    Fed up

I thought the problem was fixed yesterday when I uninstall and then reinstalled Civ 5. Now It won't start b/c it says there is a compatability issue...seriously. It's been almost a year now and there are still issues like this hanging around. I have said nothing this whole time waiting for the game to be fixed but I can see that we are still along way off. I am really disappointed at this game and the way the company has been "updating and patching"...more like duct tapeing and glueing. Can someone please tell me if there is a fix for the fix????

Since I can't delete this post...please don't waste your time in responding. I'm just going to chalk this game up as a loss and waste of my time and money. Thanks anyway.

Most of these "issues" that are "hanging around" is User Error.

If youd like help, you will still receive it, despite your attitude

User error...lol. I clicked on Civ 5 to play and it updated itself then quit working....so yea I guess it was my fault. If you have nothing to say that will help then dont bother writing anything here.

If you don't describe your problem, there's nothing we can say to help you.

He did describe his error. He double clicked the game, it updated, now it won't launch complaining its incompatible. Even I understood that.

have you tried using both versions of direct x ? sometimes when a game updates or patched it makes changes to the config, so if you were running the game under a compatibility mode or different resoultion etc then it may have changed it to default.

also I understand some of what your saying about the game not being fixed, for while i've been reading the posts on here without registering to comment but i've had enough of spending time on civ 5 and having the game be unplayable due to the turn not being able to end , i made a post of it yesterday and no one bothered to answer so yes this game has issues that are not user related , won't be long before it's reported to trading standards and the company won't be allowed to sell anymore of it's games unless it takes a better approach to fixing the game.

I've uninstalled Steam and reinstalled it and the game. When I click on the Civ V icon I no longer get the option of choosing which Direct X version to play it just goes straight into Dx9. So it is playable but not how it should be. I did read that other thread about this and did what they said to do but it didn't help me either.

And my apologies for having a poor attitude and thanks for responding.

No, he didnt, the issue he is describing is so vague, as to be indecipherable.

Please start with posting your DXDIAG, there is a few simple fixes for this, depending on what your DXDIAG tells us.

Ok, one of your executables, can't tell whether it is Steam, or Civ5 has been set to compatibility mode for i believe, windows XP.

If you right click, and select properties on the exe files, you may find which one is causing the issue.

I found the executable for steam and it says win 7. I can't find the Civ 5 exe. Also how do you put images here so I can show what I'm talking about?

  14. #14
Above the section where you type your reply is a button called insert image.

I click on the insert image but there is no way to insert a picture, it asks for a url.

  16. #16
Sorry, the Image needs to be uploaded to a webpace that you own in order to embed it.

Most ISPs give you a small amount of webspace to use.

When a file is not using compatibility mode, the drop down box should be disabled. Ensure that the check box for the option "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" is clear (not ticked)

The executable for Civ5 should be located at [Steam installation folder]\steamapps\common\sid meier's civilization v
[Steam installation folder] is the location of the Steam.exe file

There are two civ executables, "CivilizationV.exe" and "CivilizationV_DX11.exe", so check them both. It might also pay to check the executable "Launcher.exe" in that same folder. Executing that should display the menu which allows selecting between DX9 and DX11

If your ISP doesn't supply any web space for the image as suggested by QuantumTarantino, you can just use a web based image storage site like http://photobucket.com/, upload it there, and use the link it supplies for the image in the post

I found the files where you said they would be and made sure they were "unchecked" for compatability mode. It is working fine now. As far as the images I emailed support for help. Thanks for everyone input. Hopefully soon they will make this game as good as it should be!!!
