Why cant i get 50 food production

hi, this is my second game and i've done everything to get 50 food production for my farmers.

I have a 45Food pastry 1 square away from the home, a granary next to house and happiness is "ecstatic".

i've also tried the orchard setup whis is a +45 Orchard in the water, a house next to it and a granary near the house. the house also have "ecstatic" happiness but no luck i cant get past to 20 food production.

i also have 5 prophets so i have %25 food bonus even without the wonders.

    What am i doing wrong?

    You're not doing anything wrong.
You need a higher modifier. Get more prophets. Get wonders which boost food production (Stonehenge and Magna Carta). Adopt a civic which increases food production. Build Hanging Gardens to increase happiness. Wait for a better era.

i see thanks for the info, also do you thinki farming culture is a good option for getting prophets, or should i just stick to increasing population by focusing on farming?

No. Farming culture is hardly ever a good idea. If you want prophets, wait for the price to get low and simply buy them. Or go for the puzzle when the price is high.
Also, why do you really care if you have a farmer 50+?

Then part of that goal needs to be acquiring as many great prophets as possible.

At first, I thought you meant a single food square with 50 production (e.g. Orchard on grassland surrounded by water)...

...but I guess you mean a single farmer with 50 production. To get that, look for the screenshots of people that I've seen with 38+ Great Prophets (and city sizes of like 20+) to get the picture of what you have to do... Good luck!

In those cities with 17 or more population, they are no longer all single farmers. Some of them are actually 2 farmers in the same house. So unless those doubled houses are at 100+, the 50 efficiency farmer goal still hasn't been met.

There was a thread about this... dude with a double-Farmer house at 100+ posted a bug report that the icons can't show 100+ production figures. Let me find it and I'll edit with link...

you will need about 20 great prophets, two wonders that +25 grow, and +25 grow from your civic, then your max out farmer will be farming more than 50 foods. btw, 5 prophets is nothing......

    Thanks for answers,

so my biggest goal is having maximum number of prophets.

So what are your strategies about getting propehets, what is the best strategy for getting them?

i mean having 50+ prophets is an expensive task?

Usually when the game first starts prophets are cheap (~1-2k) but they will go up in price as the game progresses. Watch the market, prices go up and down from the game and people selling/buying.

Try to cash in your culture for GP at strategic times. If you want great prophets, cash in your culture when prophets are the most expensive so you know you'll get one, OR when the sell price of the most expensive person is higher than the buy price of a great prophet. (that way you'll be able to buy a great prophet and make a little money!)

From my observation, if you manage to get 50-orchard, then you're going to need +150% bonus to food production. That's only 30 prophets, which can be done. If you adopt a good civic and are in a civilization which has stonehenge (especially once it goes obsolete and can't be stolen anymore), than even 20 prophets should be enough.
