 split, another game will be played to determine the winner. In the event of a 3+ way tie for the 2nd qualifying spot, one FFA match will decide who advances. In the event of a 3+ way tie for the top qualifying spot, a FFA game will decide the top seed. Another game (FFA or H2H) with the remaining players (not the first FFA winner) will decide the 2nd seed. These games will be considered “finals” and therefore civ selection is deducted from the advancing player's remaining civs. Example – If India is used in a tiebreaker game, that player may not use India in the 5 match finals series. See number 2 below for more information.

    2. No power or semi-power civs may be used (Americans, Arabs, Aztecs, Chinese, Spanish, Zulu). The following is a list of the ten allowed civilizations: Egyptians, English, Germans, Greeks, Indians, Japanese, Mongols, French, Romans, and Russians. Each civ must be played once in qualifying. Civ selection is reset for the finals series.

    3. No Adar.

    4. No democracy glitching. All peace requests must be accepted. All Great Wall requests must be accepted ONLY IF the player with the Great Wall has not attacked that turn. If the player with the GW attacks, he must wait until the following turn to send peace. Please play nice guys.

    5. No pause glitching.

    6. Players alternate hosts.

    7. There is no set schedule on who to play. Please organize your games on this thread or through PM or XBL messages. Please try to complete all games in a reasonable time frame.

    8. Rules are subject to modification up to when the first match has started.

    9. You may not build the Oxford University wonder. Getting it from Angkor Wat is fine.

I'm still alive in the Champions group so I am not sure if that excludes me from this one. If not, put me down again.

I thought the format was a lot of fun.

you can sign up as soon as you have no chance in the champions tourney. I think you need one more loss morte. Or for the rest of us to play a few more games.

I think it probably should for now... but we could debate that.

Glennere & Morte, although technically a different competition, I think we should keep it simple and participate in one RR tourney at a time, there will be groups 2-6 still and who knows how long this will take to fill, the champ group may well be finished?

Jack - look forward to some games, i'm still 0-1 down from the only time we played, not that i'm counting

    What's you tag again?

well id like 2 say that i think this should wait. im thinking that there is only 6 possible champions and only being able 2 participate in a few of those brackets seems unfair 2 overload the last brackets with current champs....but then again that could be our penance for wining a bracket the year before and benifit those that didnt make the cut

i see your point maw, but i don't see it as a totally bad thing. it will ensure at least 1 new participant in the next final. starting now could also be good, as there is no reason why we have to limit these to 1 per year. duke said he had some time in the near future. if he's in, with the guys already on board, it won't be a walkover for anybody. i'm in btw.

Yeah if we can get duke that would be very good. I like the idea of this starting soon because it keeps up the momentum. and as dan says this bracket will have some serious firepower in it if duke and a couple of others turn up.

Hopefully the bracket gets oversubscribed. Then maybe we could have knockout games for bracket places (6th subscribed vs 7th, 5th vs 8th etc)

I can see maws point too, maybe we can just play a bracket for the fun of it.Or wait until the champions bracket is finished so everyone can join. I didn't have time to play in the other brackets, due to work.
I see dans point as well, if duke, zef and some more forum players get on board I don't see how this bracket would be a cake walk IMO.
Anyway whatever happens, happens. In the mean time im down for some player matches, hit me up if you see me online on my Jack account.

Just give it a little time and see if the bracket fills up. Maybe the champion bracket will finish up soon. If this one doesn't fill up without champions, we can open it up to them (us) in a week or two.

What does everyone thing of the format? Our 2010 bracket featured normal best 2 of 3 brackets. Last year I came up with the round robin idea. The round robin's definitely take longer. I am fine with whatever, but I think we should be open to suggestions.

i like the way it was last year (round robin). we just need to come up with some way to speed it up by about 20%. maybe at least 1 euro bracket will help people connect better. we also need to be a little more careful when accepting entrants. seemed like a few non-commited parties joined and jammed things up quite a bit when they where hard to connect to.

in terms of format you might want to consider a rule like
"the lowest ranked player's results would be elimnated" at a specific point in time or somthing like that... Because it seems so often some guy looses 8 and then cant be found for the last 2 games that he needs to play (nnngghhh)

I played preforme (forum) last night. First game we were English versus English. I went horse route whilst he went dye/library route I can only imagine at the rate he was teching. Took me a while to get the HA together but had choked him off to the north. I take down 4 pop Karakoun plus two 2 pop mongol cities. There were four seperate dye spots between me and Karakoun so I started pumping settlers out of the mongol cities and attack Greece to the north. He seems to have had a great start and I rushes Collosus with a GB. My gp comes a bit later but it's a scientist which I use for nav to carry on expansion. I lose my horse army 9 vs 7.5 to Greece (I tried to retreat but left it too late).

Not to worry I have the entire mainland to carry on expanding. I hit democracy with 8 cities and catch him up at about invention 16 techs each when I think I accidentally froze the game by pressing R1 (Or its xbox equivalent) at the end of the turn trying to make peace with Greece. I can’t say whether I would of won or lost this game but I didn’t look in any danger then again for all I know he’s built 6 knight armies but anyway we decide to restart.

Next game is my Romans against his Spanish. I move settler and get a hut which shows me a nearby close barb. I move settler north and can see his warrior below the barb. I wait for him to attack it and then settle above it and attack 1 flag to take it for thirty gold with cow underneath! I rush another warrior and he attacks the injured warrior and loses 1 vs 0.67 (very unlucky). I make the vet army and attack Madrid 4.5 versus 2 and win.

Next game is my Greece versus his HGB Egypt. I move settler south one tile to reveal fish and 3 trees 2 grass and 3 desert. Build 3 warriors and set off for barbs. First one gives me 50g after no injury (jackpot) so I have rush gold if necessary. Well in fact it was necessary as I felt the screen lock up a bit and quickly see a galley enter Greek waters!! I rush as quick as I can as he attacks and luckily get a warrior in there in time so he backs off. There are tons of barbs around me so I make a lot of gold and my 100g settlers settle on a double fish spot to the north.

I grow Athens to 3 and rush two libraries in both cities and easily get to irrigation and more importantly COL before him to give me the trading post in Athens. I find Angkor which is always nice for a bit of culture. I’m now doing 57 science per turn very early and getting lots of gold in overspill. I tech maths/nav and rush barracks and put a cat army with hop on and sail to thebes. He quits this turn but I switch to fundi and take it next turn. I don’t think he had a great deal going on in this game and I had a decent start. Maybe if he had been a little more cunning/quicker he could of taken Athens but it wasn’t to be.

Sutty’s tourney is up and running!

Nice two-nil start Liam. Need a bit of group consensus here though - Spain are not in this tourney, but you won that game anyway.
