It was only a matter of time. It's only money. Even if it's not officially confirmed I'm sure it will be after it's released (but maybe thats why it's been delayed to August? Time to port and release across all three platforms in a shorter period of time to capitalize on sales on all three?)

Is this really new? I think I saw this months ago... And I doubt it's true. BioShock is exclusive to PC and the Xbox360.

Well, "Exclusive" is a smooth word since a while. I think that Microsoft has put in enough money to make Bioshock a 360 exclusive deal. But it seems like contracts are always bound to certain deadlines. I could believe its a "timed exclusive". But then, Microsofts X06 promise is a bit false.

But, nontheless, here a copy of last year's press relase:

2K Announces BioShock as an Exclusive Xbox 360 and Games for Windows title

New York, NY – September 28, 2006 – 2K, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), today announced that BioShock, its highly anticipated and award-winning innovative first person shooter, will be released exclusively on Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Games for Windows, the new brand optimized for Windows XP and Windows Vista. Slated for 2007 and developed by Irrational Games, a 2K development studio, BioShock will forever change the expectations for the first-person shooter.

“2K is excited to release BioShock exclusively on Xbox 360 and under the Games for Windows brand on the PC,” said Christoph Hartmann, President, 2K. “BioShock is the next step in the evolution of first-person shooters and a perfect title to push the limits of Xbox 360.”

”We expect BioShock will set a new mark in next generation gaming when it launches next year,” said George Peckham, general manager, global third party publishing for the Interactive Entertainment Business, Microsoft. “We’re thrilled that gamers will be able to experience BioShock only as an Xbox 360 and Games for Windows title.”

The Games for Windows branding ensures that consumers have a consistent, reliable gaming experience on Windows XP and Windows Vista with easier game installation, improved reliability, and support for key Windows Vista features. These titles will also support wide-screen gaming, can be launched from within Windows Media Center, will be compatible with 64 bit consumer versions of Windows and support the Xbox 360 Controller for Windows.

Taking full advantage of both Microsoft platforms, BioShock takes place among the ruins of an underwater utopia. After your plane crashes into icy, uncharted waters, you discover a rusted bathysphere and descend into Rapture, a city hidden beneath the sea. Constructed as an ideal society for a hand-picked group of scientists, artists and industrialists, Rapture collapsed under the weight of its own idealism. Now the city is littered with corpses, wildly powerful guardians roam the corridors, mutated little girls scavenge the dead, and genetically modified citizens ambush you at every turn.

BioShock is in development for Xbox 360 and Windows and will be released in 2007. For more information please visit www.2kgames.com.

Some people are probably super bothered about this one way or another - I personally couldn't give a monkey's - but to be fair, it'd be wise to wait for an official comment from Irrational or 2K.

OPM is, after all, just a big fat Playstation hype machine for people who only want to be told about the good things in Sony Land.

Plus, I'm sure this exact same debate started circa last September (maybe... don't hold me to that) when they did a similar thing by running a preview. Only for Ken Levine to then announce a month later that it was a Microsoft exclusive.

Wait for the facts. If it is coming out on PS3, Irrational or 2K will sure as hell tell everybody.

It may be the same with what has happened to FIFA and Pro Evolution, its been called an exclusive to X360 for one year, purely because the PS3 wasnt even released. Ive had numerous issues of that magazine and its predecessor, and they rarely make mistakes or lie, we will just have to wait and see

    cant wait =]

@Nick: But the FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer affair happened in the time of GC 2006 in a short period of time. It was mainly a misunderstatement between Microsoft and the other publishers, from what I have heard. In the end it came out that Microsoft's press release wasn't fully correct.

This time its 2k's press release and it was made a while ago.

Wow, thanks for your edit Rature_Tourist, I was kinda right with the September thing. Anyway, ImageShack finally let me view the pictures - the middle one is just wishful thinking on OPM's part. There's absolutely nothing official there at all.

Maybe somebody should pose the question in the Ask the Team forum for an accurate answer from the people that would actually know.

Yeah i suppose i posted a weak argument but you get what i mean.

September 28, 2006 was a long time ago and a lot has happened since. The next issue of OPM - UK is released on the 7th of March so ill see if it has anymore details, but the Internet will beat them to any major news.

Yeah, but normally whatever has happened, it can't break contracts written before.

Of course. I never thought of it like that but it's stunningly obvious.

