Lightbulb [RFE] barbarians should give only gold and fame

Currently, when barbarians win, they reduce everybody by 1 population. When we win, only the biggest contributor gets 1 population (or a food substitute).

The food has become an attractor for join/leave exploiters. Instead, distribute 1000 gold to each member of the Civ participating in the battle (similar to other games in the Civ# franchise), and give 1 fame point (and maybe Minister) for biggest battle contributor.

Then, take away any fame (and medals) from players leaving the Civ.

Heck, other proposals for leaving are more draconian, taking their gold and great people, too!

I have some suggestions for Barbarians posted in my warfare post and I disagree with only fame and gold being awarded.

The roaming barbarian hunter exploit is definitely becoming the new "exploit du jour". I use it a bit but some people are just doing it constantly for days. I get a bit annoyed when I see someone doing a posted exploit, that they themselves have not posted, over and over to the exclusion of all else. The purpose seems selfish and not related to beta testing.

In any event, this exploit is a symptom of the broken nation swapping system. Fix that and this exploit will disappear. I will post some possible solutions in a separate thread.

Its amazing what people would consider an exploit when others would consider it just playing the game. Let's call an exploit a clear bug in the game that players take advantage of to receive enormous benefit that others are not aware of to get. Defeating a barb is not a bug. Civ hopping, while annoying is not a bug. Everyone should be aware of both. Therefore civ-hopping to defeat barbs for the minor benefit of a receiving food is not an exploit.

I wouldn't civ hop to attack barbs, because having more than 8-10 population is of little benefit. That players are doing so or annoying other players by doing so i find kind of hilarious. Who cares? Increasing your population more than 10 is pointless, there is diminishing returns from it as cost of new citizens increase. The players civ-hopping to defeat barbs are wasting their time. Let them. Eventually they will figure it out.

Well, I'd consider it still a borderline exploit, because it's taking advantage of a broken mechanic that needs fixing. Currently I'm in a game that had what looked like three competitive civs when I was playing last night - two of them at max players, and one with closed borders. So I was civ-hopping to take out the barbarians because I didn't have much else to do. But...really...it was too easy, too much gain for too little effort.

I think the barbarian award as it is now works fine, but perhaps it should be distributed among all members of a civ, with the "MVP" getting something like a double or triple share. A reduced bonus would also make running around and civilizing all the barbarians less profitable.
