I posted 800 AD. Not so bad, few mistakes, especial Industr. 850/860and of course 0 GB. It's my 1st game without knowing map but i got gold from almost all huts.
1600 AD
Pretty fun game this week.
I'm assuming it's cool to take other caps?
From Mapawks other post he said he liked borders expanding and blowing cathedrals so it kinda sounded like no caps. But if sky's the limit...
1550 A.D.
If I had known then what I know now...![]()
Fail! I put all my eggs in one basket (knight armies) and watched it all dissapear with some "luck" from the computer. (lost a 28vs 18, wich gave them a general, witch then killed my other Ka and my HA...) Still managed a 16xx but pretty sad...![]()
1250AD w/ 25 cities & local maps from huts (my favorite)
I actually wasn't able to take any caps (or cities of any kind) due to early Dem and no one declaring war with me.
1750AD no GS.
Lost direction, and fought wars etc. Fun but![]()
1050ad, not bad for 3 humanitariuns , thhats a gd time bacon considering you fought no1
Thanks. There's a good reason why I didn't fight, but I'll wait in case anyone hasn't played yet. Don't want to give any spoilers (although, if you read between the lines I may have already spoiled)
no its not that bad but 1 would be enuf!id rather have 3 scientists.... i had a dumb GL aswell
I completely agree. Hence my question/confirmation. However, I didn't want to assume it was simply a mis-translation. Perhaps he was trying to say something else altogether. Nothing calibrates as accurately as explicit author confirmation imo.
On the more interesting side is how similar the structure is to many of Morte's posts. Is this because of the origins of the languages involved & the differences relative to English? Seems plausible but I'd have to research more to answer for myself.
In any case, my question is a genuine confirmation request. The Morte comment was meant in a light-hearted endearing way, nothing sinister.

Absolutely agree! Both of them do incredible things in their respective domains. Kadera is the only player I've ever seen to even remotely come close to RickWJ's mastery of GOTW. Honestly, I'd have to see them compete head-to-head to determine which is better. RickWJ was a freak of nature too(although he was strictly domination). I don't think I ever beat him when he still played GOTW, although I do think I tied him once. He quit playing GOTW on CivRev due to boredom eventually. Maybe I can convince him to come back to give Kadera some competition...

Pedal2Metal
would be good to see him, but when it comes to non dom it is a bit of a different beast and I cant see anyone beating Kadera.
Rick would just compete in Dom i guess - and thats not 100% what Kadera attaches his ego to
BTW was he normally playing deity or another level? or all levels like Kadera?
Yeah, I think Kadera is at the edge of possibility for non-doms. I'm guessing the times are largely incompressible. I've still got to study the videos he sent me so I can improve in non-dom.
RickWJ only played Deity. He thought it was more sporting to allow others to go for the other difficulty levels. I tend to agree but understand the temptation to do otherwise. I tried to get all of them sometimes. I think the most I ever got was 3 1sts & 2 seconds. BTW, he won the Deity GOTW competition back when the game was fresh. He won every single week. You can check the records somewhere on the web. They used to post the maps for GOTW as well.

Pedal2Metal
Yup I've read lots of the historyI guess that it was on Deity was just implied so i figured I would check.
I find that sort of thing interesting. I wonder how good mrGameTheory and Grumbles69 and others might be.
The comment about being sporting is a bit like how i see it. I feel a bit guilty smashing the time of some guy who was trying king and got first on the board maybe after some long running comepetition with the other king guys...
sometimes I feel guilty smashing the deity guys, I even felt guilty beating Kadera.
Geezzz Ive got some sort of major guilt problem haven't I !!
LOL! Might be a bit scary to think what you might do w/o a guilt complex...

