The latest "Harry Potter" book to hit schools across New Marais has stirred up the greatest controversy yet.
    The Debate

    1. "I quite enjoyed the book, until I got to the part where Harry summons evil demons to do his bidding," says religious leader Fleur Broadside. "Now that's just wrong. We need to restore some sense to this debate, by which I mean we should remove this book from the shelves, salt it thoroughly, and burn it."

    2. Teachers union President May Li says, "Come on, the book is fantasy! And it's a damn good read. I'd like the government to issue a statement of support for our teachers and librarians, so kids can enjoy good books without interference from religious wackos, like Christians."

    What The hell?

1."These pikies just rolled onto my field in those caravans of theirs and camped out," says Hope King, the enraged farmer. "And when I tries to run 'em over with my tractor, it's me who gets stuck in the cells overnight!"

LOLLERCOASTER. I think I'm on this guy's side, though. It was his land and the gypsies had no right to camp on it without his permission.

I got that one, too. Some of the results you get in this game really surprise me. In some cases, it's really just the game being biased IMO- I tried to legalize concealed carry guns on planes, and then it said something like "bombs are allowed on planes for the safety of the passengers". What the hell? Then, there was something about minorities not being allowed access into some school (they weren't allowed access because they weren't zoned to the school) and I got a similar result. Zoning is zoning, people.

"Crime -- especially youth-related -- is a serious problem, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons."

Why... why in ☺☺☺☺'s name did the game take away my prisons?

EDIT: "The Republic of Aroubus is a huge, economically powerful nation, renowned for its complete absence of social welfare."

This is getting on my ☺☺☺☺ing nerves. I specifically said in an issue earlier on that the country WOULD have a welfare system, but those on welfare would have to use an extremely limited shopping list.

    Also:

•4 minutes ago: Following new legislation in Aroubus, citizens must pay to enjoy Aroubus's pristine beaches.

EDIT II: Oh yeah, forgot that I have two countries.

The Allied States of Nairouvi is a huge, devout nation, renowned for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 570 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Education. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Nairouvi City. The average income tax rate is 42%, but much higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing, Woodchip Exports, and Information Technology industries.

Bombs are permitted on planes for the 'security of the passengers', billions of Schnürsenkels are being poured into a space program, the government is reining in public spending, and citizens are enjoying a recent large cut in taxes. Crime is well under control, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Nairouvi's national animal is the Flea, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Schnürsenkel.

Nairouvi is ranked 3532nd in The North Pacific and 67,919th in the world for Largest Trout Fishing Sector.

My country apparently has no prisons as well, but its alright because apparently crone is completely unknown.

The Holy Empire of ParraLand is a huge, economically powerful nation, notable for its complete lack of prisons.
    And then further down.
Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force.
Though that is probably due to the fact that my country has three forms of punishment, they are:
    • Military service
    • Death
    • Gladiator fights in a Roman inspired Colloseum.

That's pretty much what I have, too. Eh, I'm sure I'll get them back eventually. I'm certainly going to be a whole lot less liberal about my treatment of criminals- which is odd, because I always treated them with an extremely right-wing attitude. But not quite to the point of Nazism.

The Empire of Snoopin Around is a huge, economically powerful nation, renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 646 million are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Education. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of The Strawberry Field. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 41%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Book Publishing, Gambling, and Arms Manufacturing industries.

Citizens wishing to be parents must undertake a series of gruelling tests to evaluate their capabilities, newborns are being raised as mindless killing machines, the government seizes the property of the recently deceased, and bicyclists are banned from major roads. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Snoopin Around's national animal is the Creeper, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Red Letter.

Snoopin Around is ranked 22nd in The United Kingdom and 74,439th in the world for Happiest Citizens.

The Republic of Aroubus is a huge, economically powerful nation, renowned for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 216 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded individuals devotes most of its attentions to Law & Order, with areas such as Social Equality and Social Welfare receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 4%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Uranium Mining, Information Technology, and Beef-Based Agriculture industries.

Naturists are jailed regularly for indecent exposure, mobile phone masts are being erected all over the country, citizens must pay to enjoy Aroubus's pristine beaches, and government officials frequently cut taxes as a distraction from antics with their secretaries. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is a serious problem, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. Aroubus's national animal is the Sea Slug, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Reise.

Aroubus is ranked 747th in the Pacific and 21,583rd in the world for Happiest Citizens.

EDIT: I've just made it legal to kill anyone who trespasses on private property by any means.

After a series of bloody wars between the nations of Maxtopia and North Bigtopia, fights have broken out in the streets between immigrants in New Marais who came from the warring nations.

    The Debate

4."It's not our war? It's not our war?" cries (in)famous New Marais-born fascist Lars Steele. "Well maybe it's time it became our war! New Marais should take a more active, and by 'active' I mean 'hostile', role in international politics! This ethnic squabbling will be over when the war is over, and WE can end that war and purge the impure! A Man Is Entitled to the sweat on his Brow! Sieg New Marais!"

NationStates FTW! My nation looks kind of ☺☺☺☺ed up, though. It's two halves of a large island separated by water- but there's a peninsula-thing linking the two halves at one part, and there are a couple of random islands off to the side, kind of like how Madagascar is to Africa.

Also, something weird: the other day, NationStates said that my country was one of the most subsidized in the region, and one of the most subsidized in the world. Why is that? I mean, my country is highly conservative, so why would we be dumping cash into private industry, especially with the kind of tax rate and government size of it?
