    Games get... boring?

Anyone else feel like games tend to stall out as they go later, that there really isn't any intense action, just the slow build up until the final two victories?

I feel like games are more fun early, before one civ pulls ahead. Also, there tends to be less to do later on. Great persons tend to be less useful toward the end of the game. Your city is all set up. There just isn't that much to do.

This has been my feeling too. Buildings are completed and most games decided anyway about half-way through, so yeah, the 2nd half of games tends to feel a bit boring.

I do agree with your main premise -- that victory has already been decided 1/2 way thru. but i disagree that great persons are less useful towards the end -- they should be what you're working for the whole time.
By year 1900 have at least 12 great scientists for +60% science, then just steamroll through all the techs or go with 12 great builders and conquer everyone -- so yah, basically those that wasted GP's on wonders vs those that horded them. This is a game breaker to me though -- if hording GP's is the winning strategy then it negates most of the team play. If you spend them, then prepare to have your wonder taken from you shortly by another civ (and your GP's are wasted). It basically comes down to: do you want +5% for the entire length of the game, or do you want to trade that for +25% for a few hours (or possibly even minutes).

It is just far more efficient to war and win the battle for the wonders. Works every time, and you get to keep your GPs and get wonders made by other civ's GPs.

yes, definitely agree that games get boring in the 2nd half, UNLESS 2-3 civs are still pretty neck-and-neck with each other. If there's a runaway civ, it's pretty much just a matter of waiting for the game to be over.

But I've found that to be the case in most civ games. Once the Industrial era comes along, time seems to go very slowly, and not much is left to be done, save consolidate your victory.
