A heartfelt Thank You to the teams and developers who made BioShock 2.
First, let me start this by saying Thank You to any team member and developer who had a role in crafting one of the best game experiences I recently had the privilege of completing in all my years of gaming, BioShock 2.
I know I'm a bit late to the party, since the game has been out for over a year, and I'm not sure if the developers ever read these posts, but, in the chance that they do, I wanted to come and post this message in the related forums to show my appreciation to those behind the game.
I really hope this game was a success for your team and all those involved, and I also hope you are all proud of the excellent game you crafted.
I'll admit, before playing this game, I was a bit skeptical that a sequel would be able to deliver on the quality of the original BioShock, which is one of my favorite games of all time. But once I finally gave it a chance and played through the game, I discovered your team delivered a sequel that not only lived up to my lofty expectations and hopes, but actually exceeded and surpassed them in ways I wasn't expecting. You managed to deliver what I consider the best sequel possible in addition to a story that stands well on it's own as one of my favorite game experiences.
You deserve praise for delivering a well crafted story, and more importantly, strong characters that resonated with emotion. Over the years, I've played through a good deal of titles that have been cited as having the best stories and characters in gaming...and I'll say that BioShock 2 is now at the top of the list.
Where the first game introduced me to the mystery and wonder of the place that was Rapture, for me BioShock 2 managed to expand and go much deeper by exploring the people in such a great way...thanks in part to the amazing voice cast who played the various roles.
I especially loved the character of Eleanor Lamb, who was brought to life in such a fantastic way by actress Sarah Bolger, who really infused her with human emotion that gave the character a real tangibility, who in turn gave the player's character real purpose. I hope you consider her for future projects, because she really did an outstanding job as the voice of Eleanor.
I now consider Eleanor Lamb one of the best AI companions I've ever encountered in a game. Despite only actually being with the player during the final hours of the game, it was one of the rare occasions where as a player I felt a real bond with an NPC companion character. In fact, it was the short time with Eleanor that ranks among the best I've experienced in a game.
I also want to give praise to the superb ending I received, which was one of the most touching and satisfying endings I've ever encountered in a game..especially how the themes experienced throughout the storyline all came together in an intelligent and thoughtful way.
I received the Good Ending, the one that coincides with the Savior Achievement, and it was one of the few times where I've truly been satisfied and emotionally moved by an ending. It was one where the actions, efforts, and choices of my character throughout the game really paid off and where my goal of rescuing Eleanor and seeing her escape Rapture and safely make it to the surface with the rescued Little Sisters came to fruition in a rewarding way that was all the more meaningful. I found the ending I received and the positive outcome of these characters I had followed so touching and moving that I rewatched it multiple times after completing the game.
I also can't forget the wonderful score that Garry Schyman composed, which really added heart to the whole experience. I look forward to him appearing on future projects with you guys.
Upon recently completing the main game, I happy purchased the Minerva's Den DLC (which I can't wait to play), as well as the Protector Trials, in an effort to give my support to the team for delivering such a fantastic game experience...and I've managed to encourage other friends who are into gaming who have yet to play this game to go out and get it.
Sorry for such a long post...I could go on and on with the praise I have for BioShock 2, but I want to conclude this post by saying Thank You once again to all those involved in the development and production of BioShock 2 for delivering such a compelling and excellent game, one that stands tall a shining example of how games can be art and resonate emotionally.