For Bioshock to be released on the PS3 would be breach of contract. Therefore It won't happen for a very long time, at least until the 'Microsoft-exclusive' contract expires. Just like the last 3 GTA games have had to wait at least a year before seeing the light of day somewhere other than a PS2.

I personally never have liked OPM, or in fact any Official publication. That's a good example of why - unjustifiably poor journalism.

"Update: 2K has just confirmed to us that OPM UK is quoting a press release from after E3 that didn't specify on a next-gen platform. In September, 2K announced Xbox 360 and PC exclusivity via a new press release. OPM is referring to the old press release from May, according to 2K."

Its either a proof of unprofessional editors at OPM UK or a wanted mistake to sell more issues.

So many titles have been "exclusive" only to later be released on another platform 6-12 months down the line. Virtua Fighter 5 most recently, everyone was 100% sure it wouldn't go anywhere else, until the release date for the PS3 version got closer and then suddenly Sega announced it would be coming to X360, and a newer revision of the arcade board no less.

Just because you read a press release that says exclusive doesn't mean it is, unless it clearly specifies "indefinite exclusive" or something along those lines. Because they're not lying ,it IS exclusive when it first releases...

NO! I sincerely hope that Bioshock will not go to the PS3, in my opinion the best games are generally exclusive, and I don't want Bioshock to loose that!

Although I am personally happy to receive this game in August and it play on my 360, I think an optimized version that could only run on a PS3 would be pretty cool as well.

sure, if they worked a whole lot to utilise all of the PS3's cores properly it would run better than a 360

  22. #22
For the love of god, it's not coming to the PS3. OPM UK always posts bull like this to garner attention. I seriously don't know how many times people are going to post this. I feel bad for Elizabeth because she constantly has to come in and reassure us for the thousandth time that it's NOT coming to the PS3. Please, let this rumor die.

If you would like to play BioShock, get an Xbox 360 or a WVista PC.

Yeah this is further proof to never EVER trust an official magazine source. i read the official australian PS mag for a while until i found out just how much lies they were putting into print, not to mention they tried to play down every bad thing (seriously i was raging when the PS3 got delayed and they came out saying it was good as we would have a ton of titles at launch)

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but it was originally a PS3 exclusive. Then it got announced for PC and 360, then canceled for PS3. I feel bad for people that own a PS3 and wanted some Bioshock.

Irrational has never said anything like that.
Bioshock was confirmed for PC and 360 at the first time not PS3.

    Seriously, no PS3 version plz.
Multiplatform games = poor quality, and I don't want to see PC version get watered down because of that.

The game is already multiplatform. How many changes do you belive there would be between the Xbox360 version and a potential PS3 version?

I don't understand the hate towards the possibility of a PS3 version. If there is one then it will obviously come later, thus not affecting the current versions which you'll have played months before the game graces a PlayStation.

Does it really bother you that more people might get the chance to play this game? If you want to support it you should be encouraging other gamers to look it up, not coveting it as some selfish little secret.

Please can a mod close this silly thread-as of yet there is no official confirmation of a port appearing on the Playstation 3,and so what if it does?
The more people that get to enjoy bioshock, the better!

  32. #32
Is it just me or have a lot of Playstation magazines been saying this? It's like they don't understand that it is a 360 and PC exclusive and not a "timed exclusive",

Yea...right. Listen Bioshock is going to the PS3, obviously it is. This has been confirmed by thousands of unreliable sources on the internet, therefore Bioshock on the PS3 is bound to happen. Think about it.

I don't know Microsoft is pretty tough with its contracts...do you really believe that they would let something as good as bioshock go?

    Big change.

Irrational doesn't need to waste their time making the PS3 version if Bioshock stay as PC & 360 exclusive. Therefor, they can concentrate on optimizing the PC and 360 version and there won't be any delay on the release.

To those think that multiplatform games = more money and more fans is wrong.
Just take a look at those crappy Ubisoft games.

According to many unreliable internet sources, Irrational Games is technically Microsofts SLAVE.

This is getting funny, obviously they are making it for the PS3, it will be better that way. Many many (including thousands!!) of unreliable people on the internet have claimed that Bioshock is going to be released on the PS3, and they have quoted an equally unreliable magazine that unofficially did not confirm that Bioshock will be released on the PS3. Therefore it will be released on the PS3. "Nuff Said".
