Haha...thanks, but a reset was probably the only way I was making that #1 spot. I had slowly closed the gap to under 30 points, but only a Zulu walk-in away from doubling that again. Just goes to show how poor ranked is though, think my current streak is in the seventies, but I could easily name you 10 better players- just look at the tournaments.
Anyway, not sure how long i'll hold it, it has become extremely boring after some of the great tournament games I've played.
Agree 100%. Tournaments are way more fun. Took Egypt to number 2 spot some years ago- 20 points behing a well known cheater/freezer. Got a hard freeze after that and lost 30p. Could not care less about rank anymore.
Only goal I have in Civ is to beat Maw and It's Deni3d - that works well at the moment:-)

You guys are crazy Ive noticed since most people stopped playing rank the whining around the forums has gotten greater.....ranked has many greats outlets....you can let out your agression by beating up on people....increase your confidence with wicked win streaks.....and lets be honest.....those come from behind victories where you are down 20 tecs are so much fun to pull off.....comebacks that lopsided never happen in tourney matches because we have all trained ourselves not to loose the early lead....yea you can come back on somebody who gets 7CoG or somethin and there have been some great mismatch victories lie mongols beating the zulu.....but no great comebacks in my opinion.....the skill level is too close....here we are all the type of players who dont lose with that awesome of a start.....and lets be honest...you dont beat a forum member with 7CoG without having an awesome start yourself......also I have to agree with multi in many instances about ranked......I will say that the skill level overall in ranked is way less than the forum....but I didnt become awesome by playing forum members...I became awesome by practicing my strategies in ranked.....just tweeked them against forum members once I have advanced past what ranked could teach me.....multi.....packrat.....morte.....grayson.... .headless.....I can name many players who got awesome playing ranked and them simply brought there info to the forum or tweaked there skills after coming here...

LOL all prey was doing was agreeing with Flash and saying why he liked the tourneys more than ranked and I was just concurring. I mean obviously I wouldn't mind being #1 in FFA but I would prefer winning a lot more in the tourney games over getting high ranked any day and I'm pretty sure flash would agree with that as well.

I guess I should give credit where credit is due. My overall strategy hasn't changed since I started playing in these tourneys but I have altered my play do to the way certain players play. But I have learned if I think I can go for the knock out punch earlier I will take it, but I still believe "invincibility lies in the defense, and the possibility of victory in the attack"... But overall I think me and Multi have improved considerably since we started playing in November.
I mean you couldn't be more right Deni3d. I'm to the point I feel I can be a bit unstoppable since the tourney's we played in man. Competition is the true means of perfecting yourself. It rigns true when you really learn from mistakes and revise strats of whatever needs.
Now you understand Dukes outlook on ranked....its not that there arent good players there....its that the good players are unstoppable due to the skill gap and the adaptability of the forum players....you have so many awesome strats now that you can adapt to most any situation
I've been avoiding my flash account. My connection seems really unstable at the moment and wouldn't be fair (on either side) to play a game of any importance. Had been going ok today but then another two disconnects in 10 mins. Dont know whats up?

You are right Grizz, I mean the flow of tourneys has to continue for my thoughts on them to stay the same but truthfully the most thrill from a win come from a tourney or King match.
Last I looked, I wasn't #1. Played 5 games recently and got 3 points, whereas it looks like the new number 1 has taken 50 points from a few games?

I played him once recently. He only plays America. He had the luck of getting to me with his HA before I was ready. Got fundy off of Tripoli, but took only one barb. He somehow got fundy too, even though I did not sell it to French AI. Maybe got AW and I missed the message. His HA did not get injured off hill for counter attack and then he overran my warrior when in fundy.
Would have won that game if I had managed to kill his HA. Pretty sure since I would have taken Paris and in fundy with some WAs and HAs I can do a lot of damage. Him switching to fundy took me by surprise. If I had known I I would have risked the 6 vs. 6
Can't say much about his skill. He made the right move by pestering my cap instead of taking down a barb first or going after Paris. But I have seen him around before over the last couple of years and he was not that good if I remember correctly.

Played him twice. Once as Aztecs vs. America. He got his 100 gold by 3500 & a HA to my door by 3000. I was lucky just to survive (he killed my horses so I built AA). So I had 3 cities all w/AA but he came later & smashed me with 10 cat armies. The last game was my arabs vs. his america. He started on an island & while I had 2 HA + 1 WA to deliver, I couldn't get them to the island as he used galleys to choke off. I tried building settlers around, etc... but it was too late. I quit in disgust vs. endure ignominious defeat by cats/knights.

America I probably struggle with, I've played them a few times in ranked matches and dont really get on with them, I think its maybe something to do with the whole militia spam thing that I dont do which in turn slows my expansion. I also dont micro manage well and end up paying 50g for my knights, so yes some games vs decent competition may focus the mind.

Looks like the league has collapsed, bad blood in the Asian cup, 8 man #4 has a hard freeze and now problems in #5.
