New "end game replay" is pants innit?

just completed my first game after the patch . . . .

    not impressed by the replay

    Am I alone?

seems a bit wishy washy and generally rubbish

put on yer biggest pair o boots and give me some jibber jabber fools . . . .

    however . . . . .it is an improvement . . . . . .but a rather slack one

    What's wrong with it?
    I quite like it.

Although I'd like to see two improvements.
    1. A 'zoom in'-mode for the graphs or something like that.
    2. A link between messages and the map.

Title translation for Americans and others:

The new "end game replay" is lame, isn't it?

I'll admit, I had trouble with the title at first, mostly the "innit", until I just read it aloud to myself with a little accent, lol. Silly me...

As Anandus said, I like it too and would just like to see a few improvements added. Mainly the zoom-in feature added to the graphs.

As an aside, anyone want to give us the origin of "pants" in this usage...have seen it used this way before but assuming its a recent addition to the Queen's English.... certainly don't see it in use on the other side of the pond nor down under (but I suppose we could start!).

    Thanks, got the context but....

Nah, it does about what I expect from a replay. I can sit and watch and remember when I "fought those two wars at once" or analyze a bar-graph. Its simple, but I only wanna spend 45 seconds there anyway. Could be cleaner, but I don't much care.

I think the messages should be visible at the same time as the map; no other strong criticism.

what I end up saying about the replay in my Rome LP at the end is much less forum friendly than what I can say here.

It was potentially two things that happened:

    a) an intern did it as a side project
    - it really does not look like a proper developer did this as everyone who ever coded a graph knows that they'll get in trouble for not scaling or allowing some sort of 'rescale' when the outliers are removed or 'zoom' to check 'massed' data points when the scale is 1000 time bigger than the area you want to see.

Try viewing anything of just the city states. All of their numbers are so low, that they are effectively just a line at the bottom of the graph that you'll never see. But they are available to look at (as important as major civs on the left panel)

Or try viewing early game information on the graphs when there's a runaway or you made a massive empire. The end numbers are so great, that even if you remove the 'high' number civ it won't rescale to show you the rest. (leaving upwards of 25%-90% of the graph space blank)

    b) What was shown by the developers was the 'skeleton' version, with obvious basic features missing, but it got forced into the patch anyways by management despite the objections of the developers.

both a) and b) could be true, but either was bad.

I have to agree its a bit half-assed.

The messages and the replay should be together. They were in Civ IV, werent they?
The graph loses its appeal being inside the tiny box. Make it full screen!
    The graph should be zoomable.
Is it just me, or is the responsiveness of the drop down list on the graph really slow?
Oh yeah, make the drop down list itself bigger. Show me all the options so I dont have to use a minuscule scroll bar.
I liked the "Top 5 Cities" in Civ IV. Bring that back.

I think they should have left replays out. The 'fans' complain about EVERYTHING, so what's the point in trying to improve the game?

Yes, I agree. I would also make the replay map bigger too.

This is a stupid comment. There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism. And the "fans" dont complain about everything, the forum is filled with positive comments too. Your criticism is hardly constructive.

They reason they've been able to improve the game is because of constructive feedback (some may call this complaining) which I think the Dev's really appreciate.

Certainly, there are the rant threads that exist but that's not what I'm referring to.

Constructive feedback: The color overlay for each nations teritory draws over sea tiles. If you play an earth map for example, then you will end up with 2 big fat blobs of color - all minor lakes or narrow seas have been erased. Wouldn't it make sence to only color land-tiles?

crosshairs should do a little more. sure they indicate the year but then i'e got to interpolate between 1675 and 1947 to find the year. cosmetics

at the very least, it should have a tooltip showing the year/value of the point you hover over.

    From the Wiktionary

    Adjective

pants (comparative more pants, superlative most pants)
1.(UK, slang) of inferior quality, rubbish. Your mobile is pants — why don’t you get one like mine?

    Translations

    of inferior quality

    Abbreviation

    innit
1.(UK slang, as a tag question) Abbreviation of isn't it. That’s what I said, innit?
2.(UK slang) Used as a replacement for any negative tag question, irrespective of person, number, and verb. You like listening to pop music, innit?

i definitely thought "pants" meant "good" before I opened the thread...not sure why.

I could go either way about the replay... yes it's nice, yes it could be improved. the graphs could be better, and some of the options seem far too specific and should be eliminated so you can just see the core ones like power, score, land etc. And yeah, messages should be on same screen as the replay, obviously. i assume this will be patched in the future...

Thanks for the translation, I'm pretty sure I speak the Queens English too, but regional slang is another thing

Interesting thing about 'innit' is that it's very close in meaning and fairly close in construction to the French "n'est-ce pas", though the latter is conventional language and the former is slang. If you really want to understand it in a way that's usually grammatically valid, think of it as expanding to "is that not so".
