Just curious. I have Bioshock for the PC and am wondering if DX 10 makes a big difference for the game. I hate to pay nearly 100 bucks to upgrade JUST for Bioshock... but I want to hear from others first.

IMO not enough of an improvement to justify the upgrade.
If you are expecting to be wowed by Bioshock's DirectX 10 graphics in the same fashion that future games like Crysis or the Flight Simulator X Expansion will, you probably will be disappointed. There aren't that many differences (because Unreal Engine 3 was originally designed when there wasn't a DirectX 10) and the differences that do exist are subtle. The big things are softer shadows, soft particles and ripples in the water, the differences of which you can see at this URL : http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/...ance/page6.asp.

How would anybody really tell.
Not many people here would of actually played the game both with and without dx10.
I'm personnaly running the game on Dx10 using 8800 320 gts.
And there is no question it looks great, but wouldn't of thought my same specs using dx9 would make much difference?
You may see more of a difference in some areas and none in others.
Played it with DX10 and DX0.
DX10 only gives better smoke and water.
No great step forward, you easily can go without it.
So I choosed DX9 to be able to enable AA (not possible with DX10) and to use chabge of FOV with Racers tool.
These 2 points are much more important to me than the very little advantage of DX10.
However this is not surprising as Bioshock was not developed for DX10 but DX9, they just were using 2 DX10-features that were easy to use, ..I asume.
Hell no DX10 sucks.
On DX10 my 8800GTX will use all of its pipelines, so there is a considerable difference. However, Vista is also a big resource hog and I just don't like it, so I don't think I will.
Run both XP and Vista on identical machines at home, definitely no justifiable reason to upgrade to DX10 for this game, DX9 looks practically identical and runs faster. If I didn't have access to Vista licences I wouldn't have bothered with it yet, maybe when the Crysis demo hits it will be a different story.
