Moving settlers onto boats?

I have settlers in cities that I want to load onto boats but can't break the code on how to do it. Anyone help?

Any boat aside from Submarines will do the trick
Just put the boat next to some land the settler is on and "move" the settler to the tile the boat is on: this will make the settler enter the boat and deplete the settler's movement for that turn.

Yea, I did the complete opposite
->Played civ V, wound up starting on an island and spend about 1000 years trying to find out why my units wouldn't board my ships!!!!

Even went for cruisers just to make sure there'd be enough room....
Carriers for my bombers added to my confusion untill I FINALLY made a misclick and ended up making an arty boat
->Sank vs a barbarian boat tough >_>
