Honestly, the game's balance is very off. The only strategies I hear are ones involving focusing on production or food and then selling and buying science and culture. It kind of defeats the purpose of trying to have a balanced civ and makes the market way too overpowering. It also takes forever to increase in population so even if you don't want to overload on farming, you have to anyways.
Also, I think that instead of periodic increases in your resources it should be a constant addition and based on how many workers working, distance, etc. I've gone to work with about a +91 harvest rating and come back (during the early middle ages) and found I've only moved up about 800 in food. I know the game is supposed to take a little bit longer but it would be nice if you could increase in population a little bit easier so you could diversify and explore the game's offerings more and also understand the rate which your resources are coming in like X/hr or something.
The game has good potential but I think it is lacking a lot in balance.
