Played a bit today. Started off awesome, then a few players joined and the lag became unbearable. Teleporting, single weapon loadouts, etc. I'm beginning to realize it is my ISP, so I will begin pricing how much to unpackage my ISP from my television and get cable for the innerwebs. AT&T DSL just isn't doing it anymore.
I've played (and hosted) Bio matches with my console at my house (cable: 24-32mbps down, 14-22mbps up) and at another house (local phone company DSL: like 2 mbps up and down) and I noticed very little difference. If anything, it seemed like the local phone company DSL was a bit less jittery... but I haven't done any scrutinizing bandwidth tests from the DSL at the other house, just basic up/down numbers.
Sooo, what I'm saying is; more bandwidth doesn't mean godly MP game connections. at my house I get higher bandwidth than my workplace with 2 bonded T1's, but the local DSL gives me a very comparable P2P MP game experience compared to my super-macho cable connection. It all depends on how the ISP is routing the signals between all the other ISP's involved.
The only reason I would explicitly recommend the higher bandwidth option would be if there's other internet traffic going to/from your house while you're playing online. The only reason I haven't opted for a lower-bandwidth package from my cable company is that often while I'm playing there's another room in the house watching HD content from netflix or downloading large files.
So, as long as you don't have to sign a long-term contract it might be worth you giving the cable provider a try... But, I would advise you not to expect a night/day difference... I just hate to see people's hopes dashed when something isn't logically as better as it should be.

just like the first record number of kills in a CTS match I ever had... 45-9, and my team lost... I beat that on the xbox with 50-15, and I actually got my team to win that one... and I was a good sport.. I only grabbed one capture, after that I just defended my teammates. we won 2-0
It's not just the game. I have been unhappy lately with the speed even while surfing. Given that I am paying for 10MB download, I just don't expect web pages to take as long loading as what they have been the past few weeks. I've been seeing a definite degradation in service. The game is just a really obvious manifestation of that, as my online gaming has become considerably more laggy during that time.
The key will be quite simply price difference. I'll check the costs and weigh the decision.
The other 2 factors would be the age of your modem and the wiring in your house... As for the wiring, I think that's the bulk of my problem, but it may be a contributing factor in your house...
Although... If DSL's are like cable modems, they have a shockingly short lifespan... if you've had the same DSL modem for more than a few years, google the model to check it's lifespan... It never hurts to check all the possibilities before you start going off on the internet tech support... after-all, the tech support people rarely know anything about IT crap... god bless them scripts...
New low in BS2. Great, highly competitive group of level 40s and 50s except for one level 50 yahoo on our team who did nothing but join the session to sacrifice himself to the other team in an attempt to sabotage the game. At one point, I was using TK to draw the rocket turrets away from him as he was just standing in front of it. He gave the other team about 12 kills, didn't kill a single person, and then ran when the game was about over. Funny thing is, he failed both times as we edged out the win both games he tried this. What a child. PM me if you want this degenerates PSN name.
Oh definitely. I even had a theory that the other team was communicating with the player to go in and die 18+ times, or at least a certain few members. Funny how they could barely break 300 kills on their side without such boosting.

The house is about 5 years old, I had AT&T for maybe three. I had them out about six months ago and he checked all the wiring and connections and replaced some of it. To his credit, he was here 3 to 4 hours working it. So I would think that isn't an issue. I may just be on the outer edge of the range to the main junction box. Somebody always is. That may be the issue, who knows? I did check, and my bill for TV goes up $10 a month if I dump their internet. The higher speed cable internet (double what I have now) would be $10 less a month for a year, than $10 more. So year one would be break even, then it would go up $20. Double download speed, four times the upload speed. So I'm mulling it all over.

hhmmm. I've never seen him with a party. Maybe that's why he never stays in the lobby with my stacked team. He'll join and leave so many times in a row that I made a little game out of it... When I see him join the lobby I say the word "douchebag" before he leaves again. Sometimes he's too quick for me to finish saying it before he's out again. It's kinda like whack-a-mole, but with a rage filled douchebag instead.
I am glad the sabotaging degenerate is hated by so many people on this board. When people PM'd me on who he was, the response was always: "Yeah, that guy is a douche".
He vary rarely teams and if he does it is with 1 other person (not me, he hates me). Usually he jumps in and out until he finds a match he thinks he can win.
IDK if I was in this match, but I killed him 3-4 times because I usually hunt him. I also killed fish several times. I think I was playing on my alt account though, but I remember a match where you guys had a dream team: fish, honda, SsAaUuLl, veryfriendly, and the guy we are talking about.
If he was ever on the same team as me, it's because he joined the match and ended up with us or vice versa. I've never partied up with him.
Felt like a major D-bag last night because of my earlier matches, I even RQ'd as host (hangs head in shame). As the night went on I finally got those rusty gears moving thanks to my friends. Ended up ending the night with two very solid matches. Some guy kept on hunting me down with the pistol. Me and another player had a constant battle for a machine gun turret in Mercury Suites. I can't remember his name but I give you a good thumbs up. You made my night.

Another lag filled session. Game will start out ok, but as soon as I get in a room with three or four others, I begin teleporting, doors don't open, etc. Time to dump DSL and go with cable. Hate paying bills to separate companies, but it's just getting unusable.
That's what I did and I also think that's what threw my game off. I got used to the lag. With a cable modem I hardly had any at all last night.
Not really a vent, but I found my first legit AG match. It ended just as quickly as it started, once some jerk came in blinding people and shooting nades like a madman.
Other than that, all other matches were fine. Except this one CW match where once I got in the game, I got clipped/killed. I quitted that match because they were already 45 to 12. Campers are such annoying bastards.
Beat a team that had two really skilled players 4-0, which prompted them to launch into an tirade of racist abuse against the highest-ranking member of my team, who happened to have Spanish as well as English listed as her languages. This went on in the lobby and throughout the next match, during which I was on their team. I left after that feeling like I needed a shower.

LOL, me too! It's just one of the methods I have to preserve the environment. The others are not brushing my teeth or using deodorant... did I mention all my friends are online friends I've never actually met in person? Soap, toothpaste and deodorant (as well as all hygiene products) are killing mother earth, man! and, according to some, we were never meant to cook our food or eat animal products... lol can you tell I deal with a lot of hippie alternative diets in my line of work?

Ugh. So my conection was iffy and I decided to go into a private match by myself to test aero dash and just to see what type of lag I am getting. Well about 2 minutes in I was returned to the title screen and it said I lost my connection to the playstation network.
I determined that my roommate took the laptop (also wireless) out of sleep and I believe that is the problem.
Does anyone know if there is a way to prevent that from happening? I already unplug/plug in my router before I play.
