    Question Questions about trade agreements

hi, I was just wondering how do we make trade agreements so they appear in the positive diplomatic modifiers? It has only happened to me once, where Elizabeth made me a trade offer which I accepted. I tried to repeat similar trades with other civs throughout different games, some more, some less advantageous for the AI, but the modifier never appeared. Any ideas what is the exact mechanism behind that?

I like fighting wars and all, but I feel a diplomatic game with balanced interactions of peace and war much more satisfying.

I'm still wondering if you can game that modifier if you make dozens of same trades back to back. Like trade 1 gpt for 30 gold, then 30 gold for 1 gpt over and over again in the same turn or across turns to convince an angry AI to be nice at least to continue the empty trading...

The modifier is based on how good the deal is for the AI. It also drops over time. So 30 deals of 1 gold each are the same "goodness" as 1 deal for 30 gold, except that the 30 deals will decay faster. Thus, you can't really game it. Also, if the deal is break even for the AI, then they won't get any modifier (so I hear tell). So 30 gold for 1gpt won't do anything.

Secondly, to get the bonus, the AI really does need to be happy with the deal. Accept the offers they propose, or offer up a resource and accept whatever they suggest to pay for it. You can also gift them stuff, that helps quite a lot.

Gifting resources, gold, or even cities can give you a huge bonus.
