    Unhappy Bioshok crashes on startup

So I bought BioShock and Installed it, I needed new drivers on my 7900 GTX so I downloaded a new driver. Then I tried to play but it crashed on startup, it doesn't show anything when I start it, just after 10 seconds an error occurded and BioShock.exe was closed down.
I tried re-installing my old driver but gave the same error, what is wrong here??
I got the minimum requirements tried to take out the intro and stuff by putting -nointro after the Target in the shortcut (found that on this forum).
Nothing helped, what the HELL is wrong?!?

Sounds like you are using Windows Vista. If thats the case try doing the following :

    Comp mode

Try runing the game in Windows XP Compatability mode.
    - right click on the shortcut for the game
    - left click on properties
    - click on the Compatability tab
    - tick the box called "Run this program in compatability mode for"
    - select Windows XP (SP2)
    - click on apply
    - click on ok
Did this allow the game to work?

What are the rest of your system specs

Thanks for the details about the video card, but as visual as this game is, we cannot assume its going to be related to the video. Give us some more indepth system details please :

Please provide with us the following information about your setup

    CPU :
    Windows Version :
    Memory:
    DirectX Version :
    Graphics Card Name :
    Graphics Card Memory :
Graphics Card Driver Date & Version :
    Sound Card Name:
Sound Card Driver Date & Version :

You can find this information by going into the 'dxdiag'. Please click on the "Start" button --> "Run". In the next box type in 'dxdiag' and select the 'Ok' button.

This will bring up the "DirectX Diagnostic Tool". Most of the information you need is on the first page, and then on the "Display" Tab.
Let us know this information so we can help you.

Also note the requirements for this game which are located on the following page:

My XP is dutch (hate it, but programmers had to install it dutch...) so error occurs in dutch, it says it closed down and they can send a report to Bill Gates and his Mates to improve their services...

Try deleting the games configuration file :

    C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows Username>\Application Data\Bioshock\
Delete the content of this folder.
Then start the game again. Did this work?

The full mod name is visible if you click on "Als u de inhoud van dit foutenrapport wilt weergeven - klikt u hier".
Should say "Modname=" What is this?

The only Bioshock related objects I could find were located in the Windows Folder, and hotlinks...

The appdata folder is hidden by default. You have to enable "show hidden files and folders" to find em. Search "show hidden" in windows help to see how to do that.

If you type this in to the run prompt you should be brought to the folder to delete tho:

    %appdata%/bioshock

Well I thought I'd check once more if I got a reaction on my problem, I tried downloading new drivers (yeah new ones are released for my card again) and again the same problem.

So if anyone got an idea, I'll be checking again later...

Got bioshock to work after the following i was having the similar crashing problem during startup.

Uninstalled video drivers completely and removed all entries
To remove goto add and remove software and unistall all ATI entries.
After unistall use cccleaner & then delette any directorys or folders left behind.
You'll have to reboot during the uninstall process.
Once you've removed the drivers install the proper drivers.

Can find them here ATI Link, and Nvidia Link

    DirectX
    Reinstalled latest Directx 9.0c Link

    Bioshock
Uninstalled bioshock & reinstalled the game

I didn't install the patch this time either.

Game works now with no crash