No. But many times i only need few libraries (and Americans don't need libraries). 5-pop city = 25 beakers + Electr. +3GH (some workers in city) + some dye, about 35 good cities (5 and 4-pop, +3GH) and you will have 1000 beakers / 1 turn (with no libraries).
Better try it: http://translate.googleusercontent.c...sX0JK23v9ketBgPlz. translate all my post from "polish-english" to "english". It's hard to improve my english while i don't know my mistakes.
Rather RickWJ vs ScottieX. I'm not that superiour good at Dom, i can do very fast scores from Chief to Emperor (30-60 minutes / level).
You shouldn't, i don't take Dom.V. too serious. You can feel guilty with your secret - tons of GB (unfair) but you need Spain on the map (early Nav). Probably i'm 2-4 turns faster at expanding, you are 1-2 turns faster at opening.
i had a few attempts at diety and for the life of me could not get as good a start as i did in this gentlemans challenge where i only had 1 shot!crazy
Well I'm a little upset because I can't take place in this weeks challenge. I'll tell you what happened in my first game after this week's challenge is over. I don't want to spoil anything. I will, however, give everyone a hint. The AI had several techs and units already w/o actually having those techs or the ability to produce those units. Absolutely crazy. I guess the AI does cheat after all.
These scores are outrageous. GF and I played a couple times and when I went to work yesterday she won cultural in 2006 (Deity) UGH!
What am I missing here? Does anyone have links to some opening vids by the studs on this site? I know I'm half decent but obviously in a different class than most of you on here.
Chug,
yeah i was playing a multiplayer game where the ai had legions but couldnt trade IW with me - sure they could trade everthing else but not IW.. and i was germans and desperatly wanted IW (for the last ditch battle). nnghh
No GL on Emperor but Chug E expected low defence, like in multiplayer
AI in multiplayer ~= AI in Warlord & GOTW (or even between Chieftain and Warlord).
AI in multiplayer has warriors for long time, after that 1st archer (non-veteran). I don't play multi but probably they have AA at ~1500 BCVery easy to take few caps.
Warlord's AI has *1st archer at 3400 BC and AA about 2400-2100 BC.
Emperor's AI has 1st archer vet at 3400 BC and AA about 2700-2500 BC (sometimes 3000 BC), and defence 18! King is even faster (due to no legions).
*some civs are faster (Aztecs, Chinese, sometimes Americans and Egypt).
If the AI has BW or IW, why wouldn't it say they have X amount of techs. I know in Emperor they start off w/ a Barracks, but I didn't know they also start w/ BW and IW. Eight turns into the game, the French were showing 1 tech (Pottery), 2 pop, but had a Vet Archer (fully fortified) in their cap and a Legion walking around. My non vet HA won a 6 to 6 battle w/ their archer, but they must've had another unit in there because I couldn't take the cap after I beat the Archer. Then the legion they had walking around beat my wounded (now vet) HA. That's not enough time for them to research those techs, let alone produce 3 units in 8 turns w 2 pop while only working 1 grass and 1 tree. I don't play GOTW very often, but I've never witnessed something like this. It's Mathematically impossible. Please explain?
8 turns? 3200 BC? Maybe they found Spy in hut and teleported Spy to Paris. But 3200 BC is too early (they should have 1 archer). Maybe you played multiplayer before, multiplayer makes glitches for GOTW (SP too).
Yes, it's impossible to have HA at 3200 BCnear Paris (without moving settlers). 3700 BC 1st warrior, 3200 BC HBR or HBR from hut but no money for 3 horses or even HA far to Paris.
Hats off to JRCASH...
For early Dom, look at the game as a match game/puzzle with 20 pieces. The perfect score would be 20 draws with each piece miraculously connecting to the previous, winning in 20 moves/turns. Unfortunately, pieces are undisclosed in the box. As you play you pull pieces out and begin to see possibilities. However, if they don't fit together... they go back in the box. So you win early by the luck of the draw, or you advance one mistake at a time (constantly repeating/do-overs) to unlock the fastest sequence.
This is modified by GPs of course.
For all other victories... you're pandemic city building to get tech advancement down to one turn and beaker overflow to rapidly stock pile gold simultaneously. If we can't or are not willing to build like Kadera, then Dom is the only true competition in the Gent-game (ladies included of course).
Other thoughts on this GOTW: Only read if you are as frustrated as hell over this one...
Look the AI should be tough in Deity (it has all of the advantages discussed above). I'll admit that, but when you can't take a city with only a 24AA defense, attacking with 1Vet KA, 4 LA, each elite, 2 Inf, 1 Blz, 1 Hl/GG, so 5 units with a great gen. , and the French archers pull 3 underdog upsets and get a GG to seal my fate.
This is my 10th time through, going back and forth with different moves and striking Germany or France.
Anyone having this experience w/this GOTW. It seems like the programers were murderous this week...
I applaud/respect Kadera for he must spend exhausting hours to find that exact seed path to upset this AI advantage. It's great he can post spoilers... saving those who use them a lot of time. (Not to mention English is a second language for him & may be a chess master too).
I'm Flemington411... can't get a BC Dom... Shot me now!
Fedderson and Fozzy-
Please keep this thread spoiler free and put posts like that in the regular game of the week thread. This is only for gentlmans challenge.
